Ive been reading through the free dining rumour thread but am wondering if there is any chance of a Room Discount? Hoping to stay at a Port Orleans (or maybe better??) end of October, I doubt ill have free dining as an option but was kind of hoping for a good room discount (especially since the Canadian Dollar is so weak).

Thanks!

Usually there is a room discount during that time but of course no guarantees.

Waiting patiently for release of discounted room rates...Booked Port Orleans - Riverside 10/14/17 - 10/21/17!!

This is posted as a rumor on the free dining thread regarding the Brazilian offer which has, in the past, been very close to the US offer. I believe the OP has a connection with the TA:

Some quick news about the RO discount! For Brazilian TAs the RO discount will only offer RO from selected nights from August 1st to October 7th. No RO discounts for either November or December is part of the current promotion. INCLUDED hotels are: BC, YC, WL, Contemporary, AKL, Boardwalk, AKL Villas, BCVillas, Boardwalk Villas, Poly Villas, Saratoga, Boulder Ridge Villas. No other hotel is included.

The wording for the brazilian Free Dining offer is indeed OR. You'll need either a 4 day Park Hopper OR a 4 Day Park Hopper Plus.

POR is included on reservations starting till September 30th for FD. No POR for November or December.

Isn't it kinda of messed up that we're always waiting for discounts to be released?

Like why not just price the rooms correctly in the first place.

My guess is two reasons:

1) They do find a few suckers to pay "Rack rate".

2) Human psychology. Give them 25% off and they think it's a great deal, even if it's still 25% over priced....LOL!!

Some retailer (JC Penney or Sears maybe?) learned that lesson. They tried to do the "we are charging the correct price for these items!" and it didn't fly. People love coupons and %off deals more. I don't like that pop is $129 a night midweek in October but I don't want to stay at a Port Orleans either. I kinda wish I had booked before CBR stopped their gift card deal. But, I snoozed, I lost. Now I sit hoping bookings are soft enough to upgrade to WL/AKL at a decent rate again.

It was Penneys. The problem with their idea was they were selling stuff you could get at other places for cheaper.

True, that doesn't help anything either. Plus a lot of younger people don't even have those stores on their radar either.
But at the time several articles were written about the psychology of it. I find it really interesting because I'm not big on price haggling. But WDW knows some people will pay ~130 a night for a value room, for example.

Ugh, it didn't keep my last part of my comment. Nobody wants to feel like they paid full price so the percentage off is so comforting.

CBR stopped the gift card deal?? Well that is terrible.

You're right, but there's a little more to it than that. People have a perceived value. For example: CBR was $160 avg a night for my dates, but I don't believe it worth $160/night. Now, you could give me 20% off and that doesn't mean I am going to book until you reach a number that has my perceived value and that goes for any percentage, discount, etc. So 20% off gives me an approx. charge of $128/night. Well, it's better, but does it meet my perceived value? For me, it would and I would probably book. For someone else, however, it might not. Now, you gave me a hard discount of $75/night off a $160/night room making my room a perceived value of $85/night... well I couldn't click book fast enough.

Yes very true. That perceived value really gets upended on site at WDW. And even moreso if you're a first time visitor and you can't correlate CBR with a "real world" alternative like Hyatt, Hilton, etc. But there's always those people who will "get it on sale" and feel happy about it, even if it was never worth that sale price in the first place. That's just another issue though, good discussion. I love talking about these little personal economics, its so different for everyone.

Nothing at all for the end of October?!

Seems like there are deals for every week except the one that that I'll be there!

:worried:

Yes I love a good psychology in economics discussion with logical, rational people who can accept and evaluate diffferent points of view :)
