February 10, 2007 7-Day Western Who's coming?

DCL is killing me with the room changes. I'm leaving Scott and his family on until he says for sure. Lots of DISers on deck 6. Blue Margaritas will be on deck 5 and by the Adult pool.

At the moment, everything is sort of up in the air. I am waiting until the ship is in St. Thomas this week and Ashley has cell signal to get an update. The thing is, that we can definately be on board, but in her room. Well, I wish I could show you guys a picture of her cast room...I mean we would fit...BUT...I don't know if sleeping on the floor for a week is going to work. Plus, Ashley has to work and having us sprawled out would be a pain. Then there is the problem of luggage. If we are all in that room, there is just no place for it to go. So, I am thinking there is just no way I can do formal night, or any themed anything...I just have to get the essentials in the smallest space necessary. Since we will not know until we are ON BOARD and SAILING...this is really a challenge. I have volunteered to just get off the ship in Key West and fly either home or make an impromptu theme park week of it all so that mother can see the shows. I saw them rehearse Twice Charmed in Toronto. There were no sets or full costumes, but at least I saw it in its basic form. I also saw the Spanish Web routine from Golden Mickeys for that matter. But, I now realize that it would be FAR easier for me to just fly to Hong Kong Disneyland and see that than it is to get on this silly ship. Of course, no Ashley in China!

I know this is sad, but I am just no longer interested in any of the cruise stuff. I just want to see the shows with my sister.

Maybe there will be good news (I can't imagine any more bad news...I mean REALLY!)

Ok, I am getting a final head count for the Sotos Stingray tour. As far as I have it 4DuncansFromCanada(Jenn 2 adults and 2 kids) and Ocean Breeze(Deb 3 adults and 1 kid) are joining us. Was there anyone else? Demswalsh, didn't you say you had booked their first tour also? How does anyone get any work done at work? :sad2:
There will be three adults and two children (DS6, DD10) with our group for the Sotos trip!

You're not in the room long enough to focus on that. We have 5 rooms and more than enough space for your family to store luggage or get ready for any of the nights. We are a crazy bunch but very friendly and will help out however we can. I took a tip from this board and went to the Spa after going in the hottub on my last cruise. It was so relaxing and wonderful and free. I heard that some guys do that so the girls can take over the room. Don't let things like that be a deal breaker and instead focus on the time you will spend with your sister and family.

I am new to all this too. I had to read back to all your posts. I am driving my DH crazy because he is trying to sleep and I keep waking him about all the comments...like over the door things, door signs, and hepatitis shots.

There will be us(41) and (37) and our dd(12) ds(9) dd(6) dd(3 3/4) my DD(59 and widowed 8/1/06) and our ds German exchange student(17). :laundy:

I need some advice as to where to look for all these travel tips on this cruise. Any direction will be appreciated. We are a busy household and honestly this is the first I have sat down to think about the trip:rotfl2:

We are from York PA. We are soooo excited about having this vacation. I know that we have two adjoining rooms that begin with the #4. I will check the details in the morning and get back to all of you.

I have some questions.

How formal is formal, and how semi-formal is semi-formal.
Is it a good idea to pack lightly and use the laundry?
Do we really need to make pirate outfits? I am running out of time!
Does everyone decorate their doors? How or with what?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!! Michele :cheer2:

Scott, I am sure that luggage storage can be found. We are never in our room except to sleep, change clothes or get ready for dinner or excursions. lots of fun to be had with your family, relax and enjoy. The good times will be remembered long after the crowded room is forgotten..... I bet there is space because someone ALWAYS cancels. Wood , Vicki

These were two threads that I bookmarked. Also

http://www.dcltribute.com/had some great maps of Port Canaveral, the ship and ports etc.http://www.dcltribute.com

I know it seems so overwhelming at first. But really, everthing is already done for you so if you just show up you will still have a good time. But seeing as you did sit sown and probably google the cruise (like I did a month ago) you probably are like the rest of us and like to be more involved. ask away - there are some pretty kind and knowledgeable people here. When are you arriving in Florida?

Welcome Michele!

I just wanted to say "hi" We (DH Gene - DD Sierra DS Michael) live in York County PA I think we are like a half hour from York (we are in Delta. Just moved here from Baltimore.) I am still learning everything I can about Disney Cruises!! I feel so overwhelmed sometimes!! I just got the new Passporter book in the mail and it is great - everything you need to know about the cruise is in there!! Not much longer now...I can't wait!!

Welcome aboard Michele!!

Don't stress. It sounds like you really have your hands full. And, you know what, if you don't do anything except throw some clothes in a suitcase and show up, you will HAVE A BLAST!! :cool1:

I hadn't discovered these boards when we took our first cruise and we survived--in fact, we even had fun! In some ways, I honestly think it was easier that way. I recently spent weeks searching high and low for one of those @#@! over-the-door shoe organizers. :confused3

And if you do forget something, chance are one of us over-zealous super organizers here will probably have one to lend you or even an extra whatever!!:lmao: OK, guys, didn't mean any offense...was only talking about myself!!:rotfl:

This thread talks all about using the onboard laundry service--you are on vacation afterall!

Here's more laundry advice. Though I must confess the guy in the thread above had me convinced--who wants to do laundry on vacation!

This thread talks about door signs. But there was another thread that talked about how people saw very few doors decorated. So, DO NOT sweat it!! Really...

As to pirate outfits, you could go either way. We're not dressing up because we have reservations in Palo that night (it's Valentines Day). Others are dressing up. The pirate party will be fun either way. At dinner you'll receive a bandana to wear--instant costume!

How formal is formal, how semi is semi?? Good questions. On our last cruise we saw folks wearing everything from ball gowns, to cocktail dresses, to sun dresses, to slacks and a basic top and everything in between. It truly runs the gamut--do whatever you are comfortable with. There will be others dressed just like you!

The links that Jenn (4DuncansfromCanada) included in her post are great--lots of tips and ideas.

Regardless of what you do, stop by and have a drink with us when we meet after the lifeboat drill and before the sail away party on the deck above the adult pool. I think we said the port side??! (Did you catch that fancy nautical lingo???!!:rotfl: )

OK guys..we are waaaay behind. I just noticed that the Feb 3rd Eastern thread has 917 replies. We only have 509!!! :confused3

And I thought we were a fairly chatty group!:rotfl:

Must be quality over quantity.:lmao: :lmao:

So true . . . :thumbsup2

I think the overall thought was there are more people on the cruise the week before and the week after . . . we all picked the best week!

Welcome Millszookeeper . . . don't sweat it . . . this is meant to be a relaxing week . . .though like Jenn (4duncansfromcanada), you are probably like the rest of us and like to have everything . . . but at this point the most importing thing to have is a swimming suit and a great attitude!

As far as semi-formal versus formal, I'm wearing a very similar outfit both nights, but pants one night and a skirt the other . . . and one of the outfits will probably be worn to to Palo's! DH is wearing a suit on formal, and is debating between just a different shirt and tie, or a sport coat for semi.

As far as laundry on board, DH has already stated that he is sending everything of his that needs to be ironed out on the day we get there (I don't do is ironing!). I totally agree with my stuff. I don't want to spend any of my vacation time ironing or doing laundry. I plan to bring at least a new shirt for each day, but will double up on shorts and pants . . . From what I've been figuring out, I won't be wearing most of them more than a few hours a day. . . . I always overpack, but I am trying real hard to limit what I bring . . .

Another place to try is home improvement stores . . . I found mine at Lowe, but have also seen at Home Depot and Menards . . .Don't know if any of the chains are in Canada . . . Saw some also at Target, but they were not clear and they wanted $25 for it . . . (fancy fabric). . .

Anything else you guys can't find. Maybe I can find it here for you?

Ok Cruisemates - I've been reading about SeaSafe and how it protects you from Jellyfish stings and the rashes that are caused by the jellyfish larvia . . .(do a search for Seasafe on the board . . . )

My question to you, those I have come to trust. . . your thoughts?, have you puchased? have you ever had a rash after swimming in the ocean? I have broken out after being in the ocean in Puerto Rico, but assumed it has a sun rash . . . now I'm not so sure . . .

You can always buy a couple of the 4 for $10.00 t shirts on shore and just leave them on board when you go home.Or buy a couple of good ones on board and take them home dirty in a plastic bag. I have to say that I really am glad to have the avalibility just in case my DW needs to do any of her womanly chores...... The real problem is next Oct. we are on the Celebrity Constellation for 25 days and they have no laundry and I think their prices are much higher for having it done. It sounds like the rooms on DCL are smaller with not as much storage space.(our first on DCL so we are in the dark here) The specality resturants on X are $30.00 each...not like the $10.00 for Palo. We have done several long cruises and its tougher to pack for the 21 to 30 days.....7 days...no sweat Woody , Vicki

There will be three adults and two children (DS6, DD10) with our group for the Sotos trip!

You booked directly with Sotos right? I don't want to give Kerry too many if she has your group listed seperately. I just can't wait!

:welcome: Michele! :flower3: If you haven't booked an excursion we still have room on our Grand Cayman one. It is a snorkel and Stingray City with just our group from this board. :grouphug: I just contacted the operator and she said there is still space. Your group is pretty much the age group that is going with us. Let me know if you are interested. There is a link to the website in the previous posts with pics and info.

-I don't know if you have Catos in your area but we found formal gowns (floor length with beautiful beading work) marked down to $30.00.
-My brother said he just tosses his clothes in the dryer after boarding and gets the wrinkles out.
-Some of our guys bought Pirate costumes for $14.99 pirate: (see previous posts for link) and they arrived within 4 days and were very nice. Most of us girls are just wearing white puffy shirts and skirts.
-We are decorating our doors and have never done it before. I've invited everyone to come by and check them out because they will be hysterical :rotfl2: and it's something I haven't seen done before. I've gotten some clipart off these boards and you just buy a roll of magnetics and attach to the back. You can get some great ideas from the main board.:thumbsup2
-I've done a little newsletter for my group with tips and hints that I've picked up from these boards and from cruising, especially tips to save money. There are actually 5 Newsletters right now so PM me, if you would like them, and I will PM them to you. I don't want to post them and bore anyone with stuff they have already read.

I went on a 3 day and thought I had done pretty good with packing and still over packed. One excellent tip I had ready was a woman that said she took a very nice pair of black slacks and just wore a different top with it each night for dinner. My brother always rents the tux onboard and then wears the pants with just the shirt for semi-formal night. He likes it for when he flies because it is in his room waiting and includes the shoes. JCPennys has tuxes for $99.00 online. We are all dressing for formal night but it's because we want some really nice pictures.

Another good tip if you have a group is to go in on a Shutters package and get one of each picture and when you get back go to this site:
https://www.image.com/html/guest-postcruiseCopyrightReleaseForm.cfm
and print out the release. You can then go to Walmart or any drug store and get reprints/enlargments made at a fraction of the cost (told you we were a penny pinching group).

Thanks for the info!:thumbsup2 M DD is very sensitive and I put that on the list. I remember reading about that, but hadn't put it on my list to buy, even though I meant to. Thanks for the reminder. I will be buying it and putting out to my group. Better safe than a rash. :rotfl: If anyone else has some tips they think are worth mentioning please post. We've been planning this for a year but some last minute reminders are always helpful. My brother got eaten up by sand fleas in the Bahamas but I don't know if they are in Cozumel/Grand Caymans or not. His wife put on OFF and didn't have any problems.
