i was reading the Christmas menu thread and it got me thinking. For Christmas Eve in my family we just do appetizers and dessert. We love it! The old standbys for savory are BBQ meatballs, Brie bites (mini phyllo cups, Brie, and pepper jelly) spinach artichoke dip, Greek dip (tomatoes, green onions, feta, Greek seasoning), mini hot pretzel bites with cheddar beer dip, shrimp cocktail and Stromboli.

I'm wondering if anyone has anything new or exciting or just different that your family loves?

Not really new or exciting but I roast a bunch of vegetables that can be served at room temperature. They can be roasted a day or 2 in advance. Some favorites are multicolored peppers, brussel sprouts, asparagus, squash.

Honestly I like the basic stuff like a cheese ball and crackers, shrimp cocktail and crudités

HAM AND CHEESE BALL

8 oz cream cheese

1/4 c mayonnaise

2 c cooked ham, ground (in food processor)

2 T chopped parsley

1 tsp instant minced onion

1/4 tsp dry mustard

1/4 tsp hot pepper sauce

1/2 c chopped peanuts

Beat cream cheese and mayo til smooth. Add all but peanuts. Cover and chill overnight. Pat into ball and roll in nuts.

Serve with crackers.

We do appetizers and desserts Christmas Eve, too.

We change it up every year, but a few we use frequently are:

little smokies in a blanket
hot artichoke dip
I dont know the name, but it's ham and cream cheese and a few other things rolled up in a tortilla and sliced
this year I'm going to try a pear and pecan cheese ball

We also usually pick up a veggie tray and cheese/meat/cracker tray.

Guacamole with chips. It's pretty easy to make, although I buy the chips. I use:

Avocados (Hass is ideal)
Onions (red looks best)
Tomatoes - just the fleshy parts diced
Lime or lemon juice
Black pepper
Sea salt

I don't add chili peppers, but some like it a bit spicy.

Simple, just add crackers! A block of cream cheese (room temperature) with Raspberry Chipotle sauce poured over the top! Yum!

We also add lots of the standbys that have already been mentioned.

I love appetizers. These all sound great!

Adding a few more...
hot crab dip
fried ravioli
caprese salad
potato skins with cheddar and bacon
deviled eggs
stuffed grape leaves
drunken hot dogs

Meatballs with grape jelly and chili sauce sauce. It also has soy sauce and brown sugar. Google best of bridge jelly meatballs. Huge hit.

Cranberry cocktail sausages. Melt chili sauce with cranberry sauce. Delish.

I do what we call picky picky. Really just a meat and cheese platter with good olives, pickles. Great bread and crackers.

Potato latkes with apple sauce and sour cream garnish

Our Xmas eve nibbles are:-
Quiche
Hot crab dip
Buffalo chicken dip
Sausage rolls
Cheese & crackers
Pate
Salt & pepper wings
and then a variety of family cookie recipes/dessert bars

We're doing appetizers Christmas night--mashed potato puffs, wings in the crockpot, mac & cheese bites.
I also really like serving French onion dip made from scratch, pigs in a blanket, buffalo chicken dip, homemade taquitos, buffalo chicken biscuits, crescent roll ups with mozzarella and pepperoni...
