Fastpass Enforcement coming?

I do understand that people who go at the busiest times of year are upset..But really... it is what it is.People survived BEFORE FP and will after it.If you are restricted to this time of year( seen alot of "Iam a teacher and have no choice posts") I understand the frustration, but you honestly knew when you became a teacher that you were going to be restricted to a school schedule. You learned to work with it before , and I am sure after some trial and error will be able to work with the new guidelines.Just like I knew when I became a nurse that I was stuck Working WEEKENDS,NIGHTS AND HOLIDAYS, it stinks but I knew it going in and I learned to work with it.

Hey, maybe we need a FP Swap app for our phones. Then if you have a set you can't use, you can post it and trade it with someone else who needs a different time.

There is one! Of course, hardly anyone uses it right now. It's called "Ride Swap" on the iTunes app store. I don't know if it's available on Android. We put some up that we wanted to trade on our last trip, but didn't get any takers. Unfortunately, you can also say you want to trade your FP's for cash, so hopefully if more people start using it, they don't use that option!!

Since math is fun I offer this tidbit.

Space Mountain has a capacity of 2000-2500 people/hour with both sides open. So settling in at 2200/hour, if my family of three decides to use their FP's late then the standby lane will have to wait an additional 4.9 extra seconds to process us. Of course the people that were in line during our return time got to save that extra 4.9 seconds.

From a financial standpoint, the change in policy and enforcement will save Disney money.

Let's use TSMM as an example. During most of the day the Standby line is at 70 minutes. However fastpass use is at 50% of people within their window. All of a sudden comes 30 minutes before Park closing and the other 50% of fastpass holders show up. This means the Standby line may stretch out to 120 minutes. The policy is anyone in the queue at Park Closing will get to ride. So this will add an hour to the actual closing time of the attraction. And it will not only affect the CMs working at TSMM, but also Custodial, Greeters at the Gate, Security, etc. So enforement will save Disney money.

IMO It does not advertise the 5 / 15 minutes cushion because they don't want it to become standard

If you introduce a rule along with its tolerance margin, then the entire time is considered to be the norm.
If the announcement had read "time window plus an acceptable margin" then everyone, CM and guest alike, would consider that acceptable margin as part of the "regular" time window.
Then guest would begin to ask for "cushions" outside of this timeframe, and CM would begin to grant them

Think of a speed limit. If the speed limit is set to 65mph and you publish a memo stating that speed traps will allow a 5mph tolerance, how fast would people drive ? 65 or a consistent 70 ? And people getting caught at 71 would then say they were just 1mph too fast, that's too rigid and unfair
see the point ?

There are the rules, and then there are the guidelines on how to enforce them. The "cushion" will come later I guess

It even says in the memo that exceptions will be granted...IMO it will only be a matter of time before it's back to like it used to be - EVERYONE will just have a personal emergency.

And...if the person in front of me is let in past their FP return time (even if it's 5 minutes) - that CM better be allowing me in past my FP time too (no matter how long past it is) or I will be demanding to see the policy in writing - along with any specifications of 'tolerance'. As written - if they are enforcing the return time, then that means even people 1 minute past will be refused entry. And if they make an exception for that person - then I will be expecting and demanding an exception for myself too.

That's why this will never work - CM's will never refuse everyone coming after their return time. And then it will end up unfair to those who won't 'fake' a personal emergency every time we're late. I'm just sad about the whole thing.

And in case anyone wants to steal it - I have my personal emergency all ready to go....

"But we're late because we had a personal emergency."
CM: "What was your emergency?"
me: "My daughter got her first period today."

I'm guessing all the male CM's at least will just wave us past at that point.:rotfl:

A bulletproof excuse if I've ever heard one.

Unless they ask for proof.

But seriously, why are people acting like this is the end of the world? And why are some people so obstinant about it?

Move along folks, nothing more to see here.

It is difficult to prove these points, because every action causes a guest reaction. What may occur could cost Disney as well. If those guests that don't get a fastpass or are only a few minutes late to use theirs become discouraged and the experience is unpleasant, it could be a negative.

Could enforcement discourage people from making sit down reservations in the parks? You don't know what time your fastpasses will be for and you don't know if you will have time for your meal. How many people might skip a dinner or show up late because they HAVE to use their fastpass in the window?

Any scenario that we throw out about what happens at park closing is mere guesses. Do guests really pile in at the end of the night with expired passes or is just all the people that have one that ends in the last hour.

While I use fastpasses late, it is out of convenience to not have to criss cross the park all day. Most of the time I will use them in the time frame or close. I personally believe that a one hour time frame is too small to enforce the return times. I believe it should be a two to four hour time frame at a minimum. There are too many factors at a theme park that come into play. When you are in line at one ride that suddenly slows down loading or breaks and you know you are pushing it for your fastpass, what do you do? I believe it is these reasons that Disney does not enforce the end times, because there are too many factors/excuses to come into play.

See, that's why some people can't get ahead....you're already planning to lie before you even get there :rolleyes1,:sad2:

After awhile no excuses will be tolerated and some of us will only have ourselves to blame :rolleyes1:headache::mad:

THIS! Thanks, CF, for putting the dollar signs into the equation.

I can also see how all those people now in the SM stand-by and FP lines near closing are NOT spending money in the gift shops on their way to the front gate.

Jack and the Beanstalk must be Bob's favorite. He all about the beans (sans the Magic).

Maybe they'll make a button for that!!!

I can hear the greetings from the CMs already... "Congratulations, Danielle!"

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Anniversary button
Birthday button
special occassion button
first visit button
first visit from aunt flo button

It's a natural progression.

I agree with this, but I think the numbers are a bit excessive. Even among DIS members, only 40% admit to using them intentionally late consistently, and less than 25% do so late in the day. And that is from a self-admittedly small subset of overall guests, the great majority of which don't know a fraction of the stuff we do... :)

However, even 1% (and still likely too high a number) accumulated over the entire day could result in a long line at the end of the day.

Those numbers are completely wrong. I exclusively ride TSM by getting in line ten or so minutes before the park closes. Never fastpass it. The line is usually 20 minutes at most (even though it says 50 or 60) and almost nobody comes through the fastpass line.

The whole fastpass enforcement will affect different people different ways. People who can go at less busy times or who have different priorities in the parks may not see a difference. Our family goes during the busy times of the year (not our choice) so it will greatly affect how many rides we will be able to do and at what times we can do them. It's a major change to us and will result in us having to rethink our overall plan for each day, including our ADRs. We refuse to wait more than an hour for a ride that takes only a few minutes, so having fastpasses for the whole day allowed us to maximize our day. Now we will likely only be able to ride the popular rides in the morning and then have to switch our focus to less popular rides and shows in the afternoon and evening. We love Disney, so we will figure it out, but I'm not going to pretend to be happy about the change.
