Hi all...
I know we'd decided to close the list January first because I'd heard from many of you that you were making gifts and would need time to assemble these. I am doing the same.
We recently added one, possibly two other families. Another messaged me to ask to join too and was surprised that we wouldn't leave it open longer. This person said that another FE of theirs was left open until the week before. My previous FE exchange was closed 2 1/2 months before to allow time to make gifts. They all differ, and we had agreed on our set date.

So, I'd like to hear from everyone on this:
Should we open it up longer, say Jan. 31? Or keep it how it is?

For me personally, my gifts take a long time to make and I need all this time to make them, and have already purchased all the materials just enough for the group we have. I could not possibly finish the FE gifts with new members added much closer. I know a few others of you are in that same boat. Others may just be buying something that is quick. I don't know.

Do we accept new families for another week or so if they request, however let them know that they may or may not receive a few of our gifts since we are already underway? So that they can still participate, but not put added pressure on those of us who purchased supplies to make gifts based on the original #'s.

I hate to cut anyone out, but we did have the deadline. What are your thoughts? Just trying to be fair to everyone on this..

I think what you said a few posts earlier is good-some people have already purchased materials for handmade things and won't have time, and others of us will have enough gifts for everyone, even newccomers. So I think most of the newcomers would understand that they might not get FE gifts from all participants and would probably be okay with it. I know on my 9 cruises the deadline has also varied. Since I will have enough, I'm personally ok with anyone joining any time

I really don't mind late additions, BUT, I had already purchased the supplies and started on gifts for our original group. So, I was thinking that I will bring extra things for the latecomers, but I don't think I'll have time to buy and make my original, more elaborate gift, for everyone.

I just hate to tell people 'no' if they want to participate!

Just to add in my two cents...I have no problem adding new people to the FE group, as my FE gifts are easy enough to make more of. However, the new additions need to be aware that they may not get gifts from all who are participating.

I don't mind any late additions, but my FE gifts are pretty simple. I have never cruised before so I am not sure what a reasonable cut off time is, but we must be getting close to it... Soon, we sail!

If there is no cut off date, all the new additions will be getting the shampoo & soap from our room...just kidding!

Thanks for the input everyone. I will keep it closed for now. However, if others ask to join, which I do have one person who messaged me about it, I will let them sign up, but let them know that they may or may not get the same gifts from some of the group since they missed the cut-off date.
Anyone after Jan. 31 will not be allowed at all, as that is too close, and I know some of us will be traveling into the LA area for pre-cruise vacations at Disney too, so more gifts after that won't be possible.

Whatever the group decides, we’re okay with.

A possible suggestion for the late comers to the group:
If all but 2 or 3 of our families are able to accommodate (because they hand-made their gifts and aren’t able to get new ones ready in time).
What we could do is invite the new cabin into the group, with everyone but those 2 or 3 cabins giving FE gifts to the new party, and the new party will have the option of giving to all cabins, or all cabins but the 2 or 3.
That might work to include everyone who wants to do the FE exchange.

Are you still interested? I've heard from a few of our group and they are fine with it. Some families may have already purchased gifts, so if that's the case, you might not get one or two since it's after the date, but I haven't heard from anyone unwilling to let you participate.

Just booked the cruise. Its first cruise for all of us. We have an 18 month old. Because we booked last minute only second seating was available. Anyone ever had luck changing? My DD bed time is 9 so well have to forego the main dining. The menus look delicious. Also,, is the food as good as it sounds?

The food IS delicious, yes! And you can check with guest services right as you board the ship and ask them to change your dining seating. They might be able to do that for you then. I hear they usually can, but you'd want to head RIGHT there when you board to be sure. Good luck!

If there is anyone who drops out or if there's room for one more family of four we would LOVE to be a part of the magic. This is our first Disney cruise and we want it to be the best ever. And if there's not we totally understand.

I'm sorry, but we extended our deadline a few times after Jan.1, and decided Jan. 31 would be the latest we could do so that the people making gifts by hand would have enough time to order supplies and prepare. This board is wonderful though, look around, ask questions, find out fun things that go on! Be sure to sign up for the FE next time you cruise! See you onboard very very soon!
