Feb. 26, 2012 Mexican Riviera

Allison: We usually dont book too many excursions. My dd will be 8 on this cruise and we like to enjoy the ship while everyone is off the ship.:) I did however, book an excursion for just my dh and myself in cabo...I dont know what its called, but we are visiting the tequilla distillery!:yay:

Ummmmm, how are you arranging that..... Do you have someone else you are traveling with to stay with your daughter, or can you leave kids in the KK while you go with DH? That is VERY appealing to me, but I assumed I couldn't leave my kids on the ship, if I got off the ship.

You can leave your kids on the ship. You just need to tell them that you are leaving. My DH and I did this last April on the MR when we didn't feel comfortable with taking the kids into town.

Hi! I am brand new here and my wife and I are going on this cruise. Has anyone been to Sammy Hagars Cabo Wabo bar in Cabo? If so, is it far from the boat? Can you walk there or do you need transportation? Thanks!

We have a 20 year old dd who we are leaving her with. I am pretty sure you can leave your child in the kids club while you are on an excursion, but I have never done that before.

We left our kids onboard in October on the Eastern Carribean. DD didn't want to miss storytime with Belle. So, me and DH put our son in the nursery and walked around St. John by ourselves. We were going to go to the beach, but I didn't want to leave the kids onboard that long.

Hope everyone is getting excited!
I posted this note in the 'Cruise Meets' thread for 19Feb as well since I will be on the ship for 2 weeks in a row this time. Yahoo!

I have been on this itinerary a few times before and we found a great family restaurant in Puerto Vallarta where the medical staff are known to frequent.

La Abuela

Its just to the right of the cruise terminal so it makes a great pit stop on the way back from whatever excursion you choose. We fell in love with the food (great guacamole that they make from scratch at your table) and the staff are very friendly.

Couple other hints:

1 Please, try to avoid visiting Wallmart in PV!!! There is a great Mexcian grocery store right next to LaAbuela (Sorianas) that has better prices and employs locals, including Seniors and Kids after school.

2 Dont take the patch for motion sickness. It makes you sick and has side affects. Instead, visit the medical office and pickup a seasick tablet once on board. They work great!!

3 A fantastic excursion in Cabo (for the Adults and/or older teenagers) is the Mango Deck via water taxi. Just disembark via tender boat and book your own water taxi once you reach land. Stay away from Lovers beach, the water is way to rough and families have been washed away.

4 Take your camera to Las Caletas or whatever excursion you book. They will tell you to leave it behind. The plan is to sell you the pictures they take. Dont be fooled, take your camera. Just cover it in a platic bag during transport.

Have fun on the cruise and look for me in the hottub or on the Deck 4 running track before breakfast.

Hi DH6230!
Yes Cabo Wabo is in walking distance. My DH and I did this last April. Very east to get too. We will be doing this again this cruise!!!

Thanks for the suggestions... I think I will book at least one shore activite thru Disney... online. BTW what is Palo? I am really need to read more.

Thanks again... I am so excited I think more than my daughter... :yay:
Palo is the over 18 only restaurant. It's got an extra charge. I think it's $20 per person for either the dinner or the brunch. Brunch is only on sea days. We did brunch last time and loved it. This time we're also going to try the dinnner. The service is excellent! I would really recommend it :thumbsup2.

Jackets, however, IMHO are not an appropriate cruise packing item. Way too much space taken up. If its cold, you stay inside. Save the room for your suntan lotion and extra bathing suit. :cool2:
:cool1:

Questions:
How do I know the dining schedule? I noticed someone mentioning they scheduled Palo for the Pirate Night dinner. How do I know which night dinner I will miss to instead eat at Palo???

How does the pre-booking of the excursions work? If I reserve them right now, do I pay for them right now? Can I change my mind? Is it just better to book once we are on the ship and are sure we want to do something?

As a first time cruiser, I thought I would just want to stay on the ship because getting off feels so overwhelming with all the choices and our large family! But now I am looking over the excursions and they look so fun..... What to do, what to do??? :)

Does everyone decorate their door.....? This is something I wouldn't have ever imagined until perusing these boards.

What else do I need to know????

-Allison
We didn't really like the Pirate Night menu (it's the same in all three main restaurants), so we wanted to do Palo that night. I don't have any idea what our actual rotation will be, but when you check in they'll let you know what it is. I think you can call them a few days in advance and maybe find out, but I'm not certain about that.

Hi everyone!!!

Yes, I waited until the last minute to book but we did it.:cool1: Will be joining all you lovely DISers!! I am so excited!!! Sad that I missed out on the FE but thats ok because this is my husbands and I first cruise without the kids:banana: Let us know if you are doing a meet and greet!!!!
:cheer2:

Counting down the days till DH is home from Iraq. His contract ends Jan 31st so we expect him home sometime around Feb 7th!!party: Three and a half years working over there is LONG ENOUGH!!!
I'm excited for you getting your husband back!

I'm so excited :dance3:. And I'm up for a meet and greet if anyone wants to get on planned. Six more weeks! (And a few days.)

We've been there, it IS walkable but I'd grab a taxi as it would be a longer walk with not much to see along the way.

Hope everyone is getting excited!

I just have to add the water at Lover's Beach isn't so bad it's the other side "Divorce Beach" that's bad. We've had a few days at Lover's Beach where the water was quite nice and other times when it's a little too rough to swim comfortably.

Thanks so much everyone for the information. It is our first cruise and we are really looking forward to it!

Your going to LOVE it!!! We started cruising 11 years ago, and now, that is the only vacation we seem to do anymore. We have sailed on other cruiselines, but disney is our favorite and this will be my 12th disney cruise.

So has anyone booked any excursions?? Which ones are the best for a nice relaxing day??

We booked the Paradise Beach Adventure in PV. Although, trying to decide if it's worth it or not. Has anyone here done it before? We just want a nice beach that's safe with 2 little ones.

We haven't booked anything in Cabo. We'll just probably do Medano Beach there.

We booked Paradise Adventure too!! :cool1:
But I am debating the same thing, is it worth it for a family of 4 for just a beach day??
Do we get unlimited drinks and food while we are there?

I would love any insight that anyone has. :goodvibes

Thanks!!

Paradise Beach excursion for us too! This could very well be our own little meet! lol

I have read great things about it. Unlimited drinks, and yummy food. Many claim it is the best part of the whole cruise for them.

I can't believe the cruise is less than 7 weeks away. This is our first ever cruise, and we are surprising the kids! Nervous how that will turn out!!!

This site http://wikimapia.org/#lat=22.881256&lon=-109.9104989&z=17&l=0&m=b&search=cabo san lucas mexico has a great interactive map of Cabo. It might help you get a lay of the land before going.

That map is very helpful! Thanks for posting it.

I noticed that right on Medano Beach is JT Watersports where you can rent kayaks and other stuff. Has anyone had experience with them or know anything about them. We weren't planning on doing much for excursions but renting a kayak for the day looks like fun.

The cruise is coming up fast!

Love the Paradise Beach excursion. We've booked it and it will be our third time in the last year. Unlimited yummy drinks. Lunch is a buffet and is good as well. The pool is great. We've also done kayaking and boogie boarding (free as well). You'll love it!
