News flash: there are plenty of people who think this does make for a better experience. So you won't be able to pull 9-10 FPs a day.
So if you want to ride Space Mountain more than once you have to get in the standby line. Get over it.
Disney is working to make FPs a better experience for the AVERAGE guest. Given the indignation I read on these boards by some who think they have authority to make and enforce rules about everything from line cutting to concierge access, you would think there would be more acceptance of a more equitable system---and yes it is more equitable.
Everyone has to choose from the same FP pool with the same limitations. Limiting the number of FPs means more people can obtain them. It also means there should be plenty available same day once FP- is retired and the system opened to all. The capacity is not changing just the distribution method.
What I think is bothering some people is the fact this makes FPs easier to obtain and use. People who have balked in the past at criss-crossing parks and rope drop dashes now have the opportunity to get FPs too.
See, I'm not sure it is improving the experience of the AVERAGE guest. I think it may be improving the experience of around 10% of the guests. I think that around 15-25% of the guests will have around the same experience, and 65-75% will have a diminished experience to varying degrees. Some only a little, some a lot.
I'm basing this on pretty much how the enforcement of end time windows seemed to impact guests.
We are not RD people. We weren't before MM+ and we won't be after. It does not mean FP+ is going to be all unicorns and rainbows. Yes, it means we are guaranteed 3 FPs, but I had ZERO problem getting 3 FP before, even when we hopped midday. And, guess what? Even though we frequently go during Thanksgiving week, we ALWAYS rode TSMM. Maybe only once, but we rode it via FP. As a matter of fact, we always were able to pull 4-8 FP per day. As non rd people. We never ran around the park grabbing FP after FP. No Criss crossing, coming back later and blah, blah, blah.
We are AVERAGE guests. No RD. No super touring plans. Those that never miss RD or have super touring plans are not average, it's why it works so well for them. Those that cross cross and grab FP after FP are not average. I don't think those that are happy to sit on the decreasing number of benches and people watch are average either. And we will now spend more time in lines, less time riding rides, less time watching shoes, less time seeing parades, etc, etc.
I'm not asking to ride TSMM 5 times via FP. Once is fine. I'm not asking to ride SM or BTMRR 10 times in a row. I do want to continue to have a FP for Soarin and TT each, at least once. That's the way it has always been done by these non-RD people and not doing so is a diminished experience. As a family, we've never had to get in a line standby longer than 20 minutes, and doing so now will diminish my experience. Increased standby lines because FP are limited will diminish my experience.
I've been going to WDW since 1976. The parks were less crowded, and the lines were long. A a kid, we never saw a parade because that is when we could do things. We never saw the fireworks because lines were shorter. We never saw as how because we were in line. My parents dragged us there at park opening and we stayed until closing. Great for my older siblings, but not so great for me or my little bro, who were tired and cranky. Even my parents say that my kids (when they've gone with us), have had a much better time.
There is a reason that Disney got rid of ticket books. This is just virtual ticket books. Disney is moving backwards. Long time fans talk about missing Mr Toads Wild Ride, Dreamfinder, training of CMs, maintenance workers, but not ticket books. NOT a better experience for the AVERAGE guest.
