This is our first trip to Disneyland. We are going on a Disney cruise out of LA August 2008 and want to arrive 3 days early to take in Disneyland, DCA, and maybe a tour of Hollywood etc..The cruise is breaking our budget so we need an affordable place to stay, which means off site. I want to stay as close as possible with 4 small children....walking a distance would kill their moods and our day! I got a price quote for the Anaheim Desert Inn for 219.00/night for a family suite. I like that it is across the street from the parks ....but would like to try to get a better rate some how. Does anyone have a better option to stay at or is this a good rate/place and should I take it? What our your experiences with this place or others? Any suggestions for a good CA tour with children? What is the best/inexpensive way to get from the airport to the hotel ?// TIA!!!

Carousel Inn, Tropicanna and BW Park Place Inn all have suites and are right across the road from the main entry. Ring around and go for the best rate, they are all good...

Which airport are you coming in to?

I would try for the BWPPI. I have never been able to make a ressie's for 6 at the others no matter how far in advance.

We stayed at the Anaheim Plaza a couple of years ago. They had GREAT rates (about half of what Desert Inn quoted you)! Their decor wasn't up-to-date (if that bothers you) but the rooms were quite large, CLEAN, and the service was nice. They have a pretty good b-fast buffet where the kids eat free too. Best of all, it's a hop, skip, and a jump from the park!

I called the BWPPI and they do not book this far out. I put in a dummy reservation on my computer for this August same # nights and same days of the week and got a price of 125.00 - 135.00/night just to see what to expect. I did the same for Dessert Inn and got a price of about 150-170/night for a family suite. I dont understand why they quoted me 219.00 for next August over the phone. You think booking early would get you a better price. Anyone know when August 2008 dates are available to book online for these hotels?
I don't know which Airport we will be flying into. We haven't got that far yet. For those who have stayed in these two Hotels which did you like better and why? Can anyone add their personal experiences staying there? TIA!

If you have AAA you can get a discount at Desert Inn and Suites. Keep checking with them and you may find a cheaper rate since they fluctuate. I always reserve first and check monthly for something better.

We stayed there in May/June and the rates were about the same. When I travel on business I stay at the Staybridge Suites. They serve a full breakfast for free, I mean full with eggs, meat. omelets, fruit, etc. You can get a suite pretty cheap but you have to ride the bus to the parks so there's a trade-off.

Check out some reviews and rates on tripadvisor.com to see more deals and advice. Have fun!

We stayed at Portofino last time, and it was extremely clean and nice sized room. It had bunk beds, a double sized sleeper sofa and a king bed. It was a long walk to DL, but it was technically only a block and a half. No free breakfast though, but I was impressed with the cleanliness and room- I think we got it for about $150 a night doing expedia sort of last minute (we made a reservation with AAA discount, and then kept watching expedia and jumped on it when the price went down about a week out).
