Fat Girls Walking Club

welcome Gretchen!!! Great to have ya!!

I have been on a slight hiatus on my workouts until I see the allergist on Tue and get new scrpits for my asthma!

It sounds like everyone is doing good!!

Keep moving everyone! I'll be back out there Tuesday night!

You can do it Gretchen!

Nikki, I am glad you are getting your allergies looked on. There is nothing more scary than being outside in the middle of a long run on your own and not being able to breathe! I can't even image :scared1:

I am nearly done with the cleaning of my work area in the home office.
What can I say, I had so much stuff between paper samples, printing samples, doodles, photos, toys, paint brushes, pens and pencils or every single kind known to man :scared: you could not see the desk anymore.

I am gonna go to the sea of decay that is the corner behind my desk, I swear I haven't even gone by there in a year and a half. Wish me luck, send in the search party if you haven't heard from me in 2 days :rotfl:

Hello ladies!
I went for yet another successful 5K yesterday with my friend's doggy. He really is a great trainer!

Afterward I did a whole yoga and stepping round on the wiifit to stretch out my muscles. The scale on the game claims I gained one pound :lmao: so I'll chalk it up to bloating due to PMS mixed in with muscles.

Really, my abs are still sore (in a good way) after Sunday's jacknife exercises. Today I'll be doing a lot of wiifitting since it has gotten quite chilly and I am getting this weird cough. I don't wanna go to the pool and risk catching a full blown cold right before my disney trip.

Just 2 and a half more work days and I'm there!!!:cool1:

Thank you all for the encouraging words. It really helps. I'm still plugging away and making some progress. Now that the cold weather is here it takes a bit more push to get me out but once I'm there I get pumped up to beat my previous times.
Wishes to all,

Ack!
Well, remember that weird cough?
It got worse on Tuesday, so I left work an hour early to go home and lay down. Stayed home yesterday drinking tea like nobody's business and loads of soup all day long. I am feeling better today and putting in my half day at the office right now :surfweb: but still a bit under the weather and drinking tea.

I have my cold meds on my lugagge and I am feeling way better than Tuesday afternoon and most of Wednesday, but I am all paranoid that I'll get sicker while at WDW. Today I am getting in to the hotel at around 5, so I am going to my room, getting DH to grab me some stuff from the food court and relaxing and sleeping it off all of tonight so tomorrow I can run around.

Of course I haven't done any exercising since Monday :scared1: I guess that whole 5K in the night on the chilly weather pushed me over the edge. Ah well, live and learn. Send me some good vibes folks! I wanna be healthy!

Welcome, Gretchen!! Glad to have you here!

ChocoKat - Hope all goes well for you. Get better! Sending good vibes your way. :goodvibes

So... I'm back from Vegas. And, yeah, things didn't go so well with the running... I did run Wednesday night in my neighborhood. Did the full 25 minutes, no stopping, no walking, and felt pretty good about it afterward. Was very pleased with myself. So, Saturday morning I did 28 minutes running at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. A neat place to run and the weather was terrific. I ran probably about 2 miles total, with a good portion either uphill or downhill. That day and night, I had some pain in both my kneecaps, which made me hobble around. I figured it was just because I wasn't able to do my usual cold shower after the run, so my muscles didn't recover as well, plus the uphill/downhill probably didn't help. I decided that, instead of running Monday and Wednesday, I'd just run Tuesday and would use the treadmill at the Luxor gym (a lovely gym, by the way). So, I did 25 minutes on the treadmill and my left knee started to hurt a bit near the end of the run. It felt like much the same thing that my right knee had previously been doing. A little later that day, I got to the point where I could barely walk. Seriously, my Dad had to keep stopping, so I could catch up to him whenever we walked around the casino. After breakfast at the Wynn, we returned to Luxor and I left Dad in the casino, so I could go up to the room and ice my left knee. 3 hours up there, to no avail. By the time we had to leave for dinner and a show, I was in really bad shape. But, I muscled through it. That night, both knees were throbbing when I tried to get to sleep.

So, I'm still hobbling today, although it's a bit better. I need to make a doctor appointment to have him look at me again. Was a bummer, already being on the super-dose Ibuprofen that he previously gave me, because I couldn't take anything more for the pain Tuesday night.

Anyway, looks like sustained running is out of the picture for me. :sad2: I'm going to give myself two or three weeks, then try quick walking. I'll have to walk the Dana Point 5K on Thanksgiving morning. Then, I might see if I can go back to the run/walk (10 minute run/5 minute walk) and do the WDW 5K that way, to beat the pacing requirement. I'll then decide how to do the Surf City 5K. We'll see how it all goes.

Serious bummer, though. All this training, only to have something like this happen. But, it was serious enough pain that I don't want to tempt it to happen again. I even thought about asking my Dad to take me to the hospital Tuesday night, to be sure I hadn't broken anything, but the thought of sitting in an emergency room in Las Vegas was just too frightening! Plus, I didn't want to miss the show that night!

Oh, and to top it all off, I caught a cold in Vegas. Sure, just add insult to injury.

ChoCoKat- Disney is normally the perfect cure for my colds! One night in the world and its gone!! Have fun and I hope you feel better

Magix- I"m sorry that running isn't going so well for you. Hopefully you can slowly get back into it. Lots of people run marathons doing intervals. Hopefully you can find a good interval for you that doesn't increase your pain and still keeps a good pace! Keep us updated!!

I started back to working out Wed. I have been on my meds since tuesday now and shouldn't have any more asthma issues. I bring my rescue inhaler out with me just in case. My friend Mary, her dog and I did about 3 miles on a local trail wed night.

I'm off to IKEA tomorrow!!! I'm so excited! Have a good weekend everyone!

Nikki - Glad you've got your asthma under control and you're back to training.

I've got a doctor's appointment to have my legs checked Tuesday. They originally said they couldn't see me until November. When I said what the problem was, they said they'd "fit me in" on Tuesday. TUESDAY!! I asked to see a different doctor in the group, but they told me I couldn't. How lame is that? I'm so glad I just switched back to Kaiser for next year. I'd be seeing a doctor today, if I were with them, instead of Cigna. Oh well. I'll hobble 'til Tuesday or hit urgent care, if I can't stand it.

Magix,

I wish I could get into a doctor that fast! We recently had a Physical Therapy patient with a bladder infection and she would have had to wait 3 weeks to get into her doctor! (She went to prompt care instead)!

I hope everything gets straightened out with your knee!! Hang in there sista!

Ok so I did a lot of moving around this weekend!!! 4 hours walking through IKEA; 4 hours walking around Birch Run Outlet Mall, and I even managed to exercise at the hotel this morning doing my week 3 program again. I thought I'd start back there and work my way back up. I did 20 minutes on the tread mill alternating running and walking and then finished with 10 mintues on the bike. Other than a bit of shin soreness/tightness I felt great!

I'm glad to be back into a workout routine!!!

Oh and best thing was NO ASTHMA troubles!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! we are preparing for our first snow fall tonight!!! Better bundle up!

Back from my doctor's visit. He sent me for an x-ray of my left knee and said they'd call me with a referral to an orthopedist. When I said where it hurt (and how much), he said "Right there? Yeah, that's cartilage. You really did it this time." Said it was going to take an orthopedist to handle it. On the x-ray form, he wrote "internal derangement" as the probable issue. Oooo... a deranged knee, just in time for Halloween! Better than a deranged mind, I suppose.

Not sure what that means, in the end, but I suppose I'll find out when I get that referral. I only have 2 more months with Cigna, before I switch back to Kaiser, so hopefully we can get the issue worked out by then.

So, sounds like I may not be able to go back to running at all for the WDW race. Not sure if I'll manage to walk fast enough for the pacing requirement. But, if I end up not being able to do that one, I'll still have a nice 2 week vacation out there and can root for my friend doing the Goofy, so no huge loss. Will just be a disappointment, is all.

I'll let you know when I get the orthopedic referral.

Magix,

I'm sorry to hear that!

It seems to me like your dr. thinks you may have a meniscus tear.

IF you have a tear
Normally these are handled 1 of 2 ways
1. arthroscopic surgery to "smooth out" the tear. There is a short recovery period and maybe like 1-2 days on crutches

2. They can do arthroscopic surgery to repair the tear. (If the tear is near a blood vessle) with this type of surgery they mend the tear and there is about 4 weeks of non-weight bearing.

Hopefully it is just super inflamed and will calm down with rest!!!

Keep us updated!!!

As for running I haven't been out since Sunday and tomorrow starts my 7-7 shifts :confused3 I'm NOT looking forward to it!

Keep moving ladies!

Oy! I'm worried that they may want to do some kind of surgery. Any period of non weight bearing worries me, mostly because I drive a stick shift (and that Mustang clutch ain't easy!!) and I'd have no way to get anywhere! It's a dumb thing to worry about (I could just rent a car for a while), but that's the kind of place my head automatically goes. :upsidedow

Magix,
So sorry to hear this news. I sure hope all goes well for you.
I'm sending some pixie dust your way for good news.

Magix I am so sorry! :headache: :grouphug: I am sending you tons of PD!

Well ladies, I am back from the Food and Wine Fest... and I LOVED it!!! It was a blast and we walked around Epcot two times after going through HS and AK :rotfl: we then hit MK and power walked around until it was time to go home.

I didn't gain any weight while there even when I ate and drank like a crazy person, so that tells you how much exercise we actually did.

My wiifit is wonderful! I have been walking my friend's doggy all this week because she is out of town and it is a great work out. I have already lost several pounds since I bought the game (like 3) :yay: so I am pretty happy.

I am now gonna work on my resume and portfolio because I have a job interview tomorrow. Send me bunches of PD my ladies! :thumbsup2

ChocoKat,
Glad to hear F & W was good and you got to exercise too. I will be leaving a week from tomorrow to get in the last weekend of F & W with my daughter. We plan to eat, drink, and walk our legs off.
Glad to hear you like the Wiifit. Was hoping to use my grandson's system and give it a try.
Sending you tons of pixie dust for tomorrow's interview.

ChocoKat- Good luck tomorrow!!!!!!!

I did a good 2 mile walk today. I didn't run because I was silly and forgot to use my inhaler before I went out!!! Doh!

Have a great week ladies!

Hello hello!
ChocoKat signing in!
I have been doing my wiifit thing every day, I walked my friend's dog all of last week, so I got plenty of exercise. The wiifit is keeping me on my toes, my legs and ab muscles are sore from all the great workouts!

I went out today to buy a new coat and found a beautiful new dress for a wedding in less than 2 weeks. I have to say I was very happy that I looked so good in it!

My interview on Friday was fantastic, it really went well beyond my expectations, and I would be quite shocked if I wasn't offered the job, but you know how it is, you can never count on it until it is on writing. Still, it was a wonderful experience, everybody was impressed with my resume and portfolio, so it was a nice ego boost.

I have now lost 4 whole pounds, so I feel like I am making progress. I have my next 5K on Nov 20th, so I am looking forward to that. I think I will start attending 5K's every weekend to keep in shape and have fun.
Keep moving forward my ladies!

Finally got my referral paper for the orthopedic surgeon. My appointment is Nov 13. My knees have actually felt a good deal better this weekend. Not sure why, but I'm happy to be able walk around like a normal person for a while. Never fails, once I go see a doctor, my problems always go away, so I feel like a idiot for going at all!

We'll see how it goes over the next week and a half, as I wait for the appointment.
