February 19, 2011 Magic Western - Presidents of the Caribbean!

:banana:Bring it on---- we leave in a couple of weeks--- if I can get out of my driveway!!!!!!!!!

Unbelievable about the amount of snow you guys are dealing with...I would probably go crazy!!!

I went by Target and picked up some of the travel sized items that were discussed earlier in the posts. They seem to have a pretty good variety.

For those of you still making magnets, I was in the store Michael's the other day and they had magnetic paper clearanced down. Normally $15.99 marked down to $5.99. I tried it out, and it works, but it not as clear as photo paper. They also had clearanced Hannah Montana, High School Musical (and the like) packs of 3 magnets marked down to $0.29. I cut those up and glued them to the back of the photo paper, and it turned out good.

I contacted my pediatrician today as well for recommendations for sea sickness, so if I hear anything different, I will let you guys know.

I have planned on going to Boatswain at Grand Cayman, but am just not sure about it. I really want to be able to visit the beach as well. If anyone has done this excursion, could you offer some advice? Doing the dolphin encounter in Cozumel, and winging it in Key West and Castaway Cay.

I've finally made plans for our excursions... what a relief!

Key West we'll just wing - we're the only ship in port that day according to a website I found so it shouldn't be hard to get tickets to the on/off trolley. I almost bought them on line but decided that since we're driving through the night to get to the ship I may be too tired - so we'll play that day by ear.

Grand Cayman we're doing a Disney Excursion - the Island Tour and Stingray City snorkle... I was going to do that one on my own but got lazy :rotfl:

Cozumel - I just made reservations at Nachi Cocum - I read about it here on the Dis and while it doesn't sound like as much fun as Paradise Beach for my DS who is 11 - there are supposed to be 4 or 5 other ships in port that day and I wanted to be someplace that wasn't packed with people.

Now .... I wait!

We are also booked at Nachi Cocum for the same reason - with that many boats it will be crowded and we thought this looked a little quieter. Our kids (DD 8 and DS 5) will be happy with any beach. We are staying on the boat for Grand Cayman and with respect to Key West, we will wander around rather than book a formal tour.

My heart goes out to those of you in the US Northeast with the snow. We are further North but every storm this year seems to be coming as rain or missing us completely. At this point as I look out the window it is light rain/mist with some snow formed along the edge of parking lots but otherwise bare roads and only a light dusting on the grass. I know we will get no sympathy but this is 2 winters in a row with little to no snow and warmer temperatures. It is high 30s here today which is unusual for us the end of January. My father has been living in Manhatten the last couple of years and gotten way more snow than us.

We leave 2 weeks from today for a 9 day Disney holiday before the cruise. Our documents have arrived and we are all ready to go. Not that we are getting excited or anything....

I'll see you at Nachi!

This snow is making the cost of the cruise seem like a bargain - at this point I'd have paid double what I paid just to get away.

Travisx4 and wcw57- what ROOMS are you guys in..if you dont want to post it here- PM me please....THANKS!!! Rachel

Got our cruise docs today!!!!!!:D

We are going to boatswains in Grand Cayman. My boys love seeing animals so I know they'll have a great time. Plus, my older Ds wants to try snorkeling for the 1st time in the snorkeling lagoon.

The snow here just keeps coming down. I wish we could get the ice under it melted already b4 getting more snow.
Now for the big question...what should we have for dinner tonight, tacos or chinese takeout???

After another foot of snow today (oh how I wish I were exaggerating!:headache:) I packed the kids clothes and booked our excursions. :cool1:
We decided to to the Seaworld Explorer Sub in Grand Cayman and Fury Catamaran in Cozumel. We certainly picked the best winter for a vacation!

For all of you southerners on the cruise here is what it looks like in the Northeast

Love yet hate those pics! Our dog has been stepping right over our 4 foot fence to escape. I need our vacation!

For all of you winging it in Key West. A bit of advise: leave the kids in the clubs and hit the bars. Last year we, DH and DW, brought the kids with us for a couple of hours on Key West; DD got her hair braided, DS laughed at the "colorful statues" outside the gallery and then went to the ship for a late lunch. We left the kids on the ship "reluctently" and went back for some adult fun. Ment to hit many bars, but after Hogs Breath we hit Irish Kevins and the entertainment was so much fun we didn't leave till 7:00pm. Best idea of the trip to leave the kids on the ship for this few hours. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy some adult time and let the Disney staff tend to the minors. BUT DON'T MISS THE SHIP!!!!

Yup, another Westfielder here! (hi Lisa! and welcome Bonnie - wonder how many more of us there will be...) I have 1 at Roosevelt, 1 at Wilson, and 1 at Christopher Academy (Jackson is THRILLED he'll have Jacob to hang out with!)

Does anyone know what the weather will be like on the trip??? I have no idea what type of clothes to pack. The last time we did this cruise it was June/July and it was scorching. I'm thinking it might be a little cooler this time, especially at night.

Has anyone done a Carribean cruise in February before?

Hi Susan,

We did a 4 day Wonder cruise a while ago (the last time Westfield schools had a week off in February, I think). It was chilly in Florida, but still shorts weather. I remember that it was pretty hot in Nassau and beautiful in Castaway Cay. The water was chilly, but we still got in!
I am SO SO over this snow. Finally getting my act together and going to start packing and have to find the girls' summer stuff! LOL.
Looking forward to meeting another Westfielder!
How old is your Wilson'er - girl or boy. My Emma (8) has bunch of friends there and has been grilling me!

Take care,
Bonnie
