Fat Girls Walking Club

Hope things get better for you at work, ChocoKat. Sounds like way too much drama.

Nikki - Great work! I keep worrying about pacing for the 5K, myself. Even running all or most of it, I keep fearing that I won't make the pace. Luckily my first 5K (Dana Point) doesn't have a pacing requirement, so I can see how I do, but without worrying if I go over a 15 minute pace.

Annette - Everyone gets to take a break now and then. No judging from us!

So, Saturday I did my first 10/3/10 workout. I was surprised that I made it through both 10 minute runs okay. It was a beautiful morning and I think that helped. My friend met me at the track and did her first 25 minute run. She did a great job. She only walked about 30 seconds of it and stopped another 30 seconds for some water. But, she ran all the rest and I was very proud of her. Not sure how I'm going to fare when I try the same workout on Wednesday this week! All running, no walking!! Eeeek!!

Well, the drama at work continues, but yesterday DH and I went for a 3.8 Km walk before meeting a friend for coffee.

I would have done all 5K, but I would have been a bit late to meet with my friend. Still, walking we clocked at 15 min/mile, so I was very happy.

There was a downside to all of this though... today I woke up and my rear end was so sore!!! :lmao: I really worked my legs on that way I guess. I am going to the pool today, hopefully it'll help with the soreness.

Tomorrow I'll do a 5K walk, soon it will feel like nothing! :cool1:

Back from the pool.
The sun is setting way earlier now, so we had our first "night" swim of the season. It was so cool! There was an odd wind chill but the water was just fine, I loved having the stadium lightning on and the underwater lights as well. Plus you could see the beautiful moon as you swam.

It was so very pretty!

In other news... my poor gluteus maximus is still sore... because I know yall wanted to know that. :rotfl:

ChocoKat,

That sounds so beautiful!

Funny you should mention it but my backside is also sore....I laid tile at my sisters new hows (which is actually the house I grew up in, crazy store that ends with her buying it from mom and dad, but mom and dad still living in it while she and her husband are in their rental house.....go figure gotta love the drama!)

Any-who laying tile is not easy, as I found out, and now my bum hurts!! Just thought it funny that we would both have the same "odd" muscle soreness!

Keep moving peeps!

Last night's run has really wiped me out. My knee hurts pretty badly today, too. Tomorrow is my first 25 minute run, so I'm not sure how I'm going to fare in that one. I think I'll run the neighborhood, instead of the track, just because I don't want to watch the laps tick by as slowly as they will on that run. Plus, it's getting dark so early that I'd rather be on the neighborhood streets, with streetlights, than on the track, with no lights, down in a little bowl where no one can see me after all the soccer practice kids leave.

I'll be in Vegas 10/16-22. I'm planning to do my runs there, but I keep wondering how I'm going to fare walking around all day with my knee hurting like it does. At least the first few days are at the racetrack, so I can sit most of the day, if I need to. But, the last few days are just vacation time with my dad. I may need to do some pool time and send him off on his own. Besides, I don't think there's much of anything new since last time we were out there and I don't have THAT MUCH gambling money!!

Huh... I feel like I should do something to make my backside hurt, just so I can join the club today! ;)

Magix,
Good luck on your run!!! You can do it!!! As for Vegas....you know for the vacation part it is ok to take a few days rest! All the walking will keep your body moving just not pounding like running.

To get your backside hurting you can always lie on your tummy and do leg lifts!!

Well My run today did NOT go well...

I should have known that today would not be a good running day. I have had bad allergies for the past 3 days.

I started my session with a 5 minute warm up, then it was a 5 minute run....well after the run I felt an asthma attack coming on. I did my walking for 3 minutes and new instantly that I couldn't run again.

My chest was tight and I just couldn't get in any deep breaths. I called my hubby to come and get me with my inhaler......

I feel defeated, however, I know there was nothing I coudl do about. I think I'll check with my allergist next week to see if he can give me an inhaler to help prevent further attacks. I'm also going to go out with my inhaler from now on.....time to get a fanny pack!

I hope everyone else had better days!!!!

Keep moving!

No, I can't take a break for that week. As it is, my training schedule won't get me to a full 5K until the middle of the week prior to the race (Dana Point), so I don't have any days to spare. I've had to extend the training schedule to get me from where the program leaves off at 32 minutes running, so I can work myself up to 40 minutes running, which is what it will take to finish at my pace! No breaks for me!

Although... today I just feel like quitting the whole thing. :sad2: I'll feel better tomorrow, I'm sure. Just one of those days.

Hope you get your asthma under control, nikki. That can't be a good feeling. We've been having Santa Ana winds around here the past couple days and it made yesterday's run a little harder than usual, breathing all that dirt in the air.

Aw ladies! I am sorry your work outs have been such a bust!

Please please be careful! I understand the need to finish the training, but what is the point of finishing the plan if you can't give it your all come race day? Don't go overdoing it! Just listen to your bodies and adjust, I believe in you!

I felt like giving up my 5K right before it even started, I really did. I hadn't finished my plan, I had had lousy training sessions, I just didn't know if I could do it, but I did!

If I can do it so can you! Don't give up!

Today I am borrowing my friends doggy for a very fast 5K run. Wish me luck, it is the first 5K since my race. I am looking forward to it!

WooHoo!
I am back and had a resounding success!!
I made the whole 5K... plus an extra half K and kept a 15.2 min mile pace walking. Woot Woot!

I had to stop just a couple of seconds here and there to tend to doggy pick up and once because my shoelace came untied, so I have to say I impressed myself!

I am starting to ponder the Princess 5K more and more now

Ladies,

First things first: please make sure that you are taking care of yourselves. Make sure that you are listening to your body and resting when needed.

Choco- Nice job tonight. Maybe that is the secret-run with a dog.

I'm trying to find somewhere in our town to run inside once the weather turns nasty. I cannot run on a treadmill (it scares me, think George Jetson but with a large woman). Wish me luck.

I think we should all do the Princess 5k. That would be great :)

Keep Moving Forward

Annette :)

Nikki - Congrats on entering the Princess Race! I am confident you will make the 15 minute pace. Keep up the training and you will do great!

ChocoKat - Wow your nighttime swim sounds beautiful. The moon and pool lights on a fall night. Once a month in the summer when I was growing up our local pool would have night swim, it was loads of fun, my parents always took us, it's a fond memory. Feel free to borrow my pugs Parker & Disney if your friends dog isn't available. ;)

Magix - You are my inspiration girl! You won't even let a trip to Las Vegas slow you down! How proud I am of you! You rock!

Annette - Can I relate to the weather. I can't avoid the rain here in WA. Instead I am going to buy a good raincoat and walk except on the days... when the sideways rain is pelting me.

Ladies you all inspire me to keep moving forward and continue my journey toward weight loss & my 15 minute pace for the DLHM.

Wishing I could run, walk, and or crawl the Princess with all of you!

Walking On :cool2:
Chris

If I could do the Princess, I would, too. But, my January trip to WDW is the only one I can swing right now.

Tolemommy - Thanks for saying I'm your inspiration! That's extremely cool to hear.

So, I've managed to COMPLETELY freak myself out about tonight's 25 minute run. Trying to calm my nerves by looking at it as two 12:30 runs. So what if there's no walk in between them? If I need to walk 30 seconds or a minute here and there, I can do that and not consider the evening a failure. Right? Right???

OK... it's OK... I'll be OK... Just 2 runs, adding 2:30 onto each of the 10 minute runs I did last time. I don't need a walk in between. I can do this. I'm tough, I'm resilient. Oy....

I agree :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: you can do it. Can't wait to hear how it went.

Magix we'll keep the home fires burning while the rest are off doing the Princess. ;)

Back from another night swim. The moon didn't come out to greet us today, but the synchronized swimming team was there and provided lovely swimming music.

My arms and legs are sooo tired, but in a good way. I think tomorrow I'll do another 5K, I really like the route I figured out, it is well lit, on a nice neighborhood, and passes by my office, so if I need anything after or before the run I can go into my building and get some water or use the powder room :rotfl:

I hope everything went well Magix, don't feel terrible if it didn't, I was sending you good vibes all afternoon! :grouphug:

Hi everyone.
My best to all of you. You are truly my inspiration.
My 2 daughters have signed us up for the Princess 5k. They want to keep me in shape since I have just recently retired and have put on a few (too many) pounds over the past years.
I have started to do more walking the past few months and just now have started to work towards the C25k in the part 2 weeks. It's been tough but I am convinced I can do this. Wish me luck since my time stinks and I need to really work at this.
Thanks for listening.
Gretchen

Hello Gretchen!
The Princess 5K is a great way to get started. My first 5K was the Expedition Everest Challenge last month and I have gotten hooked!!

Don't give up on your training and keep coming by for encouragement! You can do this!!!

I went out to buy veggies for my dinners and some gift cards for a b-day party yesterday after work at Costco, and you know what I found at a great price? The wii fit!!!

I hadn't seen one of them on sale anywhere since it was released, and it was just $79 buckaroos, so I snagged myself one. I spent a whole hour yesterday playing with it, and it has some difficult exercises! I was sweating by the end. Looks like a good exercise to do before going on a long run to have some fun and warm up, it also weights you and keeps track of your progress, so it is perfect for me.

Of course it told me I am "Obese", no surprise there, and it did not hurt my feelings, because lets be honest, I have to accept the fact that I am overweight and that I need to loose some weight in order to be healthy, the whole "fitting into smaller clothes, yadda yadda" just comes as an extra reward. Being able to do a 5K in 30 minutes or less, now THAT's a reward! :yay:

It was silly that it called my DH "overweight" though, since he is all muscle and just about 10lbs from what would be an "ideal" super fit weight, (as evaluated by our doctor), so I didn't sweat it too much.

I had too much fun with my new toy, so it ended up being too late for going for my 5K, and today my favorite pool is closed due to a swim meet, I also have a b-day party to go to after we go to the mall and get DH fitted for a tux for his brother's wedding, and we need to clean the house so I can do some work on my portfolio... because... I am getting a job interview in Halloween!!! Woot!

Also... my trip down to Disney World is less than a week away now and the house has to be spotless so we can relax when we get back and my cat sitter won't be scared :scared1: :rotfl:

I think I will fit in there a small work out on the elliptical at the gym downstairs of my apt complex, or maybe some wii fit.

 :laundy: :scared: OK maybe that's a lot of stuff for one day, but I have energy to spare and I am pumped, so I can do it!!! Wish me luck though :rotfl2:

We also have the Wii fit. I don't use it much since I don't like to exercise indoors. That is why MI winters kill me. I like to be outside even when the temp dips but when the wind chill is 32 below, it's not possible no matter how much you bundle up. The air is sucked out of your lungs!

Annette :)

I so understand what you mean!
Until I started going to the pool again and training outside for my 5K I really had sworn off outdoor exercising, but now I crave it.
I am indeed extremely lucky to live in FL, we can go outside even when it is REALLY chilly.

I mostly plan to use the wii fit as a tracking help for my weight and balance, I have really bad balance and I am always falling over, so this should help.

I accomplish around half of my list. We got DH fitted for his tux, we bought some presentation boards for my portfolio, we found gifts for the birthday girl, but theeen we found a phone on sale for the house (ours hates our wifi), then I found a CD and DVD set for teaching myself Japanese at a killer price... (I so have been wanting to learn a third language!) :rotfl:

So of course we came back home and in between plugging the new phones and messing around with the Japanese course it was already time to go to the b-day party... which we just left a bit ago, I had a couple of drinks, some cheese, and an onion soup, so I am stuffed and tired. Just had enough energy to shower and check my mail.

It is all ok though, I need to clean the house tomorrow and fit a walk in there won't be so difficult.:laundy:

Wow ChocoKat you sure are busy. I hear you on trying to get all those things done that are planned in your head. I'm still trying to make sure I fit in those 5K fast walks each day along with everything else. The weather here is getting a bit chilly so I need to really work at getting outside too. My daughters have treadmills at home so once the weather gets too cold I think I will be visiting them more often for my walking. I figure they won't mind since they really are my inspiration anyway.
Good luck to you with all your endeavors.
