Feb. eat out of the fridge/freezer/pantry challenge

I don't really have enough to make it through the month. We do on a regular basis anyway. Good Luck to everyone though.

ok this was way buried for Feb 1st!

2/1:
pork chops (with shake n bake)
whole grain rice

all from pantry! :thumbsup2

~ok, the pork chops were from the freezer ;)

enough leftover for another meal. The boys ate well as did my oldest. My younger DD told me that girls don't eat meat and promptly left the table when I put 3 tiny little pieces of pork on her plate. LOL

Hey - this is exactly what I posted in the "No Buy February" thread -

I have been stockpiling and I'm ready to use it up! I also do Angel Food so I have a freezer full of meats plus I bought 3 whole chickens and a 5# package of ground beef that were on sale in Jan.

The first thing I did was make out an inventory on paper - kitchen cabinets, pantry, inside freezer, outside freezer, etc. Then I planned meals using my favorite recipes.

We could also use this thread for people to list what they have in their pantry and we can suggest meals/recipes!

well since I'm the only one doing this, I guess I'll post to myself :rotfl:

2/1 ~ pantry only
2/2 ~ pantry only (need bananas, eggs and yogurt)

It is only Feb 2, and I've already had my first "off the wagon" experience.

Can't bring the requested snacks to tomorrow's Super Bowl party without a trip to the grocery store. (At least chips, salsas, sour cream etc. are on sale).

Did use up some frozen meat and older potatoes lingering under the sink by making stew last night. Tonight is spaghetti with the meatballs leftover since Christmas Eve. They were Swedish meatballs in brown gravy for our smorgasbord. Last night I simmered them in red spaghetti sauce and presto-chango--they were Italian!

I am sooo in on this one.:cool1: I already posted on the No Buy Feb thread that my grocery budget for month will be $60 and I think that may be a stretch. Shared monthly cooking has helped me not only with what to cook, but, on saving money doing it as well. We have so much food stockpiled in pantry and freezer that my DBIL shops here instead of the stores. Atleast here it's free. He likes that.:thumbsup2

We are going to have a $0 grocery bill in February. That's a great thing. But, the reason why is not.

My FIL was diagnosed with Stage 2 lung cancer in December and he starts his 6-week radiation/chemotherapy on February 4. He is going to the IU School of Medicine in Indianapolis for treatment (his doctor is the one that treated Lance Armstrong!). We live about 1/2 north of downtown Indy but my ILs live in NW Indiana. Soooo....they are moving in with us for the next 6 weeks. My MIL feels bad about it and said she'd buy all the groceries for us for the 6 weeks they are here.

I'm sorry to hear about your FIL. Hopefully, he will have the success that Lance Armstrong had! It's great that he has his doctor. I'm sure it will help him a lot to stay with you guys too. I'll keep him and the family in my thoughts and prayers.

I may be up to the challenge. I do have a stocked freezer and pantry. I just need to develop a plan.

I only bought milk, bread and Eggo's yesterday. And I left myself $10 in the budget to pick up produce at the farmer's market on Tuesday.

Mom was nice enough to make us some slow cooked pork butt yesterday and we still have leftovers of that, so we're eating it again tonite! I'd normally run out for cabbage to eat the leftovers with, but since that could push me off the wagon, we're eating it as is.

I've already got the menu for the week, and other than onions and celery and maybe a carrot or two, I don't need to buy anything else this week! :cool1:

(We're having chili, shoyu chicken, spaghetti and stir fry, not necessarily in that order.)

Woohoo!

Good luck everyone!

:hippie:

I spent $32 at the store on Friday but shouldn't have to go back the rest of the week. It was mostly for veggies, fruit, soda, milk, TB cleaner, and cream. I did stock up on some bottles of Propel for the coming spring and summer. They were only 50 cents so that was a good buy.

This week everything on the menus is from the pantry or freezer. I can't even begin to do an inventory as I have so much! Good luck everyone.

count me in. I will have to buy some milk each week and some salad or apples. Otherwise I am in... I was just thinking about how broke we were due to really high heating bills:sick: ... I was thinking I would not be able to serious food shop until March1:eek: .. So Iwent into the freezer and I found some Turkey bacon and made it.
This works out great we have a salad from the party yesterday and I can make BLT's for lunch:woohoo: Tomm the kids will be takeing a salad with bacon in it for lunch:love:

Went to the grocery store 2/1 and only purchased non-pantry items..

2 loaves of bread
lunchmeat
apples
lettuce
juice boxes
mayo - I know but I really had none in the house plus once opened it goes in the fridge;)

On January 31st I did shop for lent and purchased tuna, tuna helper, cod, and fish sticks. So even though it was feb's budget I knew this was going to happen, we will not need anything else as I can do meatless spaghetitti, salads, and grilled cheese.

I will post my meals a bit later today.

I just looked in my cubbard and I have
8 jars of Peanutbutter
6 jelly jars
10 boxes of Mac and cheese:confused:
7 boxes of ziti
6 boxes of Spagetti

2/1 ~ pantry only
2/2 ~ pantry only (need bananas, eggs and yogurt)
2/3 ~ pantry only (still need the above items ;) )
2/4 ~ pantry only (I'll get the needed items tonight, if I remember)

ETA~ thank goodness I'm not doing this all alone! It was pretty lonely here for a few days!

I'm in! Has anyone ever frozen lunch meat? We were given a deli meat tray that was left over from the superbowl party. It is too much meat for us though and I am wondering how to make it work for sandwiches for a long time. Could I freeze some of the turkey/ham and then thaw it for sandwiches in a couple of weeks? I know we will be sick of cold cuts soon!!!

1 large bag of frozen Christmas ham
3 oranges
6 grapefruit
2 bags of 10 bean soup
3 pounds of onions
4 green sour apples
2 loaves of bread
5 loaves of buns (any ideas on the best way to freeze these?)
6 chicken/hamburger helpers
3 boxes cheerios
2 boxes total
1 box of corn pops
tea
1 can of pringles
1 oatmeal
7 peanut butters
several pounds of rice, regular, brown and sushi
saltines
7 pounds of cabbage (this was to be slaw - eeck that is a lot!)
10 boxes of trail mix granola type bars
3 chef boyardees
6 cans of chickpeas
6 cans of mandarin oranges

3 dozen eggs
2 pounds bacon
2 pounds of carrots
2 bags of doritos

Lunch - pizza (fridge)
Dinner - a lot of cabbage stir fried with ham and 5 spice, sort of like the insides of an eggroll (fridge, freezer)
