Falmouth Jamaica Advice

We did a beach break there with a resort and they had a nice kids area with slides and a kids pool. It was perfect as we could relax while the kids had a blast:)

i've heard that, no kidding, Margaritaville in the cruise port has a really great pool, etc. there's food, and it's safe. we're traveling in Oct 2017 and are thinking we'll probably spend our Jamaica day right there... do some shopping, parents can have a couple drinks and sit by the pool, and our princess-fish-daughter can swim and enjoy the party.

This was exactly what I was going to suggest. We were there a few weeks ago and the pool area looked pretty nice, though it was a bit crowded by the time we got there.

It's been over a year ago, Sept 2015, when I spent a short amount of time there, but the pool was full of smokers and the neat margarita hot tub was out of commission. We sat a table near the bar and had a (expensive) drink after our other excursion for the day, but I was scoping it out for a later cruise. We skipped it on the later cruise! Did a pre-arranged ride via Jaital tours to Doctor's Cave Beach in Montego Bay instead, and that's what I'll be doing again when I go back next month.

In April 2015 we did Jewel Resorts Runaway Bay thru Resort for a Day. The price was quite reasonable, was all-inclusive, and included their water park. My kids were 10, 10, and 7 at the time. We all loved it and I found the Resort for a Day staff who got us there and back to be terrific. The drive was maybe a half hour or so if I recall correctly, and we learned a lot about the areas of Jamaica we drove through on the drive. The facilities at the resort were very nice and the beach was gorgeous. We even paid a little extra to rent a cabana at the water park which was not too expensive at all; my kids got a kick out of that, we all enjoyed the personalized service and it was nice to have a place to put our bags, etc. Agree that there wasn't a lot offered through Disney in Falmouth that was either suitable or allowable for my youngest.

We've stopped at Falmouth a couple of times now. We treat it pretty much as just another sea day. We do get off to do a little shopping in the fenced in area right there, but are usually back on board within an hour. Its often a good day to schedule a spa service for the adults.

Just a note: The security/scanning folks at Falmouth (not the Disney folks. The locals who worked in security at the scanners before you walk to the boat.) were more surly than TSA on a power trip while having a bad day. They were the most unfriendly folks I've encountered on any cruise. Maybe they were having a bad day, but they acted like they were having a bad decade. Just unfriendly as can be. Even my wife mentioned it, and she usually rolls with whatever goes on.

Hmmm, that was not my experience when we stopped there earlier this month. We went through without a scowl on our return to the ship.

We did the tranopy tour that included bobsled and zipline. It was lots of fun and your 6 year old can do it. For the bobsled, your DS and ride with you or your DH. Zipline, she can do it on her own. We did it through DCL and the tour guide was great. The only thing that was not good was the lunch that was provided. So have a big breakfast and skip the lunch. Eat when you get back onboard.

Has anyone done Martha Brae Rafting recently? I am looking for alternatives to Dunns River Falls because of the relatively long ride. We are really not a beach family. TIA.

We did it on our last cruise and really enjoyed it - the kids were even able to guide the rafts for awhile. It was relaxing and a very short ride from the port.

It's been a few years but we did a private tour - my kids were 4 and 9 at the time. We went to the Blue Hole and had lunch at a local restaurant. We all had a great time!

Thanks. Did you book through DCL? Do you remember how many people were allowed on each raft?

Do you remember which operator you used?

We booked through DCL. The rafts hold 2 people, however, I think they would let a small child go with 2 adults.

This was about 3 years ago... the tour guide was Lindsay McFarlane with SNL Jamaican Tours. When we were at the Blue Hole, the guide (Omar) was fantastic with our kids - especially my 4 year old. Omar did the rope swing into the water with him since he was a bit nervous. After that first swing, my son LOVED it and was good swinging on his own. As we hiked, he carried my 4 year old on his shoulders and told him about the surroundings. My kids still talk about Omar and the Blue Hole.
