Fast Pass ONLY?

While reading these threads, I'm noticing other DISers saying that certain attractions and character meet ups are going Fast Pass Only. Is this a temporary thing? Is it something they do for one day, then return to stand by?
Are, they going toward this for all attractions eventually? I hope they don't do that. This would limit everyone to three attractions.

As I understand it, WDW was going to give the idea a trial run with a few character meet & greets being FP only. But that idea has either been scrapped, or at least postponed for the time being.
