Fall 2016 planning (continuation of 2016 Free Dining Watch)

I love figment!! Now I have that song stuck in my head.:)

Sorry.:P. I thought I would be nice and pass the Figment love along. :flower3:

We had to purchase the Disney Official Album and listen to Imagination on the ride home!!!

OMG! That is true Mommy love in action right there!!!! Since we may :car: from TX it would be ok for the first five hours or so. After that I would have to hide the CD!:rolleyes1

Alright y'all, I need your help. I tried talking to my husband about it last night but he is just not a planner and honestly doesn't care when we go. He's just along for the ride.
So, if you remember I (and several people on this board) worked my butt off and lost a lot of sleep to get free dining. Yay! But if you also remember, I work in health care and the state comes in to do a survey annually. The window started in April and is open until January. There's no real way of knowing when they will show aside from guessing based on other places and when they get their visit. So far it's been 11 months (which would mean they would come this month, yay!) All the way to 15 months (which would mean they would come late October). So far a lot more places are getting visited around 15 months which is making me sad. Disney has a great cancellation policy so I'm holding out hope they will come.

However, for ADRs and such I would like to have a backup plan. Since at this point we are pretty sure they'll be here in October at the latest, we could plan on November for a backup. However that means no free dining (not offered the week in Nov we could go) and the kids would miss a whole week of school. Currently we are going during fall break.

Not having free dining would mean we have to cut costs elsewhere. Either stay off site or cut a day or two off and definitely no Christmas party. Boooooo

So the other option is January the week of MLK weekend. Which is one less day they have to miss school and probably better RO discounts and less crowded but also soooooo far away!!!! lol

So, what would you do? I'm definitely holding out hope we will be able to go in October still but I'm a planner and want to know our backup plan!

Is there a RO for November when you can go?
We have gone in January/February three times. One year it was freezing! 2 years it was to cold to go in the pool but that was 13 years ago. In 2012 we went end of January through early feb and we swam almost every day. And the weather was beautiful.
But it is so far away! I was rethinking my trip this morning but I just can't go any other time this year. And I really want to see it for Halloween. My girls are going to miss 7 days of school. I have taken them out for every trip to Disney and they have never had a problem getting homework done or catching up when they get back.
I always like to have a back up plan too!

The only other downside to November would be that 180 days has come and gone and I have such amazing ADRs! lol but I'll look into November RO discounts to see.

If we have to stay off site do y'all have anywhere you'd recommend? I would love to see it decked out for Christmas but Halloween is still my first choice.

I also work in health care (hospital) and we also get joint commission every year not knowing when they will show up... But in my experience unless your upper management it doesn't matter if your on vacation that week it just means you lucked out. I have been on vacation several times during their visit as i have been in health care for 16 years. Good luck!

I'm a department head so we aren't allowed to take vacation on Mondays or Tuesdays during our window and we have to be in the building if they come unless we are in the hospital or dead lol

I love WDW during the fall/halloween season, but we've also been there in November. I thought the weather in November was perfect during the day, warm, could swim, but the evenings got VERY chilly to downright cold.

I say make November ADR's, just in case!! It never hurts to have a back up plan!

On another note, I was an RN for 24 years, including 6 years as an OR manager. We were never unable to vacation due to a possibility of Joint Comission visits, as you never know when they will be there. I hope in your case, they show up right on time, so you can take your Halloween vacation!!!

I've been trying to extend our September trip by 3 days (turns out it isn't as easy as adding the days to the current vacation :( blah!)

We currently have 8 days booked with the FD promo. Getting those three extra days is seeming like an impossible feat. I have been checking just about ever hour for a month hoping something opens up for a standard at ANY mod. Now, we are officially 100 days away, and I'm a little tired of stressing about it (but still would love 3 extra days if it's possible). Should I just give up? Thoughts?

Maybe you could get an RO discount for those 3 days and pay for food just for those days?

I have been trying to add 1 day with FD with no luck but I did get a RO for the 1 day. I still check every other day or so for the FD but I'm happy with the RO.

I hope everyone's day went well!! I have a feeling if you book room only nights, more availability may show up soon!! It seems like there are often cancellations around the 90 day Mark for some reason. Good luck y'all!!

Tough choice. November has the great holiday atmosphere. January has the lower crowds. I'd lean ever so slightly towards November, but I like January trips.

As for offsite, would you have a car? Do you want a hotel (smaller room, has a maid) or a condo/house (lots of space, less amenities)?

Thanks. I'm going to try that. The hype of FD made me forget about RO.

My feeling is, it would be rare to get a standard room at any mod for FD at this point. You may get a more expensive room category at a mod, but the cost probably wouldn't be worth it, so I agree with others that a room only with a discount is probably the way to go.

Caribbean has a pool view from 13/17 sept, not sure if that helps?

Hi all, I haven't been on here in a while. in case anyone is interested I just modified my reservation for yacht club August 27-September 2 with fd from garden view to standard view. This is the first time I saw fd offered for standard view. I wonder why it is available now? Any thoughts?

After further investigation. I was able to find contemporary garden view with fd for the same price as Yc garden view with fd. What would you do? We have been to the bc/Yc many times and LOVE sab, but we never stayed at the contemporary? Don't know what to do.
