Disneyland Paris - News

I was waiting for the announcements for Disneyland Paris from D23 and there here!

Lion King ride AND area
It was an ongoing rumor for a long time. A Lion King water ride coming to Disneyland Paris and it is true! Looking at the concept art, it looks similar to Splash Mountain/ Tiana's Bayou adventure.

But not just that, we will get a Lion King area with dining, shops and characters to meet. Originally the 3 new lands in Disneyland Paris were going to be Avengers, Frozen and Star Wars. However, rumor has it that because Star Wars land wasn't as popular in the US as Disney has hoped, we got something else. Really happy we are getting something more original, even when the ride is a copy of Splash Mountain 😉

Star wars hasn't been popular? What would more popular look like? Galaxies Edge is usually swarning with people, and crazy lines to get on RotR or smuggler's run.

I know it is doing well now, but if I remember correctly. Opening without RotR was not their best decision and they hyped it up so much, everyone was expecting massive crowds but opposite happened, that first summer was not as busy as they expected or hoped. Then there was covid.

And decisions on which land goes where probably happen years in advance. The go/no-go for Star Wars Land in Paris was probably around 2020-2021. Because if they want to do something else, they need to do a lot of designing & planning, which takes time.

So that is why I wrote "not as well as they hoped", not saying it isn't popular.

I was there, it was GLORIOUS! They had planned for an invasion of people, so they scheduled extra extra magic hours, Studios and Magic Kindom opened at 6am and 7am! And basically no one came. Every park was so empty, "thanks" also to the threat or hurricane Ian which ended to cause a lot of wind one night.
I was able to do every attraction at the Studios and then move to Epcot for the rope drop. All attractions in two parks in one morning.
It was blissful for me but a disaster for Disney. Then the following February, when crowds started to pick up, Covid arrived.

It was killed in the fall of 2019. We were in Paris for IAAPA Europe (my husband for work, me as a guest) and my husband was at the Disney presentation. They were supposed to come out with details about Star Wars. And then there was nothing. Instead it was a very strange thrown together presentation. Obviously done very short notice and not a word about Star Wars anymore. Everyone attending had the same conclusion: it was a very recent decision to not do Star Wars land.

Interesting! At the very least they were already in the process of cancelling. Love to go to the IAAPA once.

The Disney Jr. show Dream Factory in the Studios is going to close permanently on 31 August 2024. 😞

A bit sad about this one going. I am not the target audience, but it always made me incredibly happy.

Loved how they were able to do this show during covid with masks on, because they are in a factory, it fits!

Let's hope something equally awesome will come in its place.

Ok some updates:
  • Peter Pan will be updated with the new native American scene Magic Kingdom got earlier this month. Most likely this will happen during the refurbishment in September.
  • There will be 2 pop up shows during the Christmas season, one in Castle Courtyard with Aurora and Prince Phillip and one at the Main Street gazebo. Most likely these will pop up unscheduled.
  • A new scene will be added to the Electrical Sky Parade during the Halloween and the Christmas season.
  • In 1 October and 31 December there will be no Electrical Sky Parade.
  • And Mother Gothel will have a selfie spot during Halloween.

Princess week has started at Disneyland Paris.

- Princess Minnie is opening the park
- Belle and Merida will be meeting next to the old Mill and in Frontierland, Tiana has been seen walking around (on her way to Frontierland, probably, she had a meeting spot near the River boat for a long time). Mulan has been spotted in Adventureland between Colonel Hathis and Indiana Jones (line got long this day). Rapunzel is meeting in Fantasyland.
Belle is reading her story, and only little kids can sit close. Parents have to stay behind the line. It is in English and in French.
These princesses are not on the schedule.
- There are princessy snacks at several restaurants, Victorias, Bakery and the Deli on Main Street.
- There is a show once a day at 16.30 at the hub Live Your Story with Aurora, Ariel, Jasmine and Tiana (no more modern princesses).
Edited: I just saw a live stream on Tiktok, a bit disappointed. The hub is huge and 4 princesses and some dancers are not enough to cover it and keep it exciting. It is a shame castle stage is under refurbishment for this Princess Week.

This morning everyone seemed to run to the Princess pavillion. On social media I even saw 360 minutes, but an hour later things had calmed down to 2 hours. Probably to discourage guests. And at 13.30 it was down to 100 minutes

i wonder where they would keep a 6 hour line, that would basically be all of Fantasyland 😂

Apparently closing this show ruffled some feathers. Disney has now followed up with the news that the Dream Factory will return! And that in November there will be a fun and interactive musical moment with Minnie.

Pays des contes de fées is reopening tomorrow. Yesterday there were CM previews for the new scenes, and they released a video. The ride looks really freshed up and beautiful again (also, sponsored by Vittel now).

One of my favorite rides there. So happy they finally took care of it. Not 100% convinced that the Up scene is an improvement… Frozen looks very nice. And I have hated Peter and the Wolf as a story since childhood, so not upset about it disappearing! 🤣

Oh I absolutely loved Peter and the Wolf, one of my favourite animations! I never cared for the Wizard of Oz. I did see a castmember preview doing a full ride video and the music in the Frozen section is still the same by the sound of it. Maybe they still have to fix that.

Definitely one of my favourite rides, it almost always has a short line and it's just a nice way to relax and unwind, while still doing a ride.

Deadpool becoming permanent in Disneyland Paris?

I just got a survey from Disneyland Paris about meeting characters. It was a long list of all kinds of characters and how important they are for me to meet them.

One character to stood out was Deadpool. He first appeared in the list of Marvel characters and how important he was. And later there were additional questions, if I knew him (even if it was just by name) and how familiar I was with him.

I had said initially that he was not important for me to meet. I also answered this for other characters (mainly Marvel or Star Wars). So that wasn't a reason why they singled out Deadpool.

So my guess... Disneyland Paris is trying to measure how necessary it is to have Deadpool as a permanent character in the parks.

I got the survey, too. I replied that I am not interested in meeting characters and then it went directly to asking questions about Deadpool. Most interesting question: did I think he was a character that was appropriate for DLP.
