Fanny Packs

I have worn one but only when we go to theme parks. It makes life much easier. I don't want to wear a purse or a cross body bag. I don't want something hanging around my neck and banging on my hips or butt. I would much rather have something around my waist that I don't have to worry about and it's right there. Mine is small and i only carry my cash, change and cards in it - maybe some gum or chapstick.

See that's just it, keep it small and simple. I will have a youngster, so cross-body bag, if not too big, might work great, but I'll have to look into those.

When I went to DL last year I saw a lot of young girls with fanny packs. I was stunned and sent a text to my sister that she actually could be on the verge of "cool."

I know! Wouldn't have believed it either if I didn't see it with my own eyes.

So if I go with a fanny pack I could be considered cool? At 47? That's just, well...cool.

Absolutely not. It ranks up there with white shoes and other horrid fashion items. I have a very small cross body bag that I use for traveling. I holds my phone, money, credit cards, id, passport and other like items. That's all I need.

My kids love fanny packs... for tacky tourist spirit days.

That said I'm all about function and comfort, especially for a day in the theme park, so if a fanny pack worked best for me I'd have no problem wearing one, no matter what anyone else thought.

Oh, and I've never understood why people automatically assume crossbody bags are a more fashionable option. Some of them are sooo unflattering!

That's where we are in life..... all about the function and comfort. I don't care too much about how it looks to someone else. If it works for me/us, I'm in. Same applies to anyone else I see and what they choose to use. I see some people in the parks hauling what looks to be an 80 pound ruck sack. If it works for them, great!

Agree. I don't want to look ridiculous -- but I don't think fanny packs at a theme park qualify for the ridiculous catergory.

Seriously, are people looking at you at WDW? Nope. More people run into you looking at something else. Lol. Too many other things to see. No one is going to be pointing and saying, "can you believe she's wearing a fanny?!?!"

I'm a minimalist in the parks -- the only thing I carry is a credit card in my back pocket. Security really gives me strange looks when I don't have anything for them to inspect. (Full disclosure: DH carries his cell phone and room key, and our park tickets, so I don't have to.)

Vera Bradley makes one, they call it a belt bag so someone somewhere could claim they are "hip".
I wouldn't wear one, I love cross body bags. You can get then in any shape and size to work for your travels.

OP, don't worry about what anyone else thinks, use what you are comfortable using, don't give up your comfort to make the fashion police happy.

Yes, I use one. I thought it would be super dorky, but it was so convenient during our first trip years ago. (Two strollers, everyone's tickets, paper FPs, camera-- just so much easier to have everything where I could just grab it while walking)

Now I don't need it as much. If I'm not wearing it, some days my teen DD will take it to use in the parks if the kids go off on their own. So it can't be that nerdy if my teenager asks to use it.

We got a new puppy, and I actually wear it sometimes when I walk her in my neighborhood. If I'm wearing something with no pockets, it's the easiest way to carry treats and my phone.

I am not a purse person. I carry basically a wallet that has a crossbody strap (if I have no pockets). There is no way I would be comfortable carrying a purse around Disney. I just find a crossbody strap to be annoying (large breasts) and I know I would be super grumpy in the heat. I'm worried about losing things, so a regular purse that I had to carry would be a source of constant stress in the parks.

I know I'm going back a few years with the topic of this thread, but who still takes, and wears, fanny packs in the parks? I mean, you have to have somewhere to put your change, wallet and other things so they don't fall out of your pockets. I took one the few times I went to Disney World and, while I wouldn't wear one, and don't wear one, on a daily basis, I loved wearing it in the parks because I didn't have to worry about my change or anything because I knew where everything was, not to mention not having to worry about anything falling out while on rides. So, who's willing to admit they still do this? Ok, this thread is more for finding out what people do today than anything.

I still like to use a fanny pack in the park. It's small enough to carry what I need, but not big enough for everyone else to ask me to carry their stuff, too. My hands are free and I don't have anything on my shoulder, which can get annoying even with a cross body bag or a small backpack.

This is how I feel, but I haven't seen a fanny pack around in ages, so I had to ask. Come to think of it, I'm not don't I've seen one in and around the tourist spots here in Boston.

I think most people look somewhat nerdy/ridiculous on vacation. In fact, I think vacation, especially the parks, is one place you can get away with such things.

The last time I went I was a minimalist. I carried my fanny pack and a camera, and that's it.

My DD is a college student. She went with a large group of kids to a three day concert on the beach. They were in bathing suits the entire time and they weren't allowed to bring in bags. Imagine my surprise when the pictures showed almost all of them wearing fanny packs! I laughed so hard. I sent her a text and asked what was with the dorky packs and and she sent back, "Hey! We look cool!"

I have a "waist pack" by LeSportsac which has a slightly different design than a traditional fanny pack. I tried wearing it on our last trip and found it uncomfortable. It was in the way when I sat down to eat, and sometimes when I sat in a ride vehicle that had lap bars, etc. I switched back to my cross-body bag and found it easier and more comfortable for me.

I carry a convertible Baggallini on vacation. The strap can be repositioned quickly to make it a purse or a fanny pack. -

Yes! I think Fanny Packs are actually making a bit of a comeback, but redesigned from the horrible bulky ones of my childhood. Victoria's Secret sells one. So does Kate Spade ;p Buzzfeed has a whole list of stylish versions. They are now called Belt Bags -- much better name . . .
