I'm really peed off. When we booked the holiday we were supposed to go on last month we booked it with Virgin. We had one week in one of their hotels and 2 weeks flydrive. Our travel insurance was also booked with Virgin. We were flying on the 3/9/04 and on the evening of the 2nd the holiday was cancelled by them due to Hurricane Francess. All Floridian airports had been closed so no planes could fly in (or out).

We rang Virgin who said we would get the full amount paid to Virgin back to us. We then rang the underwriter for virgin travel insurance (for the villa we had booked privately in the 2 weeks flydrive) who told us the claim would not be a problem and they would send us a claim form out to us. We recieved the form 3 weeks later after asking for 2 more:mad: On wednesday we just got back from visiting my nan who is very ill. We were opening the mail and got a letter back from the insurance company saying that the reason for our holiday being cancelled is not covered.

I can not believe Virgin sell this travel insurance to there customers travelling to Florida a well known HURRICANE STATE and then say they won't cover us.

Were are now trying to get our money back as it is a large amount. We have wrote the insurance company a letter and also Virgin to see what they can do.

Were so angry and dissapointed in the company. Straight after we got back from our two weeks in Menorca we booked again with virgin for next june (not insurance though!!!) and we really wished we hadn't of bothered. If we had known we would get this kind of treatment from such a big named company like virgin i wouldn't of.

I'm sorry for going on but i am really angry.

Do you think i will get any joy if i rang the citizens advice?

Thanks for listening:wave:

Michelle

Haven't really got any advice but I hope you get somewhere with this

sorry to hear your having problems with them but i think you'll probably find that its the same with most travel companies. they consider it "force ma jur"(sp) or in english an act of god. i was reading over the contract TCD sent me recently and it actually has an "act of god" clause covering natural disasters, terrorist attacks, etc.

most travel companies will give you something back in those cases but they arent required to do so if they have that clause in their contract with you.

we had to change our 2nd centre part of our virgin trip and its cost£1000 more ( for 6 of us) virgin didnt give us any compensation AND wouldnt even honor a special deal that they had with that resort via a different brochure !!

good luck with your claim i hope you get somewhere

Up until a few months ago would only have flown VA but had few probs with them myself just lately booked a fly-drive with them and don`t need the car.
Explained all this to guy over the phone said this was`nt a problem, when we recieved our bill thay had slapped £150:00 on top for Independant traveller  after three phone calls to operators who had no idea what the charge was for got it cancelled, but still no-one knows what it was for.
Maybe you could speak to Customer relations if you hav`nt already.
Hope it all works out for you

Oh Michelle, that's awful!

I hope you get it sorted out. I always think it can never hurt to try CAB.

Good luck and best wishes,

Karen
