Feb 5th - 12th 2012 Mexican Riviera on the Disney Wonder

Answers to the Questions of the Day:

My name is Lori and I'm ready to cruise!!

December 9 * What time are you scheduled to arrive? I arrive the morning of the 5th....red-eye flight from Anchorage.

December 10 * What inspired you to book this vacation? A friend and I decided to celebrate our 50th B-days between the dates.

December 11 * What’s up with your DISboard name? part of an email address

December 12 * Ages and sex of those in your group? Me 50, friend 49, friend's son 7.

December 13 * What kind of vacation planner are you? An idea of what I want to do, with enough flexible time to play it by ear.

December 14 * How formal are you going for formal night? Long dress, sandals, inexpensive sparkly jewelry...

December 15 * Where are you from and tell us a bit about your hometown.
Born and raised in Alaska, started in Fairbanks, moved to Anchorage as a 10yo. Love my state, it is beautiful, but still looking forward to some fun in the sun!
December 16 * Disney newbie or an expert? Totally a newbie! I went to Disneyland as a child in 1967...
December 17 * What are you looking forward to the most about the cruise? Fun in the sun, swimming, sightseeing, eating...what's not to love?!?!
December 18 * What do you do? I am a cashier at Costco...been working there for more than 27 years. I have worked in several different departments, but cashier accounts for most of my tenure.
December 19 * What is a unique Disney Cruising tip you have? First timer...sounds like the best tip is to come prepared to have lots of fun!

December 20 * Favorite Disney film? Not sure...but I think Lion King, I saw the stage show too, and it was spectacular.

December 21 * What are your plans for the holidays? I went to church then to my niece's house to spend the day with family. Grand niece and nephew are 4&8 and I love hanging out with them.

December 22 * What is your favorite food item? Hmmmm, my mom's homemade stroganoff.
December 23 * How many times have you cruised with Disney? Total Rookie!
December 24 * What are you eating tonight? Don't remember...must not have been exciting.
December 25 * What’s the funniest holiday story you have? One Christmas I got a "Giggles" doll, when you squeezed her arms she laughed. I woke up to the sound of my brothers playing with her on Christmas morning.

December 26 * What is/was your favorite gift? Watching my nephew enjoying the R/C truck I gave him for Christmas...that and spending the day with family.

December 27 * Do you have any surprises for a fellow traveler? Pleading the 5th...

December 29 * Have you ever had an “It’s a Small World” experience? Of course! Many times...but one of my coolest ones happened when I traveled to St Louis for a meeting of United Methodist Women, the group was walking to a park in town, and while I was walking I heard some ladies talking about Tingly Iowa, my mom graduated there in a HS class of 6 and my ears perked up...turned out one of the women graduated with my Aunt.

December 30 * Who wants a Facebook group? Yes. Waiting on approval to join the current group.

December 31 * Do you have a New Year's resolution? Nah...

January 2 * What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods? We have had a wild and wacky winter....none of the conditions are particularly unusual (more snow than is typical) but it has been way above average, way below average, way windier than average and snowier than average, and all of these have happened in the same week. Forecast is for another giant snow storm tonight.

January 3 * Do you have main seating or late seating for dinner? Main

January 4 * Are you bringing drinks on board? If so, what? Nope, prefer soft drinks.

January 5 * What excursions has everyone booked? Pirate Boat Sail & Snorkel Adventure in PV, San Jose City Tour first day in Cabo and Cabo Dolphin Swim second day.

January 6 * What kind of heat are you packing? Fuji waterproof, shockproof point and shoot, Fuji finepix 14mp 30x (and a tripod to shoot the fireworks)

January 7 * Are you making any special purchases for the cruise? New dresses for formal night and semi formal night, new swimsuit, new shoes...
January 8 * Who would be interested in an early morning port meet-up? This is in addition to the official DisMeet/FE Meet. If I am on board early enough it would be great to meet everyone...
January 9 * Are you dressing up for Pirate Night? I haven't thought about it, but may be able to throw something together.
January 10 * Maybe the DISboards logo with "Ahoy WONDERing Mateys!" However, "Tundra to Tropics" fits us just fine!(copied this list and pasting my answers...this works for me)

January 11 * How are you getting to port? Plane, Train or Automobile (a combination of the above is allowed, of course). Automobile to the airport, airplane to California, shuttle to the port. :eeyore:

Welcome msttfn!!!!

We are flying in from Calgary Friday night, staying at The Marriott opposite Disney and then not sure how to get to port. Am looking into shuttles or maybe a limo as a treat for DS7 ( as if a cruise is not enough of a birthday gift eh?)

January 7 * Are you making any special purchases for the cruise? A whiteboard for our door :)

January 8 * Who would be interested in an early morning port meet-up? This is in addition to the official DisMeet/FE Meet. If there's free beer, I'm in.

Question of the Day: Thursday, January 12

Is anyone going to visit the Disneyland Resort before and/or after their cruise? If so, when and for how long? Any other area parks (Universal/Knotts/Sea World)

We're annual passholders. We'll probably avoid immediately before. I'd like DD to refrain from catching anything prior to the cruise. We may hit up the parks after the cruise if DD misses any of the characters or if any of our cruise buddies want company.

Hawky7 - .... I'm sure she has shopped at Ann Taylor Loft. Haven't spoken with her is a few days. Played telephone tag. I'll text her and let you know. My friend, Leslie, knows your friends at the store in Spokane. Start humming..... it's a small world after all....! I haven't been to Ann Taylor in Bend and we don't look alike, so that's kind of funny. Bend is pretty small. I bet you know her somehow. Delusso Coffee, Bebop Biscotti? Her name is Lisa, as well.

I'm lost! First of all... welcome to our new disboard friends! It's a ton of fun here with super fun people! Great job answering the questions! Looking forward to meeting you. I'm behind, well sort of:

How are we getting to the cruise: Flying from Spokane to LAX via S.F. Cab to the port.

I posted somewhere that we are going to Disneyland for one day. I think that was on FB. Boy, I need a vacation!!!

Oh, Hawky7.... thanks for the offer re: FE. I think I FINALLY have it handled. I'll know in the a.m. Thought about you when Krilper and I were shopping today. It was make-up related! See, we know you so well already!

Question of the Day: Thursday, January 12

Is anyone going to visit the Disneyland Resort before and/or after their cruise? If so, when and for how long?

Yes!! After the cruise, we are taking a shuttle to DLR for our first visit ever! :cool1:

We are staying at GCV (or is that VGC? I'm such a DLR noob!) until our afternoon flight on Wednesday, and we have 4 days worth of passes. I'm really excited about finally visiting DLR! Hopefully I can collect some pointers from some of you DLR experts while we're on the cruise!

Question of the Day: Thursday, January 12

Is anyone going to visit the Disneyland Resort before and/or after their cruise? If so, when and for how long?

We arrive on Thursday, February 2 ~ staying at Park Vue Inn in Anaheim (first time staying there) but we're not renting a car this time. We have one day hopper passes for DLR so planning to be there on Friday. Booked dinner @ Ariel's Grotto to get preferred viewing for World of Color that night. (Anyone done this before? Are the preferred passes worth it?) We have friends from earlier cruises in the area so will be spending Saturday catching up before taking a car/shuttle to the port on Sunday morning.

OK folks! I FINALLY got a response from DCL about the sailing away party!! Here's what I wrote:

I just wanted to ask what is the protocol for the Sail Away Party, when
it is Super Bowl Sunday? I will be traveling on February 5th on the 7
night, Mexican Riviera cruise, on the Wonder. I have heard various
rumors, board postings and recounts of other travelers that on Super
Bowl Sunday, the Sail Away party is cancelled, due to the game. I have
heard the Sail Away party, as well as the safety drill is postponed
until the following morning.
Here are my concerns:

1. I understand the ship will be in international waters and there
might be challenges receiving a signal. Considering the game starts at
3:00 PST and the ship doesn't depart until 5:00, losing the signal to
international waters will likely not happen until after the game is
over.

2. I understand the Super Bowl will be played in all sports bars, like
Diversions, as it should be. My concern is, will the game be played on
the large screen on the deck where the Sail Away party usually takes
place? If so, will the game be turned off to accommodate the Sail Away
party?

3. I understand that the Personal Navigator and all Cast Members will
provide me with any and all information regarding this issue, but
considering DCL has departed on Super Bowl Sunday MANY times before, I'm
assuming there is a protocol and plan on what the schedule is, I would
just like a heads up, so not to get my kids excited about the Sail Away
party if it's not going to happen.

Thanks so much for your help and information. We're SO looking forward
to this sailing and hope we have the Sail Away party to look forward
to!! It was one of the highlights of our last cruise with Disney!

I went off of the other replies y'all got, didn't give them much room for a canned answer. Here's their reply:

Wilma gave me same response this morning! I think they know there are a group of people not happy with the idea of missing Sail Away. Hopefully the can get the ship to change its plans in time. I wonder how early they prepare the Navigators?

No DL trip for us. We had annual passes for the last two years but let them expire last fall in anticipation of the cruise. We will probably get them again next fall.*
