Fed Ex says it delivered my package, but they didn't

I ordered a purse from LL Bean for my b'day present from my parents. It was on backorder until Monday. It was shipped Fed Ex to be delivered to my work address because nobody would be home during the day. It was suppose to arrive yesterday, but didn't. I tracked it this morning and it says it was delivered and left at the front door at 6:35 PM. Well, my office closes at 5:00 PM and my boss left work at 7:00 PM and said he didn't see a package on the steps when he left last night. Fed Ex is supposedly asking the driver what he/she did with my package. If they cannot find my package even though they said they delivered it, what do I do? Anybody else have this problem? I'm very upset because I really wanted my new purse while I'm Christmas shopping (very back friendly). TIA!

One time I ordered a cell phone and had it shipped to work.

The package was signed for but I didn't get it. There were 30 other packages that came in and the shipping/receiving guy doesn't remember seeing anything for me. FedEx and the cell phone company wouldn't do anything about it since they said it was signed for.

So I had to shell out $90 for a new phone, although my company did reimburse me.

Did you sign a waiver that they could leave it without a signature? Or did LL Bean?

LL Bean said it could be delivered without a signature. If have to buy another purse, I'm REALLY going to be mad.

UPS delivered a package destined for my mother, to an apartment complex in another town. They tracked it down after a couple of days and delivered it to the right place.

Hope you find your purse!

PS FedEx delivered a 9 foor toboggan to me at work this morning. That would be hard to lose. I wonder how I am going to get this thing home.

If LL Bean authorized delivery without confirmation, LL Bean is responsible for the consequences thereof. If a new purse is necessary, LL Bean should cover that.

If FedEx can't find the package, they will be responsible for re-embursing. I bet it shows up the next day though.....

LL Bean has excellent customer service. I would call them and tell them the situation. I had a similar situation a few summers ago, and LL Bean sent out a replacement order, no charge.

I am going to go in a different direction here than everybody else... LL Bean shipped the package, got the tracking number, etc.. They did everything right. I am thinking that most of these companies that send personal items request a signature for high dollar items, over a certain specified amount. ( DID YOU REQUEST THAT THIS BE SIGNED FOR????)

Who is wrong... FED EX!!!! It should be completely against FED EX policy to leave a package sitting out in the open in front of a business or public place! ESPECIALLY after hours!!!! What if this were an important business package. It should be completely against policy to leave any package with a business address just laying in front of the business, at night, well after business hours!

I would demand that FedEX track this package... If they are 'unable' to track this package... If it is 'missing' because their employee just left it sitting.... Then THEY should reimburse you for a new item. Once it left LL Bean, it is FedEX responsibility.

I would go way high up the ladder at FedEX.

Good Luck!!!!!

Thanks everyone for your help. I contacted LL Bean and they are tracking the package. The LL Bean customer service rep told me that if I do not receive my package in two days, they will ship me another one at no charge. I am assuming that they will collect from Fed Ex. LL Bean has great customer service.

I did not request that it be signed for because it was not up to me, but up to LL Bean. They are the ones that did not request it be signed for. Whenever I ship Fed Ex, I always request that it be signed for. I like to find out who signed for it. It has saved my hide several times.

yes, this happened to me with a phone that cost me 500 bucks. LLBean will track it, and fedex will look from there end. If LLBean (who has excellent customer service, sends you a new one) the 2 companies, will come to a determination and fedex in turn will pay LLBEAN for the cost of the replacement.

nothing will come out of your pocket!

I work for a company that ships stuff to customers (we're a travel agency and still ship the occasional paper ticket). We refuse to send items "signature release" (meaning no one has to sign and FedEx can leave it at the door) just for this reason. FedEx generally does a good job, but you never know! Plus some jerk may come along and steal it, or it could get damaged by rain.

Happy news! I just received my purse!!! The Fed Ex guy said he didn't leave it last night because he didn't want it to get stolen. He said he already scanned it and said it was delivered when he came to the office last night, but changed his mind. He just didn't change it in the computer. I told him that I appreciated him not leaving it, but he should've changed the status in the computer. So, all is well. Thanks everyone for your help and support. I know this was something petty.

I was going to tell you to wait until the next day because the same thing happened to me. The site said it was left at the door, but it certainly wasn't. It arrived the next day. Glad you got your purse! ;)
