Fake Tiffany VENT

This is what I'm thinking. How is it bragging to say "I have a Tiffany's bracelet," but not to to say, "I've been to Disney and stayed at the Grand Floridian?" In both cases, the names of the jewelry and the hotel are unnecessary. You could simply say, "I have a bracelet," and "I went to Disney." The same status is implied by mentioning the hotel name as by mentioning the brand of bracelet. Both are mentioned to indicate a level of money spent. If one is bragging, the other must be as well.

I don't think it's as simple as that. The context and tone of the post play a part.

You're right; I miss typed. I should not have said everyone is judging her for her purchases. It does seem, though, that a lot of posters think the OP should either be happy buying lower end items at full price or high end items at full price and that if she is buying high end items at a discount it says soemthing negative about her; i.e. she's trying to hard to look like she's rich when she's not.

Some people seem to put a lot of meaning into "status" purchases...both those that buy them and those that don't.

Maybe the OP just likes quality. I like Coach bags because I think they are good quality. I only buy them at the Coach outlet because I am frugal. Could I suffice with a bag from Walmart...sure. But, I would rather spend $100 on a Coach that I know will last at least ten years than spend $10 each year for the same time period buying junk from Walmart.

Also, I could afford that same bag at full price from Macy's but if I can save, I feel silly spending the full amount.

I just think it is unfortunate that some posters view things so black and white without any grey.

Hi! I would like to address your post if I may. The OP comes off as a pretentious, arrogant poster. As I stated in my previous post, it's how she wrote the launch post. Louis Vuitton this, Coach that, Tiffany this, this is the only stuff she wears. LOL! Okay. I too shop at Nordstroms (during the sales twice a year and the rack too plus Macys, and Neiman Marcus ONLY when they have their 75 percent off reductions! Then she wants a Louis Vuitton bag for $3k but then she can't afford to go to Disney! :confused3 She sounds like the ultimate braggart;and no one likes a braggart. I think more people like humility. Then she goes on that she has a rich boyfriend that buys her this stuff, and how she ONLY wears high end clothes! REALLY? You really couldn't tell this from her pictures. :confused3 I'm sure a lot of women on these boards can boast about themselves including me but I don't have to, as I'm sure plenty here don't have to. She's coming across as very pretentious, a wanna be? I dont' know. But it's the TUDE that turns people off.

Further, the OP should have had her eh hem magnifying glass with her before she purchased this Tiffany braclet. Why not just go to Tiffany's and buy the real deal for $250.00!?

;) This SO reminds me of one of my SIL's-wear Lane Bryant clothes, shoes from the mall-but every Christmas her wealthy employer gives each woman a Louis Vuitton purse. At a recent gathering she plopped it in the middle of the dining room table, where we all were gathered, so we could admire it

Seeing as how this is mainly a Disney board and not a community board, I think it's pertinent info to list the hotel you've stayed at and when you've traveled. I've never been to WDW in January. When I glance at someone's sig and see that they have, I sometimes send them a PM asking very specific questions that may get pushed down and lost on the boards.

Likewise, if I see that someone has stayed at a hotel I'd like to try, I send them a PM to see how they liked it.

As for the whole bragging and bracelet drama, I don't care. OP, as long as I don't see you walking around naked, I don't care what you wear, how much it costs, if it's real, if it's fake, or whether or not you're a snob.

Wow, you guys sure are nasty this morning. Isn't there some rule about taking Sunday's off. The OP didn't come here for a psych evaluation, do you guys really have nothing better to do that pick her apart, searching for past posts etc. Its the last weekend of the summer, maybe some of you need to get a hobby.

:thumbsup2

Yup, this is exactly why I list our trips as well. I am very private, and don't list many personal details at all, except our trips and the fact that I'm DVC, as it helps people. We've stayed at almost all resorts, and so I've had people PM many times asking for info on the different resorts as it's great for comparison between the resorts themselves, room sizes, restaurants, etc.

It's not a brag at all, as my trips shouldn't be relevant to anyone else, except in a helpful manner, like to help with dates of trips (helps with seasons and holidays), review of resorts, crowds at parks, etc.

In my opinion, this is different than how the original post was presented, but it's still not relevent to me, nor is it my business as to how the OP spends her money or what she wears.

HI Tiger!

I agree, people that post about there travels to Disney and what hotels they stay in are NOT a braggart. This is a Disney board right? I'm like you if I see a person that has the resort signature on their post, I will ask them about details about it on this forum or PM them to ask them . Not presumptious at all, not in the least.

I agree that this is one of those buyer beware situations. There is no way to prove that the fake bracelet is the bracelet that was purchased. I think that the OP is pretty much SOL. Take it as a learning experience - pay closer attention when purchasing second hand. Never take someone's word for it.

As for bragging...meh, I didn't take it as bragging. Maybe it's because my first reaction was "Wow, the OP wastes a lot of money," and I don't find wasteful spending to be a reason to brag. At the end of the day, however, it's her money to spend. I don't care what she wears. When people do name drop, that's usually my first reaction. I know that people are proud of the expensive name brands that they purchase, but I just shake my head.

Unless it's a piece that actually has Tiffany written on it quite visibly, I wouldn't be able to recognize a Tiffany piece vs. a Wal-Mart jewelry piece (nor do I think most would). I definitely wouldn't recognize it as a fake. As for the LV handbags, I typically assume most (in my town, at least) are carrying fakes. Seriously, who in their right mind would drop $3K on a purse? I know doctors and lawyers who wouldn't drop that on a purse. Once again, unless someone is just inspecting it up close, I don't think most would know.

And unless you're buying a leather bag Coach is no where near one of the "finer things in life."

Coach is the designer bag for poor women. If you want to carry a status symbol, save for a Prada. Or better yet, a Chanel.

To the OP, if the store claimed the Tiffany was authentic and it turned out not to be, I'd be pissed and let them know.

Well said ----

Cant begin to imagine wasting $3K on a purse? Really --- what does it do that a $50 purse doesnt do? Does it come with money it? A person to carry it for you and drive it around? I'll admit I'm a guy so maybe it's just "one of those things" that I didn't even know was out there....but am very happy to be married to a women that has NO interest in wasting money on crazy priced things like that.

BTW -- also like you screen name!

eh, I don't list my trips or the crap I own.

And I thought DebIreland's post was funny too. ;)

It's kind of like on the budget board when somebody blurts out a bunch of verbal diarrhea on how they personally have no debt and make $200,000 a year as a response to a post somebody else makes on how they've just lost their job and can't afford the cable bill anymore. You have every right to post all the ego fluffing details you want but don't be surprised when other people think you're an obnoxious twit after you do it.

Dear god OP, what a horrific plight. I can't imagine the sheer horror that each waking moment brings for you right now. I thought I'd seen and heard it all, what with wars, terrorism, diseases, crime, abuse etc. But fake Tiffany jewellery? I feel physically sick. May God bless you and grant you the strength to get through this.

I understand what you're trying to say but if we applied this criteria to all posts here on the DIS, there would be very little posts left. This post is not any more trivial than most of the others you see here on a daily basis.

:confused3 I assure you, poor women dont carry designer bags:confused:

On a different thread (specifically about Coach bags) someone who works with women on public assistance said they all carry Coach.

I agree. I list my Disney stays in my sig here. On an Apple-related board, I list my Apple products in my sig. On a Honda-related board, I list my car's specs. If I were posting on a fashion board, I'd list bags. It's context. I'm not going to say the OP was bragging, but I do disagree that listing Disney stays is the same as listing any other costly items on this board.

As for the LV handbags, I typically assume most (in my town, at least) are carrying fakes.

LOL! Me too!

OP. . .it seems to be a trend that you like to jump to conclusions and then be the "victim". You have choices. Why should the shop owner take your word for it? Take the bracelet to Tiffany or a reputable jewler and have it authenticated or not. Maybe it's real and has been repaired, like a PP said. Then go from there. If it is fake and you paid based on it being real. . .make your case. But until you know for sure. . .eh. You do have options.

The store return policy clearly states that the GUARANTEES their merchandise is authentic. How I found out was I went to the tiffany website looked up my item and there is a small difference in how the clasp is attached to the bracelet and Tiffany makes each and every one of their pieces exact. I put mine under a magnifying glass and it's a fake.

I called her within an hour and we agreed to meet Monday she is not open today.

I can say this over and over it's the only way they can sell this type of stuff is is they have to guarantee that it's real.

Some of the responses have been really interesting. thanks for such entertainment. I am off to spend my day probably wearing something that would horrify some of you :goodvibes

Is it just possible that this bracelet is indeed the real deal but at some point was repaired - most likely by a non-Tiffany jeweler and this is why the clasp is attached differently? I could very easily see this happening.
