I have two hotels booked and I need to cancel one. I am looking for a nice room that is close to the parks.

1. Anaheim Fairfield Inn--booked Disneyland view
2. Ramada Inn Maingate--new room
3. Howard Johnson--freeway view building 1

Thank you for helping me pick. It will be me, dh, and two ds (12 & 16).

We have stayed at the Ramada before- in one of the old rooms. We plan on staying again in October in a new room. The pool and proximity was the deciding factor- the pool is saline, not chlorine- so easy on the eyes, and it is more refreshing. And you can't get much closer, lol!:goodvibes

We have stayed at the Fairfield twice now. It's very clean and very close to the parks. Plus, there's a Millie's and a McDonald's in the parking lot of the hotel!

Ramada free parking Fairfield no,
Ramada free breakfast Fairfield no,
Ramada closer, you also walk past 3 restaurants on the way to from the parks.

Ramada view of the park, not really, Fairfield in some rooms.

We actually just booked the Ramada today. We were able to get a good Internet rate on their newly renovated premium rooms. For us the 2 big deciding factors were the distance to the parks, as I will be 7 months pregnant during our trip, and the continental breakfast. We don't eat much in the mornings, but do need a little something.

I can recommend the premium rooms at the Ramada - we had a great 14 day stay there last Sept/Oct .

Great pool , Great Staff , unbeatable location , free parking , free breakfast ( a bit bland but fills you up) , very quiet etc etc

Definitley make sure you have the premium room tho

I saw you added HoJo to your title. If they had the ent/AP rate on my dates I wouldn't hesitate going there instead. The walk is a bit longer and there is no breakfast of any sort, but when they have the low rates you can't beat it. I also love the water play area for the kids. Unfortunately, not only do they not have the special rate for our dates, but they are also completely booked. So Ramada it is.

Fairfield is definitely nicer than the old Ramada rooms (I haven't stayed in any of the new "premium" rooms). But Ramada is just so much closer than the Fairfield & Howard Johnson. Okay, maybe only 100 feet (really I don't know the exact distance difference) but the difference at the end of the day with aching feet was huge. I do love Mimi's which is closer to Fairfield & Howard Johnson, but we also love Tony Roma's which is right in front of the Ramada.

Ramada also has free continental breakfast & free wi-fi in the rooms. Not sure about Fairfield, last time we stayed there it was free wi-fi but only in the lobby. (Important for those Disboards & facebook users!) We've also found good size refrigerators & microwaves in the Ramada rooms plus there is a good mini-mart on site at the Ramada.

So when we are on a budget trip (or not traveling with the rest of the family) Ramada is our #1 choice with little/no hesitation!

I would do the Fairfield. I have read good reviews and seen nice photos of the rooms. Since the Ramada has new rooms, I wouldn't mind trying that out either. You can't go wrong w/ renovated rooms.

Egritz hits the nail on the head, the long walk at the end of a long day can be brutal. We've stayed at the Fairfield a couple times & loved it. The walk to the parks in the morning is a breeze, but at the end of the day we all really wished we were staying at the BWPPI!! That is where I think we'll stay next time.

We haven't stayed at the Ramada, so I have no opinion there. But we have stayed at Howard Johnson's and the Fairfield Inn, and IMO there is no comparison. The Fairfield is cleaner, closer and just better all the way around. Howard Johnson's just looked sad and seedy to me.

This is such a hard decision to make without seeing them. I am going to ask the kids this weekend to see what they would perfer.

I am the Assistant GM of the Ramada Maingate at the Park. If you have any questions or concerns that you would like addressed to help with your decision please let me know. I personally know the importance of finding the right hotel that will be the perfect fit you and your family. We would love to be your choice for your stay while visiting Disneyland.

I've been watching this thread too since I've been curious. I have been considering the Ramada Maingate for a quick weekend trip in the fall but haven't been able to match up the tips I've read with the hotel's main website. Have all of this property's rooms been refurbished or just certain ones? What constitutes a premium room? What amenities does a premium room have that a regular room does not have? Also, do any of the rooms have in-room safes?

Well all 3 hotels are very close. Honestly, I've only stayed at the HoJo on your list but it's absolutely our first choice for a non-Disney stay. :) The rooms are great, staff is great and the walk at the end of the day is not that bad....and one of our group has Plantar Facitis (sp, I know I did that wrong lol) so walking is very hard on him, he too prefers the HoJo due to the great Ent Rates. :)

We loved both Hojos and Fairfield but have never stayed at the Ramada..... I am pretty sure the Fairfeild and the Ramada are about the same distance away with Hojos being only a couple mins further..... HJ and FF do not have a free breakfast so if thats a deciding factor there you go but the FF is very nice while we love HJ's it really is the entertainment rate we love most... I may look into Ramada for our upcoming trip as HJ only has 1 of our nites at the ET rate......off to check rates again lol....
Whatever you decide have a great time!!!

After reading a bunch of negative reviews about Fairfield, I think I am crossing that one off the list. At the HoJo we have a highway view and I am afraid that the noise will be too much for us. We live in the country and are not used to a lot of outside noise. I think I am going with the Ramada because we did reserve a newely redone room.

Have stayed at all three properties. Ramada - a long time ago and at that time needed some TLC. FFI was nice and never had any problem while staying there. There was a comment about not knowing if WiFi was in rooms - it is. Stayed at HoJo last time and really enjoyed that property too. Experiencing the entertainment rates made it all the better. As for the distances, Ramada and FFI are about equal. HoJo is a little longer, but if you going to and from the parks only, and not stopping at any of the food/shops on the hotel/motel side of the street, take the short cut - walk to Harbor, cross at Manchester and walk on the DL side of the street and cut through the taxi/bus area to the entrance.
As for HoJo and building 1, that is where we stayed with a DL view. We were at the end of the hall close to the freeway. I kept hearing a constant noise and wondered what was out the door at the end of the hall and it was the freeway - very noisy. Thank goodness for air conditioning. The noise was drowned out by the air conditioner.
If you have any questions about these properties, let me know.

All of our guest rooms are not fully renovated at this time. Our premium rooms are our fully renovated rooms. These are large rooms with two queen beds or one king bed with all new furniture, bedding, linens and soft goods, carpet, paint, lighting, renovated bathrooms, and 32" flat screen TV's. Our premium rooms are on the 2-4th floor of our four-story building and offer a view of the Disneyland Fireworks from the common balcony area in front of your room. All of our rooms offer refrigerator and microwave as well. We do not offer in room safes at this time, however, we do have safety deposit boxes available at the front desk. The premium rooms differ from our standard and deluxe rooms simply due to the renovations and room, bedding size. We are continuing to update and renovate are rooms and will start more rooms after summer. I hope this information has helped guide you to make a decision that will work out best for your family. Please feel free to ask any other questions or you can contact me directly at the property. Thank you for your interest. Jessica
