Would this scenario work: one person gets up early, takes everyone's tickets, gets into the park when it opens and gets fastpasses for RSR for everyone? Or do park tickets need to be "activated" before they work for fastpasses?

Unfortunately all of the tickets do need to be activated to get fastpasses.

As previous poster said, tickets must be activated. A good plan could be to have everyone at Rope Drop, as soon as all the tickets are activated, one of you pick all the tickets and go get the FP while the others can walk around the park, meet some characters or grab breakfast... That's what we did last year!
