February 12th, 2005 Western. Who's going???

Yes the packing has begun at my house, and now I am stressing a bit. I decided that I need to finally make a chart and list what think I want to wear each day (yes my sister has already told me that I am nuts). So to help me with this, does anyone know which day will be formal and semi-formal nights?
Oh, and save some of that rum for me!

Hi Everyone!

Only 8 more days! I can't wait!

Jen, you are so organized with your list of everyone..I never even thought about that! Glad to see someone is thinking ahead. Sorry I didn't post our names before.. I am Kristen, DH (Jay), DS12 (Tyler), DD10 (Emily), DD77(Victoria), and DD4(Isabel). Oops, almost forgot to mention my parents, Linda and Wayne. This is their second DCL cruise...They loved it so we just had to try it too!

What time do you guys usually get to the port terminal? I think will we will leave here around 7am. It is about 200 miles north of here but there tends to be quite a bit of traffic on 95. What do you think..too early?

Kristen, depends at what speed you drive......... :earseek: LOL !!!

Its best to get to the Port around 10:30 to 11:00.......... thats about the time they start checking in. You can get there a little sooner, but you risk waiting in line in your vehicle to drop off your luggage. Disney has to get the last weeks passengers off and the ship re-stocked. You would board around 12:00 PM

Kristen, I have your family's names added to the list now. I just keep going back and editing it. If anyone wants to print the list out or something right before the cruise, it's on page 34 of our thread. :earboy2:

Oh my 8 days--must get & keep all healthy.
Need to pack  So much to do, seems like the last 6months have flown by. Ok more questions for my in the know new friends.
Do you take & use your video cameras? Do you do laundry or have it done or take enough or too much clothes? Those of you with dd may know the problem I have. This goes with this & these shoes only. I really dont want to be the family with 8 suitcases for the 4 of us. Then theres the beer :drinking1 issue. Do we carry on a case, more or less. My dh can drink 4-6 each night just because. Now he'll be on vaction. I can see our drink tab being quite large.
Any wisdom would be welcome, I have made a list of stuff to bring from other threads & I like to be over prepared
Wendy

Wendy, your post made me smile :teeth:
I will be the family of 4 with 8 suitcases....OK maybe 7
I overpack, but tend to use most of what I've packed.
We will have one suitcase filled mostly with shoes - and
duct tape, over the door shoe hanger, shaker, adult beverage plastic cups, chargers for phones, camera and game boys, extension cord/power strip, first aid kit, and other things we may or may not use.

I am planning on getting to the terminal at a decent time. The in laws will be in tow. Really motivated to switch to 1st seating ;)

What to bring is always a personal decision. We try not to bring the entire house with us.........but we have more than just one suitcase per person........... So do what is best for you. Also, it depends how many you will have in a room. Lots of luggage means lots of things to put away !!!

We didn't take our video camera with last year and have been debating if we wanted to take it this year. I'm guessing we won't just because it's just one more thing to lug around. May bring the laptop though so we can upload pictures to it.
I never did laundry. I'm on vacation and the only reason you may see me in the laundry room is if I have to iron something! We packed WAY too many clothes last year and I suspect I'll do the same this year. Kaela isn't my fashion diva but Beth is so I know what you mean about outfits having to go together!
Beer~if your DH can drink that much, I would say if you're up to carrying it around before you get into your stateroom, I'd bring it. I think we're planning on bringing on some wine but other than that I'm not sure. I was kind of thinking of bringing stuff of appletinis since they are my current favorite.

And you're smart to be over prepared. Last year I didn't plan as well for some things so I'm doing better this year. For example, Beth got a terrible cold so we had to visit the ships store to buy cold medicine. Very expensive! Oh, and I had a surprise visit by my monthly visitor. Even if you shouldn't have that while you're on the ship, bring stuff with you because you don't want to pay the price they want for "supplies". We went to Target the other day and bought Sudefed, Immodium and something else but I can't remember right now. The way I look at it, I'll most likely use all that stuff at home anyway so it's not a waste of money.

Don't worry we will also be the family with 8 cases, why not :confused3 the ship allows 2 per person, so I say go for it. One case with clothes the other with any adult beverage. :drinking1
I plan to bring a video those moments you may never be able to capture.
As for laundry bring detergent, but plan on NOT doing any laundry and if you have to, well you'll be prepared...

Well finally, I heard back by email. Lysol said they only make the 1.5oz trial size when they are introducing a new scent, but they would send off my request to the marketing dept....blah blah blah blah..... so now I am stuck bringing a large can....
Do they allow arosol cans in packed luggage, I guess they would for deoderant..
Mark, you know the answer to that????
Steph

Thanks for the info on Lysol. They could make a bundle on trial sizes during cold and flu season alone, not to mention travelers.
DH packs aerosol (sp?) can when he travels, so don't think it's a problem.
He flew last week with one in his luggage.

Thanks for the info on aerosol cans. I guess if one of us forgets something we know enough people already to borrow something from...

Okay, its only 11:30 and ...Jen, you have not posted ...are you sleeping ?? :cloud9:
:rotfl2: Sure, that's it, I was sleeping. Actually, I was down in the basement chained to the ironing board. I have to do a little packing each night because I've done almost nothing up until tonight so I'm way behind schedule!

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone would like me to include their stateroom number on the list of who is going. That way if you want to find someone on the ship, you'll know where they are. If anyone is interested, let me know either here on the board or in a PM.

Wow, your ironing, I suck at that. I try and not buy anything that needs ironing. I guess when we get on the ship I may have to iron something we'll see. I take a lot of "travel clothes" the ones that don't wrinkle, Chico's makes them, they don't wrinkle. I got my suitecases out and I am proud of that, usually I pack the day b4 we leave. I thought I would get ahead start this time, my DH travels for his job, so he is leaving monday and getting back thur nite and then we leave friday morning. I guess he will have to trust me to pack for him.

Jen-ok with me to put stateroom # down. I'm realling hoping to make somthing for our door. Not sure how to but maybe I will put Shannon on that. I'm sure it will help us locate our door. Have my dh share with you his story about getting lost @ WDW PO resort, with the girls locked in the room.
My ironing is waiting for me. Hopefully this weekend. Last night placed order w LLbean & dh still has no jacket. :earseek:
Allison is going to dr this pm, temp seems gone but still very congrested.
Warming up here today almost 40--One week from now I'll be in the airport waiting to head to sunny florida :sunny:
Back to work for now, may have to cut out early to get hd jacket.

Good morning to all fellow cruisers. One week to go!! A few things I've been thinking about this morning when I should be working :)

1) I booked the Cozumel Beach Break. Has anyone else? I thought it sounded like a good deal since it's all-inclusive and less expensive than some of Disney's Cozumel excursions.

2) The Lysol deal...just thinking...Clorox makes bleach-wipes that might be a bit more convenient (less heavy maybe?)...good for wiping off those door knobs, etc. for protection against colds, etc.

3) I always bring a travel iron/streamer because no matter how well I pack, clothes will get wrinkled. I use the table which can raise up and put a towel on it for an ironing board. Works well.

4) $$...I think I usually spend about $400 extra on each 7-day cruise for excursions/tips/drinks. I plan to have cash for tips in separate envelopes ready to go before the cruise...then I just place them in the safe and pass them out on the last night. I often put the $ in a "Thank You" card for each CM. I also like having an envelope of $1 bills for room service tips, just makes it more handy. ...Order the Cheese Plate and Choc Chip Cookies through room service...my best tip. :)

5) I've never used an extension cord or power strip because there are outlets right beside the dressing table. I do bring my own blow dryer...I have thick hair and the ones in the bathrooms aren't very powerful.

6) For carry-ons definitely bring something that has wheels. My son will bring a rolling back pack and I'll bring a small suitcase with wheels. If you get on the ship at 12 you'll most likely have to lug everything with you until 1:30 when you can get into your room. They were pretty strict about that time the last time I was on the ship and the time before I was lugging so much stuff everywhere it was a nightmare...especially if you have little ones to look after. Also if you pack alcohol in your carry on, which is what I do because I don't want any breakage...it can get very heavy.

7) Wal-Mart .89 cent lanyards for the kids...perfect for KTTW cards and a place to put pins is they collect them...invaluable for kids having to keep up with their room keys...although I didn't use mine.

8) Make sure to really explore the ship. It's amazing how every part of the ship is decorated...stairways...walls everywhere...there is sooo much to see and we all know that Disney is into the details...you'll find them all over the ship....and of course look for the hidden Mickeys everywhere. :)

9) Take one day to do almost nothing except look at the ocean, the wide-open sky and thoroughly relax...read a book, soak up the sun, indulge in some really great drinks, but try not to get overly concerned about activities...just for one day...you'll be amazed at the difference in how you feel when you go to dinner.

OK, these are just some things I've been thinking about and remembering from past cruises. I hope they help...just thinking about these things has brought back such wonderful memories...no wonder I book again each time I'm on board. :)

By the way, Nathan and I are in room 5127...funny the same room my mum and I had two years ago.

Since Mark mentioned the Magic's horn, if any of you are interested in hearing it, let me know and I can e-mail it to you. A couple we were with last year managed to capture it on their camera.

Hey, that would be a cool idea Jen. I think that will just get the kids even more excited.....okay....kidding....get "ME" more excited. Could you please email that to me at my home address www.jhamilton26@cogeco.ca that would be cool!!

Thanks!
