Well - we found out it is a girl (according to the ultrasound - which I know is not 100% correct)

I actually like having a more "grown-up" name as a given name and then using a shortened version. Gives the child more possibilities when they get older if they don't like what mom/dad picked.

I like boys to have nice names that will harmonize with a last name.........more common, as males seem to like that for themselves and others.........with a nice, short, manly "call" name, which I've listed down below..........this also helps with recognizing and writing when they go to school, as many boys have trouble with that at first.

I realize this is an old post but I am on a baby name kick ever since Dh agreed to start TTC this June. We are thinking about Ava Marie and Dominic too!! Also, i want to use Opal as a middle name- it was my great grandmother's name, and my whole family goes on about how much i am like her. If anyone can think of a good first name, i would be so grateful.
We have decided we don't want any names that have a "Y" in them- our last name ends in "y" so it would be too rhyme-y.
