February 28, 2009 Bushwacker Banditos Magical Cruise

Hey Brenda,

Since Ron (a.k.a. "The Leather Biker in the Village People) is somewhat computer-challenged, please pass on that I watched the Nebraska/Clemson bowl game and was rooting for the Huskers the whole time!

And about the bathing suit discussion -- I am still trying to find my red, sequined speedo, but I think that Johnna must have hidden it after I wore it last summer...

Mark

This is Ron here. Mark, that was a good win for us. My heart can't take many more games like that. Congrats on the terps win also.

Did you see the Village people performing YMCA at halftime of one of the bowls? I forget which bowl it was but that "Construction Worker" sure reminded me of someone I know from the DC area with the initials MS. I think you would be fine in the speedo, but only if you wear your hardhat with it. :rotfl:

I am anxiously awaiting the end of February. This will be our 4th cruise but I'm still as excited as I was the first time. Can't wait to meet everyone and share a Bushwhacker(or two).

Hi Everyone...

We saw the referral to this thread over at the Cruise Critic boards.

We are Dave and Michael from Braunfels, Germany; I am American, Michael is German. We just booked back to back cruises on the Magic and this sailing will be our second week. Although we have sailed on over a hundred cruises between the two of us, this will be our first Disney cruise and we are curious about some things.

First... what is a bushwhacker? I'm praying something cold and alcoholic.

Second... is there any advice that past Disney cruisers could impart? Any special events/activities we should plan for? Things to bring? Have you all organized a meet and mingle? Does anyone know Disney's alcohol policy about bringing a bottle of champagne on board for the cabin?

Lastly... is there anyone on this sailing who will also be on the week prior? I haven't found a board for it yet.

Well, the temp is headed to 20 below O°C and they are predicting 15 centimeters of snow... we can't WAIT for the sun!

Nice to meet you all..

Dave

That's the problem with women... they are always stealing your favorite set of clothes! No worries... I have an extra you can borrow.

Dave & Michael, So glad you are joining us on this cruise! :welcome: And B2B cruises...That is AWESOME!

Bushwackers? Your prayers are answered...its cold and alcoholic! I've never had one myself but they come highly recommended by several cruisers on this thread. I found a recipe and posted it somewhere on the 69+ pages of this thread. The best I can tell is it takes like a chocolate milkshake with a kick???????

As for as a meet, I don't think we have ever scheduled one. I had forgotten about that because I feel like I already know several of our fellow cruisers since we have been talking for so long. :grouphug: We really need to set up a meet or two though. On our last cruise, we had a meet at the sailaway party but it was really chaotic. Although it was nice because it was at the beginning of the cruise. Any suggestions, anyone??????

Yes, Disney will let you bring alcoholic beverages aboard. I think you have to carry them on though and not put them in your checked bags. Many people use a rolling cooler. We plan to bring some!!!!

As far as activities, we have enjoyed the beer and cocktail tastings, pirate's night, the Disney shows, the comedians/jugglers, and the farewell skit in Diversions to name a few. Of course, this time I am anxiously awaiting the 80s party in Rockin' Bar D and the Village People......and Gloria Gaynor......

a meet would be good, if anyone wants to do one. If not, just look for me at night in Rockin' Bar D or Diversions at night and you'll see me. I'll be wearing a Nets hat and Nets jersey or Nets hat and Giants jersey so you will see me. I always have something Nets or Giants on:goodvibes :lmao:

but anyway as my b2b cruises get closer it's harder to get up and go to work because I am so excited, hahaha. But soon enough we will all be here

Another vote for someone who does not care if there is a meet. Honestly if there was on I would probably not even show. I really do not want to take time out of WDW time to do one before the cruise. I already have planed my embarkation day, and it inculdes lunch, then get ready for the drill, then hot tub with a bucket of beer, then dinner, then Diversions, then Rockin Bar D then sleep. So I hope to just run into some of you at one of the venues

you'll prob run into me at either Diversions or Rockin' Bar D to places I am at night, I usually go back and forth.

Well... for anyone who DOES want to meet, I'm happy to organize one on Embarkation day. I know I'm looking forward to one! Personally, I can't wait to meet you all. It's really awesome to put a face to a name, and especially if you're not travelling with other family, friends, or others you know, it's really nice to later on run into people who you know at meals, shows, bars, near the pool, etc.

We did one two years ago, and it worked out really well. We met in the Promenade Lounge - on Deck 3 near Parrot Cay restaurant. It's great because there is a bar there, and it's open enough so the kids can run around a little bit, or sit down and do stuff - maybe we can have some activities like hidden mickey games and/or coloring pages... any volunteers???

If I remember correctly, we did it around 3:00 - which gave us plenty of time for lunch, settle in to the room for a bit, and then grab a drink at the meet, and then head to the lifeboat drill, and the farewell party afterwards. I'll have to double check the timing, but if this sounds good to everyone, I'll put it together and make sure everyone knows the details via email and on our list.

Hope everyone's having a great Sunday. Johnna

I'm down for a meet, cruise in 2006 there was a meet and I totally forgot, ended up meeting people thought later in the cruise. In July when I went this summer the group had a meet, not a big one just like a 5 minute one behind topsiders but that was a great way to put faces to names and it was fun running into people later on the ship or on land passing by

WELCOME ABOARD! Glad you'll be joining us. I'll send you a PM (private message) requesting some info for our list that we're sharing with each other. If you need a PM tutorial, let me know.

As for a bushwhacker, I'm not exactly sure, but Brenda (ejkjmom) and Tink (atinkerbellmom) assure us all that they are not to be missed. I'm sure they will occupy many listings on my bill. :drinking1 :drinking1

Second... is there any advice that past Disney cruisers could impart? Any special events/activities we should plan for?

As for special activities, Pirate Night is a lot of fun. It's always one of our favorites. Some people get dressed up as Pirates (the Johnny Depp look is quite popular!!) but some just enjoy the atmosphere. We generally accessorize as pirates (hat, bandana, eye patch, etc.) but don't usually do the full out costumes. pirate: We also enjoy 80's night, and 70's night. A few of us got recruited last time to participate as some musical personalities... we may try to avoid that this trip...seeing yourself on youtube is not terribly flattering...:scared1:

Things to bring? Have you all organized a meet and mingle? Does anyone know Disney's alcohol policy about bringing a bottle of champagne on board for the cabin?

I just posted about a potential meet on sail-away day. Hope you can be there! As for alcohol, you are allowed to bring it on board. :drinking1 :drinking1 A lot of people (including us!) bring a soft-sided cooler with some alcohol and bottled water too. You just can't bring ice in the cooler through security - you have to wait to get on board to ask your room steward for ice.

Lastly... is there anyone on this sailing who will also be on the week prior? I haven't found a board for it yet.

I'm sure there is meet thread for the week prior - it should be listed here somewhere: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1674660

But clearly those people won't be nearly as cool :cool1: or as much fun :dance3: as we are! :woohoo: :rotfl:  :rotfl2:

Looking forward to getting to know you better! Johnna :thumbsup2

That's the problem with women... they are always stealing your favorite set of clothes! No worries... I have an extra you can borrow.

My final thought of the day... the only thing worse than my husband in a red sequined speedo, is ME in a red sequined speedo. :scared: :scared: :scared:

Okay, Can I say I am just catching up on the thread.... Maybe I should have been here a little more the past few days.... First off Dave & Michael, I think it was me that you ran into over on the CC Board. Thanks for joining us... :welcome: I have to pop back over there and see if we are referncing the same thread. My screen name is the same both places.

Now for the MEET...... I thought this was the purpose of this thread..... To meet fellow cruisers so that you can have a friendship form "or not" prior to the cruise. I would not waste my time sitting making post here if I did not want to meet the people. Now I have to say, not everyone will click with everyone, but still be kind and just say hi. ;) Just seems to be a waste of time to sit and type when you do not care of the people you are typing to. :confused3 Last year since the Tink family is always late, the meet ended up being at our lunch table..... :lmao:

Since I have not loss any weight from last year, :sad2: I will wear my bathing suit from last year.... I am off to take them to the movies so I will comment later..... Just had to add my 2 cents. I will catch you guys later....:upsidedow
