I'm thinking of doing this with my family, building up the excitement for our Sept trip, and also to introduce my young kids to Disney that they have never been exposed to. I'm talking about classics and movies that were out before they were born (Mary Poppins, Little Mermaid, Dumbo, Love Bug, Lady & the Tramp...etc).

Each week we'll pull a movie out of a hat, & go rent it, have popcorn, etc. Has anyone else done this? Should we do this together at the DisBoards?? Or has this been done before?

Let me know if anyone is interested and I'll post "our pick" for this Friday night!!

:cool1:

I did exactly the same! My children were not very familiar with the Disney classic characters, such as Donald, Mickey, Chip & Dale,e tc.

We really enjoyed seeing some different movies, and they were 'prepared' for Disney World!

We do the same also - for the first couple of months of Operation Countdown to Disney, every Saturday is Disney Saturday movie night (which is tradition anyway in our house) and then the past month, it has been a Disney movie every night to build up even more excitement (not that we need it thats for sure! princess:)

Hope you enjoy it, as well! Let us know how it turns out for you!

Okay, so.... can anyone list the best movies we should pick? Here's my list so far but I know I'm forgetting some (like the above mentioned Chip & Dale).

All the ones in my OP plus:
Peter Pan, Pinnochio, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White & 7 Dwarves, Aristocats??, Jungle Book, A Bugs Life, Honey I shrunk the Kids.....

Sounds like a great idea! I will have to join in closer to our trip.

I seem to remember a thread on this last year. Let me see if I can find it. It had a great list...

Just make sure your kids are old / mature enough to watch the films.

Before our trip, I tried to "prepare" my almost 3 yo by showing selected scenes from selected movies. Worked great for "Heigh ho" and "Someday my prince will come", but then I wanted to try to prepare her for Snow White's Scary Adventures, and let her see some of the scarier scenes.

Well, 2 months later, she's willing to let me turn the TV on again, and she still gets nervous when she sees me with a DVD.

Another idea for picking movies is to look at theme park maps of attractions, and pick out the movies that are represented there.

Don't forget Alice in Wonderland (that's tonights movie for us)- always loved that one!! Tommorow night will be a marathon since we are leaving Friday morning early, of Oliver and Company, Lady and the Tramp & The Aristocats. Last night we watched 102 Dalmations, 101 Dalmations on Monday, Toy Story 1&2 over the weekend, Last Friday Mulan, Last Thursday Pochahontas, Last Wednesday Haunted Mansion, Last Tuesday Cheetah Girls, Last Monday Lizzie McGuire Movie.

Oh and in between the movies - my dd has me taping shows on the Disney channel (especially House of Mouse!) and listening to Radio Disney - the list goes on and on... I think I am officially Disney movie'd out ::MinnieMo LOL ::MickeyMo

Don't forget Aladdin! They'll be excited to meet Aladdin and Jasmine in Morocco or at a princess breakfast and will really enjoy the Magic Carpet ride! For anyone with little boys especially, watch the Disney King Arthur movie - at Magic Kingdom you can try to pull the sword from the stone near Cinderella's Carousel.

DD loves to watch the DVDs of Classic Disney cartoon characters- there's Mickey, Donald, Chip 'n Dale, and Goofy. We got these DVDs at Target. She also loves to watch the planning DVDs- we have the 2004 and 2005 editions. They show lots of the rides, shows, restaurants, and resort hotels.

She also loves Mary Poppins, Parent Trap (Lindsay Lohan version), Snow White, Sleeping Beauty- heck, she's a sucker for just about everything Disney (just like her Mom)! :wizard:

I love this idea! We did it before our last trip this past Ocotber and we have been doing it again for our upcoming trip. We have always had family movie night we just watch more disney movies when we have a trip coming up.

Swiss Family Robinson and they will know why the tree house is there!!!! I am going to get this for my Grandkids to watch.

Don't forget Beauty and The Beast. The only problem we had with our grandneice was after she watched Mary Poppins and Beaty and The Beast thats all she wanted to watch.lol I fianally got smart and ended up buying those two movies and she still watches them everyday. :flower:

Don't forget some of the older Disney movies that really have nothing to do with Disneyworld exactly, but still are filled with general Disney magic and fun: Pete's Dragon, Blackbeard's Ghost, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Rescuers, and Sword & the Stone were some of our favorites. When our kids were little (oh, how long ago!) every Sunday night was "Pizza and a Movie Night". Less than a month ago my 14 year old DS said, "remember how much fun Pizza and a Movie Night was?" Sounds like we need to resurrect it!

Some of my great childhood memories involve the Disney Sunday Movie. Remember when every Sunday, Disney would show a movie? Well, we would make homemade popcorn and watch it together.

Pete's Dragon
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Escape to Witch Mountain
Not Quite Human
Pollyanna
Sword in the Stone
The Rescuers
The Rescuers Down Under
The Love Bug
Beauty and the Beast (my favorite)
The Little Mermaid
Mary Poppins
101 Dalmations
The Jungle Book
Peter Pan
The Aristocats
Flight of the Navigator
The Absent-Minded Professor aka Blubber
The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh
Honey, I Shrunk The Kids
The Great Mouse Detective
Tarzan
Pocahontas
Remember the Titans (older kids)
Perfect Harmony (older kids)
