Fanny Pack Faux Pas

Still waiting on the Larger version of my Wallett Bagg. Hope to get it today!;) I know this will be a LOT better than the "bum bag."::yes::

I wear my fanny pack (I actually call it a Rutzky Bag) with pride while at WDW, then hang it with pride in my closet until the next trip. I never wear one outside of WDW,

A butt bag is a Disney must for all members going. I am the Mom and if I do not insist, I get to play pack mule for the trip. I refuse. I am no fashion goddess(actually I am the polar opposite). Since I am on a roll, I will tell you that I also wear my butt bag for Christmas shopping. I like my money in front of me and my hands free. All pocketbook using women know that there is nothing more annoying that a pocketbook sliding down your arm while you are looking through racks or carrying purchases. I must confess that I am the type of gal who does not care a fig about what others think. I think this helps me in life a great deal.

I wear a fanny pack, as do my parents. My brother never wears them, though, but then again he does wear these shorts with HUGE pockets in them. Someone also wears a backpack (that just happens to be maroon and have A&M written on it... ;) ) to carry ponchos and waterbottles.

You could always bring the backpack with you on the rides, if there isn't a compartment you can put it in (eg. Mission: Space and Star Tours) then you can put it in front of you and slip your leg through one of the straps.

I wear fanny packs whenever I go to WDW and then when I went to Six Flags New Orleans about 4 weeks ago. Of course, it has Tigger on it, so I got in trouble a couple of times at SF! What's kinda funny is I never really thought about it looking dorky. I've been doing Disney for so long that it's just natural. ::yes::

First trip to the world I had a huge bag carrying all the "essentials". Next trip I took a backpack into the world paring down from the "essentials."

Now I go into the parks with just my media ticket/resort key, sunscreen wipes in small foil envelope, croakies (holds glasses on your neck), clip-on sunglasses, cash and an ultra thin digital camera.

All go into long pocketed shorts. A little bulky in the pocket but so much better than hauling the "essentials".

But I travel solo so I can get away with just the above. Ely

Oh come on people, fanny packs are dead sexy and you all know it!

;) Seriously though, as long as you're comfortable with what you're wearing, who cares what other people think? Fanny packers unite!

Normally I would use a fanny pack, and I even use it at home for shopping, etc. during the summer. Last summer at WDW I started out with the fanny pack, but with the heat, quickly abandoned it for the pockets of my cargo shorts and the lightweight pullstring backpack someone else had mentioned. About the only thing I put in the bag were the ponchos and maybe a comb and other light but bulky soveniers. All money, passes and roomkeys etc. went in the shorts pockets. My DH and I would take turns carrying the camera. This will be our first year with cell phones, so we'll have to see about those. (yes, I know, our DS13 would tell everyone that we were "Amish", that's why we didn't have phones.) Basically we've found that the less you need to carry, the better. I do like fanny packs normally because so have a much smaller chance of leaving them somewhere since they're attached to you, even when sitting down.::yes::

It arrived a few days ago, and I have been "breaking" it in for WDW!;) I am also going to order ANOTHER one, but in BLACK.::yes:: It holds my cell phone, Digital Camera, Money, Credit Cards, Pass, Lipstick, Pen and whatever else I need.::yes::

I use to wear fanny packs, but they aggrivate me. I had to find something that could hold our passes and my digital camera safely, so I found this at e-bags and it works great. I wear it around my neck.

travel wallet

It is only 11.99 and you get free shipping. The only drawback is the only color left is brick.

First trip to WDW, I carried around 100 tons of stuff in a backpack. I had snacks, juice boxes, ponchos, autograph books, 2 water bottles, the cat, the mule, etc.
That trip I think I shrank 2 inches... Boy I learned my lesson fast

Second trip to WDW, I was smart! I bought myself a fanny pack and only packed the essentials. I figured heck if I'm going to give Disney thousands of dollars, I can certainly spend another 6 bucks for a poncho.
That trip I grew back my 2 inches.... Ha..ha..ha..!

Now, the fanny pack is sitting in the closet, waiting for September to come when I'll drag it out, put it in the backpack for the plane ride down, then take it out proudly to show all of Disney World that I, mom of 2 boys and an overgrown boy (DH), am a fanny pack with a lime green mickey head tag wearer.:teeth:

No fanny pack, belly bag or bum bag here!

I found a small zippered bag with a wrist strap and is about the size of a sandwich and it is great! It has Pooh on it, and it came from Wal-mart about 5 or 6 years ago. It doesn't slip off my hand, and doesn't get in the way of anything. I've used it for the last 3 trips to WDW, and will take it again in October.

But - to each his own, and just have fun!

The reason I hate the waist pack is because when you get on a ride you have this big bulge because of it and I end up having to take it off and hold it when there is a lap or overhead bar because it gets in the way. It is more secure though, and I don't fault anyone for wearing one. I am bringing one along and will switch between it and my new neck wallet depending on what we are doing that day.

This is where men are lucky--my DH just has his wallet to worry about, I am the family keeper of the travel supplies.

When everyone is talking fanny packs what size packs are you talking about. The smallish ones like they sell in the park with Mickey or Grumpy on it or the large hiking kind?

These are essential to me. I usually carry them on the side of my hip and put a camera and some other small stuff with it.

I tried backpacks (way too hot and heavy) and shoulder bags (gets tiring and you have to watch it all the time) so the fanny pack is the one for me, its light, cool and you don't have to pay attention to it.

My bottom line is - if it's not attached to me I will forget it. For that reason I use a bum bag (I'm from the UK). Additionally, my husband cannot be trusted. Left him with the kids and a backpack while I went on a ride once. Came back and he'd managed to lose the backpack which has the camera, video camera etc in. Oh well it could have been worse - he could have lost the kids.

I am a nurse and use a backpack at work. I put all my work tools in it from small notebook, phone / pda, stethescope, pens, etc.. I don't notice it until I take it off. I would suggest a fannypack with multiple pockets so that when your pulling out your camera for a quick picture you don't loose your wallet or keys or better yet an Indiana Jones belt clip for your cammera and cammecorder along with your fannypack so you can shoot pictures on the fly while always being fully equiped and prepared for your Disney adventure.

Poohbear23, what kind of bag do you get? Where did you get it? I need to get one for our December trip. I am thinking of letting DD 8y have a small one for her autograph book and snack and DS 11y have his own for the same. My DH can use the same size I get.

Same here...DH and I both wear a fanny pack at WDW and nowhere else...

Belt pack all the way at WDW! I find I can get everything I need for the day in there, including my mickey poncho if I fold it right and squish all the air out. I can be absent-minded sometimes, and have misplaced just about everything I've owned at one time or another, except my Mickey belt bag. I have, strange but true: see absent-minded above, historically been the family "Keeper of the Cash/Tickets" and paranoid about being ripped off or losing my wallet. With everything there in front of me, it can't happen. If it's in the way on a ride, I just slide it over on my hip, and presto! the lap bar fits fine.

However, NOWHERE else. I figure if grown men can wear Goofy hats, I can wear my mouse bag.

:earsgirl:

PS: I have been "whacked" in the head, back, face, stomach, etc- in lines and rides and just walking- far too many times by other people's backpacks to contribute to this terrible epidemic myself- the horror!

I have a small black leather fanny pack that I use at WDW and Las Vegas. I don't overload it, but carry it to keep my tissues, chapstick, park tickets, reading glasses and wallet in. (Las Vegas is the other place in the world that you will see the "uncool" fanny pack!) The water, ponchos, snacks, etc. go in a medium size backpack which the other family members take turns carrying.

I went to NYC recently and just couldn't bring myself to use the fanny pack there, so just made sure I hung onto my purse! LOL!!
