Eyebrows: I NEVER had them done, and need advice...

I agree that threading is the way to go.

I have super thick black eyebrows on very light skin and have been waxing/plucking/threading since I was in 3rd grade. Honestly, my eyebrows are a defining feature of my face.

My DD is the same way. She started getting her eyebrows threaded at about 10 (before that we used tweezers minimally at home). She did not cry and didn't feel that it really hurt at all.

We live an hour away from anywhere that does threading, so we honestly don't have the time to have it done regularly. We probably go every few months for shaping/clean-up and just pluck at home in between.

I will see if I can find any pictures.

Personally, and I'll probably feel the backlash for saying this, I feel that in all but the most extreme cases it doesn't make nearly as much of a difference as people would like to think it does. Sure a unibrow needs some attention, as does very bushy eyebrows. And people who tended to overtweeze weren't doing themselves any favors. But beyond that? I don't see it. Of course I don't need to defend my decision to do it (since I don't). Perhaps therein lies the difference :confused3

ETA: case in point: at my daughter's dancing school, her teammate at age 11 has them done and her mother has specifically told me how much 'better' she looks. Nope. She doesn't. She doesn't look any different than before.

I know I don't look much different when I have mine done, so I don't bother anymore. Tweezing, waxing etc. makes my eyes and nose run - I am very sensitive. I do not have thick or dark eyebrows, and I find that if I am dressing nicely to go out and I'm wearing make-up, I can use an eyebrow pencil to enhance the shape of my eyebrows and make the few stray hairs not so noticeable.

Some people will look very different if their eyebrows are thick and messy, but that's not me.

BTW if you use Retin-A, lay off for three days before waxing. And don't wax if you're on antibiotics, or until a week after you've stopped taking them.

Some people I don't think it makes a big difference either, especially if they have light hair. I have pretty dark hair and rather thick eyebrows, so I think for me it does make a difference. I have no idea if other people see it though. But doing it makes me feel better so that's good enough for me :thumbsup2.

That's the kind of admission that I love:thumbsup2

I do a lot of things that make "me" feel better too and that's enough. No need to try and convince myself that other people care, or even notice. Chances are pretty good that they don't lol

I agree with you (and I'm the one who posted that DD and I have been doing our eyebrows since elem. school). In both of our cases it makes a huge difference. (Frida Kahlo had thin eyebrows by comparison ;) )

However, I really only notice other peoples eyebrows if they're way overtweezed and super thin. It's usually very unflattering and it's the first thing I see when I look at their face. Other than that, most people could wax/thread/pluck or not.

I have many friends who have never plucked one hair. They look perfectly fine and it honestly wouldn't really make a difference if they decided to start.

A lot of Ulta's also have Benefit Brow Bars.

It's where I get mine done.

You should be able to ask them to show you how to keep them up in between waxing. I usually pluck, until they get super out of control because I get lazy - then I go in and get them waxed.

I notice a difference in my face after I have them done. But I'm fairly certain I'm the only person who notices - my husband doesn't. But it's enough to make me feel more put together.

My daughter tried the threading and she cried the whole time. The lady couldn't even finish. What a waste.

We go to the hair salon to get ours done.

If you find it super painful you can:

1) take a pain reliever an hour before you go

2) try a different time of the month. It really can make a huge difference.

I get my eyebrows threaded, it doesn't hurt that bad at all, much better then waxing was for me. When I did a wax my eyelids were puffy, red and I bled!!! I was puffy and red for 3 days after. NEVER again. Waxing feels similar to plucking only you get more hairs at once, it will last for me 4-8 weeks, I will have to pluck an occasional hair but not many. The wax that I had done filled in in about 2 weeks. I go to a threading salon, that's all they do there, I get my eyebrows and upper lip done for $20. Well worth it IMO.

Exactly. I'd flatter myself if I thought that concern for my eyebrows were at the top of people's priority lists :rotfl:.
