Favorite Unusual Souvenir?

I am boring and always buy one of those porcelain Christmas ornaments. My favorite souvenir is a signed David Doss print of classic Mickey and Minnie dolls sitting with a packed suitcase. It's in a hallway between our bedroom and bathroom and always makes me think of Disney. We bought it at the Art of Disney store in Epcot on a day that Mr. Doss was greeting there.

That print sounds wonderful! I just tried to google it to see what it looks like, but had no luck. Might have to look and see if they have the print still available when we go next month!

The Japanese pavilion has done well by us over the years. I've bought several yukata, a couple of folding fans ( and yes, I actually use them when its hot!), sake cups and bottle, chopsticks, rice bowls, tabi socks, and DH always gets a few bags of wasabi peas ( we can't get them here).

My favorite souvenirs though are my classic Mickey Mouse watch that I wear every day, and my Hidden Minnie pendant. Its made with Swarofski crystals and looks like a hollow heart shape. But when you look closely, the empty center is in the shape of Minnie's head.

Love the idea of the pendant! How long ago did you get it!? Would love to see a pic if you have one!!

My husband and I always get a piece of crystal from the crystal glass blowers (can't remember their names, duh!) on Main St. in the MK. Our very first one was in 1979 or 80, a long time ago. It was a beautiful crystal unicorn with gold trim on a wood look piece of glass. It was marked down to $20.00 because the base had a small crack in it. We couldn't have afforded one without the crack! No one notices the small crack and it is a beautiful piece, our favorite! I also got the rose under glass from Beauty and the Beast, an angel, and a hummingbird. Love them all.
wow I would love to get something like this on my upcoming trip, how much does a normal piece usually set you back.. if you don't mind me asking?

Is it similar to this?

Its similar. But mine has an unbroken double row of pave set crystals and the pendant goes through a loop mounted at the indent of the heart.

Hi Sara: The prices are all over the place on the crystal. You can go hundreds, or as low as the 20's. I know that gold/crystal unicorn would cost hundreds now. The latest was the rose from Beauty and the beast under a glass dome. I think it was under 100 dollars, but I can't remember exactly the cost. I just know my personal limit is up to $100. But, if you find one you really love, buy it if you can. I can guarantee that it will cost a lot more the next year. Good luck!

We always buy a Christmas ornament but have some other special mementos too.

We have a carved soapstone "family" which I saw at AKL- Jambo House but ended up having to buy it in EPCOT at the Africa Trading Post because we needed the family of 4. :)

We also have a framed print , again African themed family. Love the colours in that!

If the price didn't matter, I could be tempted by almost any of the artwork in the store in DTD.:worship:

I've bought some pretty scarves and fans - I love buying a new fan in Japan each trip. I find the scarves in most of the shops and use them at home and put them in my hair at WDW.

I also look for fun earrings - I like putting on Disney earrings at home. My DS19 likes his Haunted Mansion playing cards - he and his friends play cards together sometimes and they use those.

I used to collect the antenna toppers. I put them on dowels and then put them in my houseplants. I've stopped collecting them since I'm feeling like I have more than enough. LOL

Don't know how unique this is but I have one of the Vera Bradley Disney hipster purses. I bought and used it on our last trip (11/14) and I have continued to use it every day since then - adds a bit of Disney to my day, and I get compliments on it all the time.

I bought it using one of those 20% coupons they give out at CS places sometime, so I got a great deal on it as well. Bought it at Mousegears - by far one of my favorite Disney stores. :)

I've bought the little zippered silk pouches in Japan for myself and for gifts for my friends. They are so pretty and just the right size to carry sugar packets in my purse.
Also, when I can find the violet candies in Italy (Leone) I buy a bunch of the pretty little boxes of them and give them to friends and family.

I bought this exact vera bradley bag on our last trip. I love it and I can't believe how many compliments I have received on it. I am planning to purchase another one on our upcoming trip:-)

In the Mexico pavilion, there are folk artists who carve and whimsically paint little animals. I buy one of those almost every trip.

One year we found a WDW decorative pillow on clearance in DTD. It had the shade of blue we had in our basement decor so we snatched one up. The next year they had other pillows so we bought another WDW one. We've kept them in great condition in our family room and after about 8-9 years they still serve as fun reminders of WDW!!

On our second trip to WDW as a married couple, DH and I bought a red black and yellow Mickey themed bathroom set, as we had just had our downstairs bathroom finished. We kept it for four years, until we decided to put our house on the market. I sold the whole set to a very happy lady at one of our garage sales whose sister collected Mickey Mouse items and was actually looking for a new bathroom set!

We love these animals too. My son bought a colorful skull from the Mexican Pavillion as well. He also bought a little Brass lamp from Morocco.

On our last trip I bought short Kimono in China to use as a robe, and a scarf. Love them!

I like to buy socks when we go. I have a pair of sandal socks from Japan with sumo wrestlers on them, a pair with black Mickey hats on them, and a few more.

We ended up with an unintentional souvenir in March. DS and I collect pressed pennies. I pushed my way through the crowd on Main Street before MSEP, so that I could get us pressed pennies for the railroad. I was asking around where the machine was, since I couldn't find it. I nice railroad CM showed me where it was, while they were trying to close shop. He also handed me a penny that he had laid on the tracks for the train to run over. He said he sometimes does this and sometimes gives them to guests, but that we couldn't actually buy one. I thanked him profusely. That smashed penny now sits in my son's Disney penny book next to the railroad penny from the machine. I love little memories and pixie dust like that.

My 12 year old daughter loves to collect those little tiny cats...different colors for whatever they represent (intelligence, artistic ability, friendship, love, etc). For some reason, I can not recall if they are in the China pavilion, or the Japan pavilion, in World Showcase. I think my brain begins to shrink when I am standing in front of the Pokemon selection in Japan...then it stays with me through China. It takes a ride on Malestrom to bring me back. Guess I'm in trouble now.

I bought a lamp made of a piece of agate- it looks like a normal piece in my rock/fossil/mineral collection until I plug it in.
