I have to say I am absolutely perplexed that the DB was closed...YET, there will be debates allowed here? The posting guidelines here will be 'strictly enforced'? Hmmm...seems to me that strictly enforcing the posts on the DB would have solved the problem.
Just one question, if the DB couldn't be controlled by locking/deleting threads, strict moderation and banning people who simply refuse to act like adults, how on earth can it be expected that moving the debates over to the CB will not result in the same problems? Is there some sort of 'super' moderation here that couldn't be performed on the DB?
Actually, it seems likely that it will cause more problems because those who enjoyed the CB 'tone' will be exposed to what they purposely avoided by not venturing over to the DB.
I never have understood why the DB was such a problem. The only real problem I saw was a lack of serious moderation. On the CB, there have been times where a troll came in and blogged the board with inappropriate threads...the mods would promptly delete those threads, problem solved. I just don't get why the same thing couldn't have happened on the DB?
Actually it used to happen there...but then the "new and improved" DB guidelines were implemented, and the DB went downhill from there. At first, there was massive thread deleting/locking, then the 'bannings' and then it seemed to be ignored entirely by moderators...and it turned into a political, free-for-all bashfest. Sort of ironic, dontcha think?
Well, I will just continue to scratch my head and wonder...
