Can I add my vote? I agree with everyone else. The money needs to go to the family for which it was donated.
I doubt if you could pre-pay their utilities, and what happens if they leave that residence before they use up the pre-paid utilities? Would they be able to get a refund from the utility company?
I'd suggest a grocery store giftcard, or a pre-paid visa card so they could use the money for other expenses. With a pre-paid visa, they could pay toward their utilities.
Suggest to your friend that her company collect money for the other needy family.
(Oh, and good shopping! Way to budget.)

regnancy induced tears:: Hopefully this family is in a better position next year.
If not, just repeat the cycle!

I agree totally....and was honestly quite offended, when she asked me to do this. Of course, there are needy families everywhere but we are one family....we can't help everyone!
