Universal's Express Plus passes are NOT included with the park ticket and must be purchased separately. Also...they are only good for one ride on each attraction using Express access. If you stay onsite, it's a different matter. You would receive unlimited Express access for all attractions and it's included in the hotel rate.

i couldn't have said that better metro.....

you are always on the mark!

Thats why it always more cost effective too stay on-site!!

They now have a Express Pass Plus VIP which includeds park admission and unlimited EP, but the prices are crazy.

i was reading that. the one day ticket and ex pass with no limit rides. $150.+
the 7 day admission ticket with epp for unlimited rides. $260 + tax.

i'm sure it wouldn't be a regular universal park goer that would buy that.

if there were 2 in your party, for a one day ticket and the unlimited ep would cost $300 plus tax.

and the other promo of 7 days of admission....2 people x's 2/$260 = $520 plus tax.........

stay on site, get the epp for free. get 2 days of free ep....
use AAA for a room discount and you have a deal.

get the one day ticket at a discount and still come out ahead.

Thats why I said the price was crazy. I guess thats for the person that wants to go for the first time with no time to do it.:lmao:

I would like to confirm what I have been reading about the Express pass and FOTL pass plus ask a question.

Are they two different passes? (I keep seeing the names interchanged when someone has asked a question about them.)

The Express pass can be purchased before or on the same day that you enter the park. The passes can run out so buy early. The pass allows you one "express" ride on each big ride for that one day.

The FOTL pass comes with your on-site hotel stay. This pass allows you to go to the front of the line for all big rides and shows (that allow this) as many times as you would like for that one day.

Now, please correct me if I am wrong, you are only allowed to use the FOTL pass two times during your on-site hotel stay no matter how long you stay? We are thinking 8 days so we would use it on which days? DH says check in day and check out day.

Sorry for the confusion. I've been all over the web and this site trying to find the answer. I keep reading different stuff and some of the info is really old.

Never mind! I found the Sticky for it. :thumbsup2

However, they seem to charge a DELUXE price for their hotels... We just want to run over from Disney for a day at each of the two Universal parks during our February trip.

Thanks everyone for the info. I "thought" staying on-site would get you the Express Pass and allow you to use it all day, every day for the length of your stay but then DH mentioned that you could only use it the day you checked in and the day you checked out. That sounded really strange to me but I think he was getting confusde because much of the information on here is giving the example of staying one night and when you do that you get the EP from the time you check in until the park closes on the day you check out. See, 2 days; 1 when you check in and 1 when you check out. I let him know that it is good for the entire length of your stay and he thought that was AWESOME!

They charge a deluxe price because they are deluxe hotels!! Nothing like the values or mods at Disney. Nothing. All three hotels are deluxe. Some might say that they are even nicer than some of the Disney deluxes... ;)

Maybe they should consider adding a VALUE/MODERATE so that regular people can afford to stay there. I've actually considered staying at Disney POP Century but going to Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure each day.

I understand what you are saying. Honestly, I'm about as regular as they come. We are a hard working, probably lower middle class, family of 3. I save, save, save and pay on my vacations throughout the year. But, Universal also offers some great discounts. AAA, Supersaver, APH. You can get an on site resort for $149 a night if you look around. Of course, dates matter too. But $149 is VERY reasonable for what you get...deluxe accomodations, easy walk or boat ride from resort to parks, awesome pools, FOTL (the best perk IMHO).

Honestly, if they were to build a value resort, that would impact the usfulness of FOTL and would be unfair to anyone who pays a higher rate at the other resorts. Unless those staying at a value didn't receive the same perks, ie. FOTL.

You should look at the time of the year that you go before you do that. If you go at a busy time like this past week, then you would be better off staying at a Universal site than buying each individual in your party an express ticket that could only be used one time for each big ride; whereas, if you stay on site you can ride the big rides over and over and over....:woohoo:

The hotels at Disney don't even compare to Uni's. We've stayed at all 3 types of Disney--value, moderate and Deluxe. Loews goes the extra mile and really pampers their guests and you don't even realize that you are close to an amusement park. The atmosphere feels like you truly are in the Tropics (RPH) or Italy (PBH) and Hard Rock is just, plain cool. Don't even try to compare it to the old, run down Contemporary.

We noticed that because Universal was so crowded last weekthat a lot of people did buy the passes; very few were using room keys. The lines were longer than usual, but I'm so glad that we didn't have to wait 90 minutes for the Simpsons or the Hulk or Mummy or 60 for Dueling Dragons.

We thought about heading to Disney for a day because we had tickets, but a woman in line behind us said that they had been there the days before (Dec 25-30ish) and said that the Fast Passes were completely gone at all of the Disney rides even before 10 a.m. You don't have to worry about that at Universal the wait they do their Express.

We waited, but never more than 10 or 15 minutes.

We even got seated earlier at Mythos because it gives you preferred seating in restaurants--supposedly cuts your wait time in half.

And riding Dueling Dragons and Hulk and Mummy 5x each in a row is AWESOME.
