February 2012 Car Rentals

I think I've decided that if my rate doesn't go down, then the week before we leave I'm going to start bidding on Priceline. Worth a shot, right?

But still crossing my fingers the price will go down more. I really want to use Alamo but it's not a deal breaker if we get another company.

My thoughts exactly. There is no way I'm paying $55 + a day plus tax! But, I'm guessing priceline won't be necessary. I only need a 4 day weekend rental and they usually run $20/per weekend day deals about 3 weeks out from the travel date.

I've been looking at National for a few weeks off and on, running through all the typical coupons and codes, for a rental between the 10th and 16th. Checked airport, Dolphin, and CCC.

Just this evening I noticed that the airline discount codes have started to knock off different amounts from the total; before, they were all exactly the same discount.

The total started at nearly $260 for a midsize, and I had it down to $202 (with Continental's airline code and the $35 off coupon on mousesavers), before I realized I could get a midsize SUV (going from CCC so I won't have emerald aisle) for about $220 using that same code and coupon, and went with that. This is picking up at CC and dropping at MCO, by the way. (noticed that in MY case, picking up at the airport is quite a bit MORE than picking up at CCC!)

Before, the prices weren't budging down under $260, but today they started to!

Do you have to be flying on Continental to use that code?

Another dumb question, which is probably answered everywhere but I can't find it for some reason - where, exactly, is the CCC? How would one get there?

Nope. You just have to be a member of that FF plan. We make sure to have the relevant frequent flyer number info with us, in case they ask. Easy enough to sign up for whatever airline FF program! We've used the Alaska code and the United code on our last two trips, and while we had the info with us, they haven't yet asked us. (but again, it's easy to become a member of the FF program, and we have the number with us)

I have noticed some movement on prices at Alamo.
My dates 2/11-2/21 full size rental is $266 using codes and coupon from BJs.

Standard and Fullsize cars were the cheapest options for my dates. The rest are $500 and up.

I just came to post that I found it cheaper to rent from National at the Dolphin then it was at MCO. (a difference of $300 from $1000 to $700 for the week) and using Magical Express to get from and back to the airport. However, when I saw the Budget codes on page 1, I couldn't believe the difference. $359 for a minivan for 8 days(2/16 - 2/23). What an amazing savings. I thought $700 was good considering the week, but $359? Woo Hoo. Thank you so much!

Just checked again this morning on this...fullsize now up to $653 using BJs codes and coupon. What a difference a day makes!

what car comp was the cont. code for?? need. to upgrade to an sub...

Last year we went Feb 1-10 and got a great price from National of $127 for an emerald aisle vehicle. We ended up with a very nice Town and Country that seated 8 .

I was going to go with Alamo for $138 booked Jan 18 but got this great deal from National on Jan 28. So I am hoping they will go down further.

We are only going 7 days at the same time of year and right now I have an Alamo reservation for $155. Last year Alamo was cheaper right until the end. Given the choice I prefer National since you can go out choose your own car with no stopping at the counter or kiosk.

Did you book another van? Did you use any codes?

I'm looking for a van (preferrably through Alamo or National) and can't find one under $600. I booked a Budget van for $302 but am hoping to find a deal like yours!

Prices at all the major agencies jumped at MCO yesterday/today. I am looking at $250/week when I rent from CCC, compared to $460/week when I rent from MCO. Will they come back down?

Thanks!

Do I have to use the shuttle bus or is it within a walk-able distance from anywhere?

What the heck is going on with car rental prices??

I already have some booked lowest is $230 for a standard but was really hoping for less. Dates are 2/4 - 2/11

They are sky high right now. I thought they dropped 3 weeks before

Just a couple of corrections. Town and Country Mini vans only seat 7, Three in the way back, two in the center and two in the front. Toyota Siennas seat 8.
You can only go to the garage directly to the National garage if you are an Emerald Club Member, otherwise you need to use the kiosk, online check in or counter.
Hint: for speedier service at the National check out, if you are an EC member, please have your reservation number with you. A print out with the bar code is even better.

With an Alamo rental, you can check in online and walk to the garage and select your vehicle also. You can also join the Insiders program and have all your information on file to make it really easy.
I hope your rates go down also.

Not always, depends on supply and demand. And, people keeping multiple reservations at different locations causes the numbers to be skewed which trickles down to renters.

It was useful for both midsize car and midsize SUV, as far as I checked (I didn't check other kinds of cars). But be sure you've run through all the airline contract IDs (they are all on the mousesavers National page) to make sure you've got the one that works the best for your exact situation!

When I first started looking for this trip, the airline codes made it cost MORE than with just the Emerald Club code that's auto-filled in my account. :rotfl:

You are probably correct about the town and country we were only 5 but had LOTS of extra space. We are Emerald Card members so we did go straight out to the garage. Since you can get a free membership on mousesavers I tend to think most people are EC members.

I did not know you can check in online with Alamo and go straight to the garage, I love that.

Last time and this time I booked a mid-size, with EC you can choose whatever is on the emerald aisle so it can be a gable but when we picked up we had our choice of vans ans SUV's as well smaller cars.

The Alamo code I am using currently is for $25 off coupon AD2723SAM contract id 7015135, I am an Insider Member.
