Fast Pass Plus Changes ....

You're making a huge assumption here that Disney cares about that demographic.

ITA. People who live locally, come to the parks for a few rides, don't stay onsite, don't do onsite meals, and don't buy sounveniers aren't really who Disney wants to keep happy. FP+ was designed to get guests to spend more. I would guess that the local AP holder is probably the group that not only spends the least, but will likely spend the least no matter how many FP+ experiences you throw at them.

there a reason the amusement parks spend millions advertising in the Florida and give discounts to Florida residents.. thats a demographic that you can get into the park multiple times a year to spend money rather than maybe every 5 years like the out of town family.

You are making assumptions as well.

True. But my assumptions are supported by the current policy. It would be inconsistent for my assumption to be wrong while at the same time, not have FPs held back for "day of".

You're making a huge assumption here that Disney cares about that demographic. Disney cares about FL residents who buy APs. And those folks can pre-book. Disney could not care less about FL residents who do not buy APs and who wake up in the morning and decide to go to a park. Not one bit.
I don't even think they care about AP holders. FP+ is all about the first time "trip of a lifetime" visitor who spends a huge chunk of change. It's meant to make them happy.

And the people you describe can all buy APs and TiW cards. Disney isn't going to go out of its way to appease local people who eschew that opportunity. Once you have your AP in hand, you get to pre-book and all of this becomes moot. No need for "day of" FPs for AP holders.

Do you know for a certainty of the status of the holding back of FP+s as being the current policy?

I also wonder how much control each park's operations has over how to allot their FPs. So maybe DHS has made the decision not to hold any back, but at MK (where The Hub works) they do hold back some?

Thank you for pointing out all the assumptions being made.:thumbsup2 I'm pretty positive Shaden made that clear in his original post.

FTR, I was not the first to jump in with a claim that people were making assumptions. JimmyV was.

Should I post a picture so you will understand more clearly?

I am wondering how this works with the new fastpass system where after you have used your 3 fastpass for that day you can go to an in park kiosk and add more but only 1 at a time for the same day. I have talked to many cast member and even my friend that works down there in the park and this new system rolled in a couple of weeks ago. So this new system you are talking about doesn't seem to make since. This seems like its incorrect information that you were given.

You can still pull 4th FPs and beyond, but you will be getting them from a pool of what is left. They don't need to keep some aside to have that functionality in place.

If hold back was occurring, we would have expected to see reports of people being aced out of prime attractions during last minute booking. Hasn't happened. Worst we've seen is limited availability to re-schedule to more optimal time. Your sister will likely get the attractions she wants (forget 7DMT and A&E), but maybe not at the exact times she wants.

Haha yeah she says she has to start looking at big ticket rides like ADRs for the more popular restaurants. She was uber surprised when I called her to tell her that I had booked a SDMT for her for opening day if she wanted it. She was gonna show up an wait in the line not realizing FP+ was already available for it.

This new system is all about preplanning!

yes but they have to get people to actually want to buy the annual pass, or the spring 3/4 day passes they offer every year. if a family from tampa shows up and has to wait 70 minutes to get on pirates and cant get fastpasses to anything they arent going to come back.

To properly plan for one park, you need to know the status of the others.

This is definitely central planning.

...which is why the family from Tampa should use their phone or computer to book FPs in advance. Disney is giving that family an outlet by which to avoid the 70 minute wait and the "no fast pass" result. It that family chooses not to grab the life preserver, whose fault is that?

Seems people are getting 4-7th FPs in the parks now. It would seem that if they are not holding any back for day of...then during busy times- there won't be any left to book upon arrival.

AND

perhaps when people start catching onto FP+ and really working with the system- there won't be FPs left to book your 4th even on slower days.

Disney wants FL residents and will have no trouble retaining them. This group already has the advantage of greater flexibility, lower gate fees, lower ancillary costs (travel/lodging). They now have the added benefit of prebooking 30 days out.

For the limited number of guests who just happened to be driving by and thought it would be a good idea to buy $100 day passes? :sad2:

All of this is true. There is a difference between holding back FPs and having FPs available on the day of. You can get a FP for the Tea Cups. They will NEVER sell out in advance. So the fact that you will be able to get a Tea Cup FP on the day of, or as your 4th FP is not proof that they were held back. Only that they did not get used up in advance. FP+ promises you 3 FPs. No more. People are getting more because there are more. On very busy days, people aren't going to get 6 or 7 or 8 FPs. We just haven't hit those days yet. Given the lack of popularity of certain FP attractions, the ability to get a 4th or 5th should continue to be there. But Disney isn't going to hold back Toy Story FPs for you to use as your 4th of the day while at the same time telling the family in Peoria who is trying to book that ride in advance that they cannot.

Driving home as I type here. Well, riding while DH drives. Experiences from the past few days leans toward some sort of hold back going on. We changed plans almost every day. I'd booked afternoon FP 60 days out. Once we saw how the extras were working we changed to morning FP. Then we changed which park we were headed to on whims. 15 minutes before RD, there were no TSMM FP until 5pm or later. Then 5 minutes prior I checked again and there were multiple times from 9:05am on. Same for Soarin.
