Feedback on Doubletree, Grosvenor and Hotel Royal Plaza wanted

Hi,

I tried doing a search but I got an error message indicating that the search was disabled. So here goes.

Friends of ours, 2adults and three children(13, 11 & 6 at the time of the trip) are thinking of coming to Disney "with us" next Sept. Sept 2003. Because they are a family of 5 they have limited options unless they can swing for a deluxe. I looked into these three resorts and they appear to have more room for less money then if they were to book one room at a deluxe like the YC.

Has anyone stayed at any of these resorts? Would you go with a standard view room at the YC with a family of five or go with one of these resorts? Doubletree Guest Suites seems like a good deal. Looking for all opinions the good, bad and the ugly.

I haven't stayed at the Doubletree in Disney, but I have stayed at the Manhattan one, and if these are anything alike, they are AMAZING. I checked out the Doubletree site, and according to that, the rooms are basically the same.

This is from my Manhattan experience, so you may want to actually call the hotel and verify this, but according to their website, this all holds true at the WDW location. Each "room" is actually a suite with a seperate living area and bedroom (there was a lockable door seperating the living and bedroom areas in NYC, but the photos for DW look like they don't). The bedroom comes with either a king or two double beds, and a TV. The couch in the living room had a hideaway bed, but the WDW one says that there are rollaways. There is a fridge, microwave, wet bar, coffee maker, and free coffee/tea. The rooms were HUGE. There would be PLENTY of space for 5 people.

Oh yeah...everybody gets a free welcome chocolate chip cookie, and the cookies are SO good!

Avoid the Grosvenor. I stayed there a couple years ago, and it was worn down and in terrible need of a rehab.

I stayed there after bidding 35$ for the night on Priceline. It was a shoulder night so I thought, It could not be that bad....
It was.

The whole hotel is very worn out. Our room was stinky and humid and did not have one normal light bulb in the place. Everything was lit that shock white florecent. bleh...I can not tell you how happy we were to check into our Disney hotel room after that stay!

The only saving grace was that we could walk to all of the excellent restaurants in Downtown Disney and the bus hub.

Thanks SnackyStacky. I am going to go over options with them in more detail tomorrow. It looks like it will come down to either all 5 of them in one room at the YC or Checking out the Doubletree Suites.

I think all 3 of these have reviews at www.biddingfortravel.com. I wrote one for the Grosvenor. I also got the room for $35 thru priceline and was quite satisfied. I liked it so much I've booked a return this month with a $55 entertainment card rate.

When I was planning this trip I found a $125 AAA rate at the Doubletree. It looked really nice. More people were going and I wanted more room. Since then the # of people have decreased so I opted for the Grosvenor.
