Fat Girls Walking Club

Hmmmm I haven't tried buying biofreeze yet... the samples seem never ending on that tote. But I am guessing that if you can't find them at your local walmart you could definitely find it at CVS or Walgreens.

One word of advice about biofreeze: Do not apply to arms or back! I was sooo sore one day I went a bit biofreeze crazy... :scared1: It was SO cold it burnt!! I had to shower to try and get it off. On the legs though, it is godsend!

Chris,
have you thought about joining your local YMCA? I HATED walking outside, so that was my excuse for not exercising, after joining the Y I didn't have any more ammo :rotfl: the atmosphere at my local Y is very laid back, not many muscle heads or teeny girls running around trying to "hook up" and hogging machines trying to look cute. It motivated me a lot too.

Ugh, my old gym had those cute girls and muscle-bound guys all trying to get attention. I worked out there for 2 years and never spoke to anyone. The trainers would walk around and only talk to the cute girls, instead of offering their services to those of us who actually needed them.

My current gym is so much better. It's packed with people, but I don't feel like anyone is competing or showing off. There are some cute girls and muscle men, but they just do their own thing. My trainer is fantastic and I actually speak to people and have friends there. It's great!

I had a bit of a hard time with the workout last night. Final workout of week 1. But, I usually have my trainer appointment on Mondays, so I'm not used to dealing with the crowds on the cardio equipment. Trainer had to move me to Wednesday for the next 7 weeks. So, I tried to hit the treadmill for my walk/run first thing, but there were probably 10 people waiting. That's with something like 20-25 treadmills! I finally gave up and did 20 minutes on the ellliptical, which wore me out a bit. I wanted to row, but both rowers were taken, so I waited 10 minutes to get a treadmill. It was much more difficult doing the walk/run when I'd already done 20 minutes of cardio. But, I made it through. No real pain after this time, either, which is great.

I'm a little scared about this Thursday, when I start week 2. I'll go from 3 min walking/1 min running repeated 6 times to 2 min walking/1 min running repeated 10 times! Although, when I write it out in totals, so it's going from 18 minutes walking/6 minutes running to 20 minutes walking/10 minutes running, it doesn't seem quite as bad. I mean, I should be able to run 10 minutes... right??? Think I might do my first outdoor training on Saturday. Perhaps the track at the local junior high, or maybe a park just a short bit from my house. I think running outside will feel much nicer.

Can you add the Circle of Life 5K (on WDW Half/Full Marathon weekend 2009)? I'm doing that one.

Thanks Nikki! Great job!!:cool1:

Sorta out of the blue but one of the things I have determined to do is to stop telling myself:
"I will do it once I lose some weight"
For an example:
"I will start going to the pool... once I lose some weight"
"I will join the gym... once I lose some weight"
"I will buy new cute clothes... once I lose some weight"
"I will go on a beach vacay or cruise... once I lose some weight"

I told myself that for YEARS before I just got fed up and joined the Y, then this summer I kept looking longingly at the pool, missing my swim-team days, and I went and bought me a plus sized bathing suit and you know what?! There were bigger people there too enjoying their water aerobics, so, if Jennie Q, age 60 on her tiger stripped one piece glory has the guts to go there and get healthy, well so do I!!! :rotfl: (In a way tamer number of course :upsidedow )

Don't let the fact that you are your size now keep you down from doing fun things that will do you good, keep moving forward and have fun with it! :cheer2:

Magix- I added your event to the list. I'm sorry I missed it!!

ChocoKat- You go girl!! It took me a while to get out of the "I'll do X once I lose weight" I lost out on so many cool opportunities! Since I have stopped that using that saying I have actually become more active and lost more weight!

I went out on a run tonight with a podcast "First Day 2 5K" Its an interval program. It kicked my shins good!!! I'm stretching them out and icing them good tonight!!!1

Woot woot! :cool1:
I am happy to report that I got back on the road today. My shins were acting wonderfully for the first kilometer, which I finished in about 11 mins, but then I felt a slight pain on my right shin, so we headed back into the indoor gym area and I did some recumbent bike to cool off my legs since I have to learn patience and pacing.

I just slapped a liberal amount of biofreeze on them and added the shin support to compress them. I am so happy I could go back out, and I made sure to figure out my limits before I messed them up again.

Keep moving forward!!

Hey Girls.

Nikki- great job on listing all the events. I will paste that into the first post so that we can add more as we sign up.

Amanda didn't post today, so I will tell you her news- she did 2 miles in under 34 minutes! Great job Mandy!:)

We only have 9 more days until our vacation. Amanda is taking her laptop, so we will be able to post.

Have a great night and Keep Moving Forward :)

Checking in after a week and a half's disappearance...

After the DL 5k, I thought to myself, "ok, what's next?" Here I had worked myself up about keeping the required pace. And with DH's help, I did it - even better than I had expected or hoped. If I could do the DL 5k, I could do any ol' 5k.

I've been so bad. I haven't gotten on the treadmill since. I know I should. If I don't use it, I'll lose it.

I did register for the San Diego Zoo 5k on Oct. 11; my niece and her son from out of town are coming and will walk with me. I haven't yet but fully intend to register for Sea World's 1mi/4mi walk on Oct. 4.

I keep dreaming/wishing/hoping about the Princess 5k. But at this time, I don't think it's affordable.

Hmmm, do you think I'm in a slump? Gotta find that motivation somewhere.

I'd like to join my local YMCA but it will depend on how much the monthly fee is. Unfortunately I am already starting to cut back & save for next year's trip to DL for half marathon. Plus both my son's will be in college at the same time for the next two years  = watching every penny.

I totally agree I don't want to work out at a gym that is filled w/muscle heads & teeny girls complaining about their weight... No thanks.

I do love to walk & run outside!

WOW you ROCK Nikki!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
Thanks bunches for compiling this list for all of us Fat Chicks.

Just read the list what an amazing group we are!

I walked for 58 minutes today at a pretty good pace, it was a beautiful day.

Walk On!
Chris

Today was a "rest" day for me.

I did a lot around the house and mowed the law today. It was hard to not go out and walk but I did some stretching and icing of my lower extremities!

I know that I'll need this to do another interval training tomorrow!

I have been going at this fitness thing for a good month now and have lost 10lbs!!! I'm excited!!!

I hope everyone had a good day! I can't wait to hear from all of you tomorrow!!

I rested yesterday as well, today I am off to run again and I will try and do a whole 5K.
My shins were tired yesterday, so hopefully today they are doing better.
I am freaking out a bit that the EE5K is just two weeks away and all:scared: . I really want to do well on my first actual 5K race.

Please send some good vibes so my shins don't act up today again.:headache:

Also I have been a bit bummed because I had to stop swimming until the 5K to let my muscles rest properly and concentrate on my pacing, limits and time.

I am sooo freaking out! :rotfl:

Hold fast, ChocoKat, you'll do fine. Rest is most important now, so that you don't have any problems. Sounds like you're on the right track. I'm certain when I get to the point of actually running my first 5K, I'm going to freak out about it, so I can sympathize with where you are right now. But, you've trained and you're ready. Sending good vibes for your shins! :goodvibes

I had my regular trainer appointment last night and I felt unusually strong the full hour. I did a 15 minute warmup on the elliptical, did the full 1 hour appt (which is never easy) and then he had me do a 100 meter speed row, followed by a 400 meter speed row!! Usually, I can't even do a 300 meter row, when I'm fresh and just starting my workout (I typically do a 100 then two 200s). But, I did the full 400 in something like 2:40. Frankly, I was rather impressed with myself last night. I've never had that kind of energy throughout a trainer workout. I'm hoping it means the week of walk/run training has already strengthened me and improved my stamina. Next walk/run (first of week 2) is tonight.

You are right, I should try and take it easy.
I noticed a dull pain on both shins through the day, it is there and won't go away, so I am guessing I might need to rest again today :headache:

I KNOW that if I go and push it I'll REALLY get hurt and then the whole point of training will be none. So I need to exercise patience :rotfl: it's a whooole 'nother work out :rotfl2:

Heh... if you had told me 3 years ago that I was freaking out and feeling down because I couldn't work out I'd think you are totally off your rocker.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I've been MIA lately. My foot has been bothering me lately.(heel/ arch kind of pain), so I was giving it a rest, but it didnt seem to help. Maybe I should break down and go the the doc :rotfl2:

Anyway. started my walking a lunch routine again. Currently I'm at a 16:45-17 pace. I'm hoping to get it down for the TOT race in november.

Keep up the good work everyone !!!!

Choco Kat,

Keep listening to your body! It will tell you when you need rest. However, I can also see myself "freaking out" before my first race. I"m going to sign up to do my first 5K in November. It will be right at the end of my "First Day 2 5K" training that I'm doing.

I went and did my 2nd interval run for the week. I was not thinking when planning my runs this week becuase today was my Dr.s appointment where I had my wart removed from the bottom of my foot. It hurt REALLY bad for about 3 hours after removal but I went out for my run with it at a dull ache. It is still aching at the moment...... OH well! I'll get over it!

Have a good night ladies!
