Welcome, Gretchen!! Glad to have you here!
ChocoKat - Hope all goes well for you. Get better! Sending good vibes your way.
So... I'm back from Vegas. And, yeah, things didn't go so well with the running... I did run Wednesday night in my neighborhood. Did the full 25 minutes, no stopping, no walking, and felt pretty good about it afterward. Was very pleased with myself. So, Saturday morning I did 28 minutes running at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. A neat place to run and the weather was terrific. I ran probably about 2 miles total, with a good portion either uphill or downhill. That day and night, I had some pain in both my kneecaps, which made me hobble around. I figured it was just because I wasn't able to do my usual cold shower after the run, so my muscles didn't recover as well, plus the uphill/downhill probably didn't help. I decided that, instead of running Monday and Wednesday, I'd just run Tuesday and would use the treadmill at the Luxor gym (a lovely gym, by the way). So, I did 25 minutes on the treadmill and my left knee started to hurt a bit near the end of the run. It felt like much the same thing that my right knee had previously been doing. A little later that day, I got to the point where I could barely walk. Seriously, my Dad had to keep stopping, so I could catch up to him whenever we walked around the casino. After breakfast at the Wynn, we returned to Luxor and I left Dad in the casino, so I could go up to the room and ice my left knee. 3 hours up there, to no avail. By the time we had to leave for dinner and a show, I was in really bad shape. But, I muscled through it. That night, both knees were throbbing when I tried to get to sleep.
So, I'm still hobbling today, although it's a bit better. I need to make a doctor appointment to have him look at me again. Was a bummer, already being on the super-dose Ibuprofen that he previously gave me, because I couldn't take anything more for the pain Tuesday night.
Anyway, looks like sustained running is out of the picture for me.

I'm going to give myself two or three weeks, then try quick walking. I'll have to walk the Dana Point 5K on Thanksgiving morning. Then, I might see if I can go back to the run/walk (10 minute run/5 minute walk) and do the WDW 5K that way, to beat the pacing requirement. I'll then decide how to do the Surf City 5K. We'll see how it all goes.
Serious bummer, though. All this training, only to have something like this happen. But, it was serious enough pain that I don't want to tempt it to happen again. I even thought about asking my Dad to take me to the hospital Tuesday night, to be sure I hadn't broken anything, but the thought of sitting in an emergency room in Las Vegas was just too frightening!

Plus, I didn't want to miss the show that night!
Oh, and to top it all off, I caught a cold in Vegas. Sure, just add insult to injury.
