Fall 2016 planning (continuation of 2016 Free Dining Watch)

thanks for the tips on changing FP+, I tweaked several last night and they are now closer together. Did not touch the EPCOT ones but want to Rope Drop Soarin so no reason to make any changes. Now most of the FP+s are close together in case we can try for more than 3FPs.

only day I am not sure of is AK day. Plan to Rope Drop EE, 10:30ADR at Tusker House, 12:40 Kali, KS at 3:45 and EE again at 5PM; kids want to ride it at night. one will have to be cancelled if ROL is ready when we are there in mid November.

Do not trust those cute fridge magnets that tell you when to book FP+, LOL! Mine said I could book my FP+ starting September 15. There was a problem with Bell internet this morning and the whole neighbourhood had no internet until 1:55pm. When it finally started working I went online to do a trial run and realized the magnet from Disney was wrong and my FP+ was this morning! I got really lucky and was still able to get everything! They had tons of availability for FEA and 7DMT and everything else we wanted. I think because our package starts the day before FD we had no problems. I am so happy I logged on for a trial run today or I would have been trying to book tomorrow morning with the start of the FD crowd! I am usually more prepared and check MDE weeks before to be certain of our FP+ booking date but have been so busy with the end of summer and beginning of school I just kept checking the date on my cute (but wrong) Disney Reminder fridge magnet.:scared: I guess it worked out okay because I would have been really stressed this morning trying to make our FP+ with the internet not working! FYI if anyone is booking tomorrow there is still lots of availability!:)

It's a good thing you decided to check today. What a relief that you didn't have to stress about making FP this morning while your internet was down and you were able to book your FP selections with no problems. :)

Thank-you I got really lucky.:) I had such a hard time getting ADR's and FP+ last year because we had FD at CBR that I was grateful to not have to stress as much this year. I do miss FD because it does save us money but I turned 40 this year and wanted POR!:teeth:
My girls aren't even Frozen fans anymore, but youngest really wanted to ride FEA. If only I hadn't shown her that youtube video. :sad2:
I did the same thing with the new Elsa and Anna M&G. I wanted to see what Sommerhus looked like so we watched the youtube video on it and now we have to meet Anna and Elsa again, LOL.

so glad you figured out the correct day and got everything you wanted. It is SUCH a relief!
I think you could be right about the November FD people not being able to book until tomorrow.

did the magnet come from Disney? My TA did e-mail me on Sunday to remind me.

Thank-you, I agree it is such a relief to be done. The only thing I want to change now is moving my dinner reservation at WC 1 hour later so it won't be such a rush after 7DMT. Yes the magnet was from Disney. It was on the back page of the INCREDIBLE vacation book we got from Disney that has our package confirmation number and info about our resort etc. It was on the last page and it was the "Your important days to remember". It has a picture of Dumbo at the top. I know some people got a magnet and others it was just the last page of the book. I am looking at it right now and it says "September 15 begin selecting your Disney FastPass+ experiences." They had the ADR date right so I guess maybe it was just a typo or miscalculation? My MDE page had the right date, so next time I will remember to just keep checking that page.:)

we did not get those goodies as got a great deal from a TA.
we only have 4 ADRs (2 BOG) and 2 TS. we have the QSDP this trip and am kind of looking forward to the freedom of eating when we want rather than when I decided 6 months before that we would

We stayed at POR two years ago for my 40th birthday too!!! You can pick up a birthday button in the lobby and keep the celebration going!! Happy belated birthday!!! :cake:

Thank-you! It seems like POR and Disney is the place to go when you turn 40.:teeth: We couldn't go for my actual birthday but that's okay because I love going to Disney in the Fall. Knowing that Christmas is coming up after my trip ends helps me get over the trips over blues.:)

Interesting! I wonder if there was a mixup or something. I was supposed to be able to book today for 11/15, but it allowed me to book yesterday as well. However, it wouldn't let me book my in-laws, but I was able to add them on today. We got everything we wanted except for FEA. We're only going to Epcot 1 morning, and at 62 days out they only had FP+ for 5pm and later. We're going to wait in the line, I guess! We probably won't be there at RD, though, since we'll be out kinda late the night before and have two littles.

Same here! It was letting me book 60 days from my RO reservation.:) Now I know it wasn't just me, lol!

Wait, you mean you were able to book your fastpasses 60 days before your RO reservation even though your tickets are attached to a package that begins a day or more later? Just checking, because I have a RO reservation for 2 nights before my package begins.

I have a RO for the day before my package starts and I was able to book FP+for the entire length of my package on 60 days from my RO day not 60 days from the start of my package. I could not book FP+ for my RO day because the tickets are not connected to my package. I see at least 2 other people on the DIS that this just happened to as well. It is letting us book FP+ from the 60 day mark of our RO, not 60 days from the start of the package that it usually is. :)

Oh how I hope this glitch continues!!! That would be fantastic!

It's been happening since at least Wednesday. I even got an email from Disney telling me to make my FP+ on the 60 day of my RO. Usually I don't like Disney system glitches but this one was a good one.:D Good Luck I hope it continues for you!

Okay, I'm on my last park day (2 days before I leave) and thought these were some points I should pass along. We call this "three up, three down" at my job, so don't think that the bads are equaling the goods. It's been a fantastic trip, this is just a way to highlight some areas of improvement. I'm planning to write a full trip report later that will include glowing reports of 99% of my trip.

Good:
- the crowds are as low as I expected, and lower than what everybody seems to fear. I'll post pictures in my trip report, but I'm pretty sure my longest wait so far has been less than 30 minutes, including FEA which I did not have a FP+ for. I've actually had to search for things to do a couple of times because as a solo traveler, I have been moving FAST and getting through my plans much quicker than I expected.
- I love that you can make new FP+ reservations once you've used your first three. While it hasn't been strictly necessary due to low crowds, it is pretty cool and I imagine it would be super helpful when there are larger crowds.
- the dishes at F&W fest seem much larger than I remember, and the quality has been pretty good. My appetite has been lower than I expected (probably due to heat) so I've typically been eating two dishes per meal. In 2014 I had to eat 3-4 per meal to feel full.

Less good:
- I just got out of the Frozen Sing Along. Since I last went to this, the amount of soap "snow" at the end has increased dramatically and I happened to be right under one of the dispensers. Everybody around me was getting covered in the stuff. It left my hair kind of sticky and stiff afterward. I think it would have been fine if we weren't under what appeared to be a defective dispenser.
- the first 5 days of my trip, getting a full size cup of ice water wasn't an issue. When I went to the Pop QS at the end of day 5, they handed me a small cup (half the normal size). When I asked for a full size cup they said they couldn't give out water in bigger cups, even though I'd been getting bigger cups all along until that point. Since then, it's only been small cups everywhere I go which is worsened by the fact that the last two days have been much warmer. At Animal Kingdom the QS locations were giving out tiny cups - maybe 3 ounces. It was self serve so you could fill up as many times as you wanted, but a 3 oz cup is just ridiculous unless you are staying in the immediate area. It's one gulp.
- the vast majority of CMs I've encountered have been on the scale somewhere between "having a normal day" and "it's a magical day to be alive!" But two CMs were downright surly for no apparent reason. I don't know if they encountered difficult guests shortly before I arrived, but both times the look and attitude I received felt like they were hating life. Considering I saw two CMs maintain their cool and their smile when dealing with some rather rude guests, these two definitely stuck out. Like I said, most of the CMs were fantastic so these two were notable for their uniqueness, not for being the standard.

Finally, something to consider (if it's still available during your trip) is the souvenir popcorn bucket. Right now they have a deal going on where you buy the bucket for $10, then refills are $1.50 for THE LENGTH OF YOUR STAY, AT ANY POPCORN STAND IN WDW. I didn't see this until several days into my trip but if I had, I would have bought one upon arrival. That's a great deal if you like popcorn. It's only the normal buckets though, not the fancy ones. And I don't think you can get the specialty popcorn, just the regular. But still, a fantastic deal.

Thank-you so much for the update, I love hearing how people's trips are going.:) I am looking forward to reading your trip report! Thank-you so much for letting us know about the popcorn deal! I hope it is still on when we go in November because my 3 kiddos can devour a bucket pretty quickly (I may help with that, lol). Have a fun last park day!

We leave in the morning and I am so excited, glad you have had a great trip! pixiedust::yay:

Well, first day and it rained like you wouldn't believe, I have never felt so cold. Why does Disney insist on cooling all inside areas so much, not great when you are waterlogged. We did end up buying the Disney ponchos which were a bit of a savoir as they are a much better quality than the cheap $2.00 shop ones. Hoping for a better day tomorrow.
That was our NSSHP and it was not fun. Walking through standing water up to our ankles. A five minute show, couldn't see the fireworks because they were low behind the castle, most of the rides were down, nor did any of the characters emerge till after ten. No fun, but yeah I got sick from being hot and wet then walking into a blast chiller. Hoping the trip in Jan will be better. But I still did do my bounce back.
