Feeling Hot Hot Hot! The Rain Curse is Broken! Two Weeks of Fun in the Sun! COMPLETE

The last 2 times I've seen the Backlot Tour the volunteers were horrible at the acting! I wish I could another one like the very first time we went on it and the poeple they chose were actually funny and good at it. Ah well...

Hilarious photos! I'm sure they were giving some shock value to the guests there. :lmao::lmao:

I love that picture of yoru brothers riding the ant- the looks on their faces are classic!

This is not trip report related but I am currently in the very early planning stages for an England/Scotland trip with maybe a side trip to Paris. Have any of you been and if so what are some tips you may have on what to see/do/stay etc.?

Well I live in England, and have been avidly reading this and this was a perfect chance to post!

Some ideas of must sees.

Scotland:
Edinburgh castle. Gothic medieval history at its finest. Set on a dormant volcano and overlooking the entire city, the Castle is replete with shops, breathtaking views and historical pedigree.

England:

York in Northern England. Old-style market city with winding streets, Roman history and a fantastic Minster (type of LARGE church just as big and grand as a Cathedral) and markets. Underneath the Minster is a great museum with all the history of the city as you study the foundations of Roman York (Eburacum.)

Whitby, along the North East Coast of England. Quaint, cosy fishing village with plenty to see and do, even if the weather can get a little rough. Viking history and a great ruined abbey, along with a little vampire heritage (the setting for Bram Stoker's Dracula!) You can even get a steam train from Whitby station into the Yorkshire moors (wooded grasslands and valleys - terrific walks here!)

Alnwick Castle in NE england - The most awe-inspiring and beautiful castle in England - better even than the Tower in London. Marble stairs in the central tower and huge walls make this a must do.

London - Plenty of shows and plays to see at the theaters (Drury Lane etc) and shops to visit (not the cheapest.) You can see the Tower of London, with all it's history, or visit Buckingham palace and take a photo there. National museums and monuments aplenty.

Just a few things to do! History and culture can be found almost everywhere, but the ones I have listed are pretty durn good.

/End of tourism advert.

Hope you enjoyed! I am enjoying your report!

Anybody is allowed into the playground, no requirement to have children with you so long as you are not disruptive. :thumbsup2

The pole dancing all traces back to Diser EnglishRose who posts on this thread. She started the pole dancing trend with one of her trip reports and since she and Mom are such good friends Mom was all about getting the family to pose for some pole dancing photos in tribute to her. Don't worry, I don't think we caused any parental distress among the guests, the time stamps on the photos show that the whole thing was completed in less than two minutes.

Thanks Lessa for confirming with all that I am completely insane !! But actually it is all Winkers fault she started me on the Pole Dancing :lmao::lmao:However the Lap Dancing is all me !!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

My Home Town Bury St Edmunds, The Ruins of a once large Abbay where the Nobles of the Realm met and swore an oath to make King John sign the Magna Carta. Also the Angel Inn where Mr Pickworth stayed in the Pickworth Papers. The museum hosts many exhibits from the Barrow Dig ,twice a week is an open air market.

Cambridge the University Town only 20 + miles from Bury

Sorry not anything for Scotland.

Looks like a great day at DHS!! Thanks for the smiles and laughs! It's just what I needed this morning!

Backlot is so much better when there are good volunteers. I guess most don't know what they are volunteering for when they go in there but I don't understand why you would volunteer for a show unless you are going to go out there and be crazy/funny!

No problem Rosie, just making sure everybody knows you are the resident nut. ;) :rotfl:

Thanks so much for all the suggestions! I've noted them and will do some research into them. :goodvibes

Thanks Rosie! Hmmm, we may have to visit your hometown and find a pole for a photo op. :rolleyes1

We went to England a few years ago. We did all the typical touristy stuff in London- Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Madame Tussuad's, St. Paul's Cathedral (we attended Evensong, very cool), Tate Britain, Tate Modern, and the British Museum.

We also went to Warwick Castle, saw Les Miserables and the Lion King, visited Stratford upon Avon, saw the Tempest and A Midsummer Night's Dream. We found a real Rose and Crown Pub, so of course, we had to stop there. :rotfl:

We did some shopping at Notting Hill and visited the travel book store that Hugh Grant owns in the movie. We spent a few days in Manchester, too. Driving on the other side of the road is an adventure.

We had the best time in England. I hope you have as much fun as we did.

Sounds like an amazing trip! This is definitely much different than planning an Orlando vacation! It is hard to narrow down where I want to go!

May 12th continued

Last I left you Alek and Erich were just finishing up their pole dancing exercise routine. Luckily we were not kicked out of the park for their little display, in fact, I don’t think anybody really even noticed as it was all done so quickly.

We moved on down the street towards Beauty and the Beast but we were stopped by these funny fellows. They were practicing for their dates that night at the carnival. What slackers, goofing around like that on the job, what a disgrace! :snooty:;)

We did not stay and watch the whole show as it was very hot outside and 2pm was quickly approaching. It felt like I was melting with the sun beating down on us with no mercy, it was great!

By the time we arrived at the theatre all the good seats in the front half of the theatre were taken so we settled for seats about midway back on the right side. We were fine with that as we had seen the show many times already so no need to be front and center.

Erich decided that he was going to go off in search of ice cream before the show started and he got back just in time!

We were all mourning the departure of Four for a Dollar who used to perform the pre-show, they were great and were missed.

The show was good as usual except for Belle, she was awful! Maybe she was an understudy, maybe she was new, maybe she was sick, I don’t know, but her performance was not good. Her singing was weak and wobbly and she seemed very unsure. I felt bad for her, Alek and Erich snickered throughout her first performance.

I am going to break from tradition and will only post a FEW of my photos from the show. Most of them I picked for their humour. If you would like to see the rest just let me know and I will post them.

You will remember from the last post that our plan after Beauty and the Beast was to see The Little Mermaid and to go to the Animation Academy. Well here’s where the plan changed.

It was nearing 3pm so I decided that I better go get the cupcake I wanted from Starring Rolls before they closed. I wasn’t really hungry so I figured I would just get it to go, we would be in the air conditioning for the most part so no danger in it melting. The others went to grab slushies while I got in line for my cupcake. The line was not long but the person who was being served was ordering about 8 meals so it took forever for the line to move. I eyed my quarry, which cupcake should I get? There were so many choices! Butterfinger, Red Velvet Cheescake, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and many more! Once I got to the counter I knew that I had to follow my heart and get the Chocolate Peanut Butter cupcake. I LOVE Chocolate and Peanut Butter, a divine combination! Cupcake in hand I went over to the cash register to pay and to get it boxed up. The lady at the cash was not very friendly. When I asked for a to-go container she gave me a dirty look and held up a very small box obviously meant to hold a sandwich and not a towering cupcake. I was disappointed and knew that just meant I would have to eat it right away!

Mom and the brothers were outside at a table so I took the cupcake over and then went in search of some cutlery as it would have been nearly impossible to eat without a fork.

It is a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter filling/frosting in the center and on top with chocolate flakes on top of the frosting.

It was pretty good, very rich, I think it would have been better if it had not still been cold from the display case. I had to eat it then and there though otherwise it would have been a melted mess.

If you do get to see it hopefully you will get a better Belle than we did.

Yeaaaa! You scored a cupcake!! That thing looks so YUMMY! I had no idea that Starring Rolls even had cupcakes up until recently. I'm definitely adding that to my must-do list for our next visit to HS!!

Sorry to hear that Belle didn't do such a great job. Even the pictures make her look a little unsure of her role! Let's just hope she was new!

Keep the updates comin'!:thumbsup2

Yep, they have tons of cupcakes and other yummy looking baked goods. :thumbsup2

Poor Belle, it must be awful to have a bad performance in front of a crowd of people snickering at her. Hopefully she got better as time went on. I love that show and it would stink to have a bad Belle.

I was underwhelmed by that cupcake last year. I meant to try the butterfinger one this year, but never did. I have found that most of the time the cupcakes look much better than they taste, however I still have high hopes for the butterfinger one.

We never stop for any of the performers in the streets. Am I missing anything good?

And don't forget the world famous Rosie Birthplace home that should be on everyone's must do list!!! They say her crib had poles instead of side slats... :rolleyes1

No problem Rosie, just making sure everybody knows you are the resident nut. ;) :rotfl:
Rosie is Dr. Nut! She passed Residency long, long ago! :rotfl2:
I am soo misunderstood:rolleyes1;):lmao:
Only by those who believe you when you say you are sweet and innocent!!! :sad2:
