Fastpass return or replacement?

I was positing that there was an era of Disney, not too long ago, where there was similarly no real incentive to stay onsite. People did it because they liked being on Disney property.
Even adjusted for inflation the era you are referring to had rack rates that were **extraordinarily** cheaper then they are now. After the current travel boom ends (which may be sooner then expected with the way the pandemic is unfortunately progressing), Disney is going to be in deep doo doo with hotel occupancy rates, especially in the “values” (lol what a name these days).

what does everything think to If you will be able to pay for the fast passes in advance

I much rather pay in advance if I need to and better for budgeting. paying on the day and seeing loads of money leave my account for something that used to be free isn’t very magical

do you think you will be able to mybe purchase so many in advance 🤷‍♂️
I think we will know what it costs in advance, but not sure you will actually be able to book. I cut time off my (14 night) trip, and the savings in dining, etc will go toward this if necessary.

There is absolutely no way I will be making in-app purchases that I didn't plan for in advance (I plan to try the cheapest version, but if it's not fun I will have funds set aside to get me through the trip). Like you said, that's just not magical, lol. If I have to pay a ton of money to make it enjoyable I don't plan to return. But who knows, I may love this thing =) Our next trip is kind of an experiment, I already have DVC, tickets, and flight credit to use from cancelled trips so pretty much "have" to go through with it.

My husband and I are fed up with the lack of fast pass and lack of info about it. We were planning on going to Disney World (we were supposed to be there now but rebooked for next year). But now we decided to take a completely different vacation instead and booked Beaches Turks and Caicos, where we'll be able to pay everything up front with no unknown costs and will be able to relax without horrible long lines all day. I'm still hoping the line/fast pass situation improves and is affordable and that the pandemic improves. Hopefully we will feel value and safety in going in 2023.

I could get a room at an all star for $108/night for non-holiday weeks looking at a few random dates. I'd say that's a pretty darn good value. Seeing Pop for $130-150 on some dates, having the skyliner makes that also a dang good value IMO. Obviously holidays will be higher than that.
But most definitely not "extraordinarily" higher.

Your competition down the block redefined value with their newest resorts.

According to mousesavers.com, the cheapest standard room at Pop this year is priced at $162 per night, and that’s just for a few nights this year in January on a Monday-Wednesday.

The problem is, you can’t just look at the cost of random nights. You need to look at length of stay. The cheapest weekend rates are $213 per night, so if you’re looking at a week long stay, you’re looking at paying almost $200 per night on average during the cheapest time of year.

The previous poster was talking about rack rate rooms. You must be looking at discounted rooms. According to mousesavers.com, the cheapest standard room at Pop this year is priced at $162 per night, and that’s just for a few nights this year in January on a Monday-Wednesday.

No, why would I try to compare that? All Star Music rack rate for when I checked in February is $108, there's not even any discounts available for then yet. That's just the first example I saw. I'm not just looking at single dates, I'm looking at weeks.

The thing I don’t like about all the unknowns about this is exactly that. We don’t know what they have planned, how it is supposed to work, and how it will work in actuality. I just want to know so that I know what I have to plan for. I do know this. If it turns out that this new system will cost additional money, which I’m sure it will, this is money that will come out of my souvenir or food budget. This is not going to be additional money I’m spending. I have come up with my budget for October and I will be sticking to it. Disney will not be getting more of my money.
Yes, I agree I will not be paying more, I'll be cutting back on other things. For people with less disposable income, this will be the case.

I think it will be a down to the wire announcement so they can have all the SHILLS lined up to post how great it is to PAY MORE MONEY

Look, I get it. This change could completely change the way you prefer to experience the parks. It’s a potential threat to an experience that you enjoy.

Belittling and mislabeling the people for whom the current system isn’t working, and would like to see a change, is entirely unnecessary.

As someone who is restricted to the busiest times of year to go, there are real benefits to being able to pay for additional FP.

What I am willing to give up to pay for them is the length of the trip and the frequency of our visits.

I know that this is not the right solution for everyone but to write it off as all bad and based in greed is unfair to those for whom it is an improvement.

Yes. I see it. Good deal for you! :thumbsup2

If you had to, or could add on the Friday and Saturday night it would substantially drive up your price.
I tried looking at other weekends to see what the price would be, most of them were booked. I did see one that was $132 for ASMu, not bad at all to me, especially when you average it out.

Either way, I still stand by my main point, that other than holidays and right around the 50th, I don't find hotel rates to be substantially more than they used to be.

There are things about the rumored changes that I won’t like (like the inability to pre book) and things that will be an absolute benefit for my family.

I’ve seen some posts to the effect of “Disney is charging more for a worse product” and that’s just not my perspective at all. Disney is a corporation, of course they are trying to drive revenue. But they are only getting that revenue by creating a product that the consumer wants to pay for. There is much about the rumor d system that I think would bring value to our trips in exchange for a higher price tag.

Hotels are definitely higher than say the 99s, or when I went with girlfriends in the aughts and we’d pile into an all star room for a Florida discount rate of $50 a night.

In the present, I’m able to use our AP discount for great rates at deluxe rooms. I routinely find WL and AKL under $250. My favorite to book is BW for about $270. I find those rates perfectly fair for the quality of room.

Haha, yes, definitely more than 20+ years ago!
I got GF for $330/night a couple years ago with an AP discount, that was awesome! I was able to surprise my mom for our mother-daughter trip at her lifetime dream hotel that she otherwise never would've had the chance to stay in. I've paid rack rate for deluxe before and not regretted it, but those discounts can be really nice!
