Feb 5th - 12th 2012 Mexican Riviera on the Disney Wonder

Question of the Day: Friday December 16

Are you a Disney newb or a Disney expert? What have you experienced Disney?

I'm a Disneyland/California Adventure expert, but overall, kind of a newb. I've been going to Disneyland since I was a toddler and have had a pass since June. However, never been to WDW, never done a Disney vaca, never stayed at a Disney hotel, never been on DCL. I am rather Disney movie obsessed though :-)

We're almost at the 50 day mark people!

Loving these questions!

We are Disney semi-geeks. We've seen a lot worse.

We have had passes to Disneyland for the last three years. Go about four times a year for a few days each. We have only stayed at the resort once, the other times we stay across the street for much cheaper!

This will be our first Disney cruise, but probably many more to come!

We've got tons of Disney movies on VHS, DVD, and now Blu-Ray. We're always in the theaters the first weekend of a premiere...

Girls love to dress in princess costumes, we have a bunch. They were both Jasmine for Halloween (what one wants the other must have). You'll certainly see them dresses up on the cruise.

I think I'll go with semi-pro here :lmao: This will be our 9th DCL, been to WDW many times starting back in 2000, at least once a year. Both DH and I were born in CA, so we have been to DL many times, but not as often since we started WDW. Last time was about 6 years ago. We have been DVC members since 2002. :cool1: We are at the point now that we love to just go to WDW and enjoy the DVC resorts. Spent two weeks there last Christmas and only went into the parks three times! So much to do and enjoy at the villas! Looking forward to visiting DL again!! And enjoying GCV, have 1.5 days to just hang at the resort.

Question of the Day: Thursday December 15
Where are you from and tell us a bit about your hometown. (You can include more than one location if you move around a lot)

We are from Wayne, IL - a small village about 1 hour west of Chicago. Wayne prides itself in being a speed trap, err no, Wayne prides itself in preserving its equine laden history...our only store in town had a hitching post outside of it so you could ride up...but our beloved store was gobbled up by the recession..

It is very common to pass riders on horseback nearly any time of day. On our side of our street alone, all 4 houses have horses living in their back yards. It's really neat!

Other than that, I'm allergic to horses, I prefer vehicles that stop when I ask and don't have their own opinions, the weather stinks, and we are way too far from Orlando... :P

Question of the Day: Friday December 16

Are you a Disney newb or a Disney expert?

I'd have to go with WDW & DVC expert here, with a minor in DCL ;).

We have stayed all around the Florida property from All Stars to 2 Bedroom suites in Bay Lake Towers and we have participated in numerous extras such as being the flag family at Wilderness Lodge. Never did the concierge thing though...

Our first cruise was a bonus for adding on DVC. I wasn't even remotely interested and was going to let the certificate expire. We had a last minute change of heart on that and decided to take the cruise. I booked a week at WDW/BLT to make it up to the kids for dragging them onto a boat. After all was said and done, including having arguably the least convienent guest room on the ship (1078) and a fantastic time at WDW (MNSSHP + lots more, and the best room/view ever), the kids said their favorite part of the trip was.......the cruise!!?

DW has wanted to see a whale in Alaska since the day we met, so I called within 24 hours and booked Alaska using the on-board DVC discount. Then we had such a great time in AK (DW got to see probably a dozen whales in the wild) that we booked 2 more cruises with the on-board discounts...one DVC and the other a (eek!) cash placeholder.

Enough of my rambling, looking forward to more QOTDs!! Thanks for keeping tis thread lively!

We are from Portland, Oregon. Beautiful, but rains way way WAY too much. They have a saying of Keep Portland Weird. Which is true, we have ALOT of unusual people here. Anyone ever seen the show Portlandia? It's pretty spot on if you've seen it. We've also lived in Sunny San Diego, boy oh boy do I miss that weather on a daily basis. We've lived in Vegas too, not my favorite place to live, but there was no shortage of things to do. And we lived in Bend, Oregon too. It's a resort town, and pretty small.

As far as Disney goes. I'd have to say a DL expert, and a semi-expert on WDW and DCL (Brent, you and I are opposites!) We've been DL Annual Passholders for the last 8 years, even while living in Oregon 7 of those years, and we've been Premier Passholders to DL and WDW for the last year. I haven't gotten to do any of that cool stuff that Brent did, I'm going to need to find out how you've done all that, cause it's basically my dream to get to do all things Disney. But I wouldn't say I know EVERYTHING. Just more than anyone I personally know. Which isn't saying that much, none of my friends are quite as in love with Disney as I am. I definately am the go to person when all my friends and family are planning a Disney Trip, and usually I get invited, and am the tour guide. Which is pretty fun!!!

Question of the Day: Saturday, December 17

What are you looking forward to most about your Disney Cruise? 50 Days to go!!!!

We are looking forward to the food the most. I love that we'll get to eat whatever we want, whenever we want all day long!

I am SO with you on this! I -love- Mexican food and am so looking forward to the meals, hopefully the menu onboard is well themed! Epcot/Mexico is always a priority stop at WDW for a meal.

Thanks to this thread, and my research on DL, that is what I'm really getting excited about! I have wanted to see Walt's original park for a long time! I'm such a DL newb though! I have no idea where to sit/stand for all of the shows, etc....

We are from Moorpark,CA.About an hour from Disneyland (without traffic).Im a sahm mom and my husband is a fire captain.
We have 3 kids and sports are a big part of our life with the kids.We have had annual passes since the kids have been born and at least a few times a year.We have never been to Disneyworld and this is our first Disney cruise!!

We are most looking forward to the food and our kids being able to eat whatever /whenever they want. That will be so fun for them!:yay:

For those of you that have been on a Disney cruise before,do most people dress very formal for the formal night and is there just one night of it?:cool1:

Okay last post,I promise!

I have been off the boards for a few days and was wondering if y’all have talked about the fish extender?Just wanted to make sure I didnt miss anything.Im so excited about this!!:cheer2:

Looking forward most to...........doing nothing!! Cruises for me are TRUE vacations. I don't have to cook or figure out whats for dinner, clean, walk the dogs, etc! Being DCL vets, and sans kids, we are looking forward to just being together.

@brentm, we are fans of mexican food as well, but have yet to ever have any on a disney cruise. :sad2: So unless they changed a menu or you are planning on eating off the ship, I wouldn't count on too much mexican food.

@shanie17, people really are different when it comes to formal nights. Most dress what I would call semi-formal. Not too many tuxes and formal dresses, but there will be some. There is the one formal night, and then at least one semi-formal night. Also, what sports do your kids play? We are a family of active athletes as well. Two kids in college on soccer scholarships, and myself for volleyball.

I'm looking most forward to Palo Brunch!!! Have never been since it isn't offered on 3 night cruises, and I have always wanted to go!!! DH is def most excited for all the food too!!!

We haven't discussed FE much. I promise I will put the list together, week of Christmas, and insane at work.

Brent are you guys going to DL before or after the cruise. I'd be more than happy to help with any DL questions you have as far as seating or anything! :)

3 nights at VGC (or was that GCV?) after the cruise...51 points ;)

I can't wait to watch my girls have a blast. Between the kids clubs, shows, heated pools, character meets, Mexico beaches, great food, they will have the time of their life.*

I also can't wait to enjoy time with my wife while the girls enjoy the club. I'm hopeful they will love the clubs, and give us some alone time.*

Question of the Day: Sunday, December 18

What do you do? Or not do, or used to do?

(I have nearly 50 questions to go. I figure to get there, I need to incorporate some non DCL, non Disney questions)

Me: I'm a special events designer and am often a work at home mom. I keep an office for client meetings and will sometimes have to pop in. I try to get as much done from home as possible.

Hubby: Software engineer for a tech company in Costa Mesa, CA

DD2: Eats, sleep, laughs and loves.

Question of the Day: Monday, December 19

What is one rather unique Disney Cruising tip you might have for everyone? (this can be from personal experience cruising with DCL, or something you learned in the process of researching your trip)

One of the things I'm looking forward to most is the all-you-can-eat soft serve! Some people may be happy with a Coke float, but I'm a root beer float kind of gal. Unfortunately, I don't believe there is any root beer on board (bummer). We aren't really alcohol drinkers (I might bring one bottle of Rosa Regale or Magicale), but I think I'll mostly be carrying root beers on board.

Question of the Day: Sunday, December 18

What do you do? Or not do, or used to do?

Me: CIO
DW: Foxhunts (no kill), rides horses, homeschools DD
DD: Foxhunts (no kill), constantly rides horses, creates havoc for DW and DS
DS: Does a little of everything...cub scout, soccer, Wii...kinda random with no one favorite thing

What is one rather unique Disney Cruising tip you might have for everyone? (this can be from personal experience cruising with DCL, or something you learned in the process of researching your trip)

Bring a few colored highlighters. When you get your daily navigator, each person can highlight things they want to see or do that day. It helped us to have a nice at-a-glance view of when to be at certain locations, and where scheduling conflicts would occur.

Question of the Day: Sunday, December 18

What do you do? Or not do, or used to do?

I am a transit planner here in San Diego. Wife is a lead RN at a local hospital, and the kids need to get a job and start supporting us. Acting, ice skating, whatever. They're out of diapers, it's about time...

Tip: Pack swimsuits in our carry on (with the alcohol we are bringing of course), so we can swim the first afternoon while everyone else wishes they had their swimsuits.
