Filene's Basement is closing! :(

What about the crazy wedding dress sale?

That is sad :( My sister and I used to love that store growing up. There was one in our local mall. Also, the "running of the brides" was fun to watch on the news every year:laughing:

It is all of Syms and Filenes Basements that will be closing sometime after the holidays. My sister and brother in law both worked there and have for decades. Even though the signs were there that there were problems, it is still a shock.

I worked in the Boston store for 5 years and the employees there were so close. It was sad when it closed but at that point it was thought the store would reopen in a few years. Now it is just a big hole in the ground.

As I recall they stopped being that great a store back in the 90's... as I recall they sort of turned into a sort of Marshalls or TJ Maxx type thing... Not sure I would really miss them at this point.

My friend who works for DSW says DSW bought them and tried to make a go of it but could not because they had spread themselves so thin. Sad to see this institution go. I went to the running of the brides once in Boston with a good friend. There were four of us pulling dresses and she found a beautiful dress. It was nuts and we still laugh about it 30 years later.

All of them?

The running of the brides...

All of them. Liquidation to start early January, at least according to today's noon news.

The last bride's have run - just recently, as a matter of fact - but not at the Original Filene's Basement. The Filene's store above it closed several years ago, and the basement reportedly temporarily, while the building was demolished and rebuilt as offices/condos.

Alas, it sits as another bankrupt hole on the ground in downtown Boston...

I love the store. It's a great store, well priced and one stop shopping. Sadly, there will be over 2,000 more people unemployed.
