Expensive hanbags-please explain

I take forever finding a purse I like. I have never owned a Coach bag. However, I do have a Maxx NY handbag that I bought 2 years ago (on QVC) that I just love! It is white but, since I love the style, I'm thinking of getting it in another color.

TC:cool1:

I think signature handbags (with the logo all over them like Coach, LV) are ghetto-hideous. I like classic bags.

When I see Coach purses at places like 6 flags, I assume they're fake. Maybe these were too.

I use my Longchamp at Disney. I will try to not put them on really dirty surfaces, but I figur I didn't spend so much money on them to NOT use them.

Why I buy them in the first place?
Because I like pretty purses and Longchamp in particular.
Beacuse I still can't afford real LV and Delvaux (I'm a chauvinist, so I love Delvaux! lol)
Because in my profession they (somewhat) expect us to wear expensive shoes and clothes and lg around expensive purses and laptop cases.

I have a question about Coach.
Someone once told me you can send them somewhere to be cleaned for free. Is this true? And where do you send them?

I certainly don't have a handbag obsession, I'm one of those people that carries the same purse, to every occassion for a long time.

But I do have a few coach purses (I also have a few Target bought purses).

I like the coach purses for two main reasons: they hold up very, very well and frankly, they just make me happy. I think they are cute, and I enjoy carrying around something I feel is of value.

I don't know about anywhere else - but the sales woman I deal with at the Coach store told me to bring mine in and they would clean them right there. Never knew that.

Call your local store and ask.

On the other hand, I could never spend money on one of the deluxe resorts at Disney, let alone concierge level. That, to me, is not worth it.
Everyone has their priorities :)

Last year I worked with a young woman who had over 300 handbags. Her parents had built-in a closet for them. :goodvibes She was SO passionate about design; she was trying to get into nursing school and I was always saying, "Don't do it!! You want to be a fashion designer, you need to go to design school, not nursing school." She swore she would pursue her dreams once she had a way to financially support them.

I wanted to be a fashion designer also and living so close to Manhattan, it would have been a perfect opportunity. But your friend is 100% correct in stating that she's got to be financially stable. There are a million fashion designers and very few stars - just like in sports. Once she's making the cash while nursing and she starts dabbling in her "hobby" she doesn't have to worry about a paycheck - she can enjoy her "hobby" and if she becomes successful at that, she'll have a choice on which profession to pick.
What a smart girl :thumbsup2

I love:love: bags. Just love them! I have 1 LV bag. I got it 5 years ago and it still looks brand new. You just can't wear it out. I also have a couple of Coach and D&B purses. I usually get them for my Birthday or Christmas. My husband and I don't smoke, we drink on here and there and don't have children. We don't eat fast food or buy Starbucks coffee. Don't eat out a whole bunch, I like to cook at home. Our home is paid for. We do spend money on things like travel and purses and shoes.

Different strokes and all.

I love my Coach, Cynthia Rowley and Micheal Kors. I find it's not the actual purse that is expensive, its the accessories. The wallets and wristlets and keyfobs OH MY! But you'de be surprised at the bargains that can be found at Lord & Taylor, Macys and Nordstroms. Like other posters have said, it's all relative.

It's all about what I like or don't like. Little to do with status. Some to do with status,,I'm human and I admit to a certain amount of logo envy but I'm just as happy with my discount store purchases as I am with my designer ones. And I DON'T buy fakes, if I want something with the Logo I'll save up and buy the real thing thank you very much.

I like single compartment zipper top purses,,,Coach has a couple of styles that are that configuration. If they come out with a pattern I like then I might splurge and buy one at the outlet (I've never paid full price for a purse, but I have paid full price for some smaller things like wristlets.)

I also buy Fossils (think Dillards and Macy's price range) because they have this type of purse...most of my wallets are Fossil because I like the trifold style they carry. I don't like most of the Coach wallets, they have weird configurations. So I don't buy wallets from Coach.

I also have a couple of WalMart purses and bags..because I like them or because they fit what I need at the time. I also tend to buy Walmart or Harry Moon if I'm buying something "trendy" (I admit it I have a black barrel purse with my initial on it LOL) All the Coach and Fossil I have for the most part are classic styles. If I'm going to go trendy I go cheap cause they will fade but a classic purse I'll spend a more on. I've also never worn out a Fossil or a Coach. They hold up really well.

I guess it's like people who buy Sketchers shoes or those pointy heeled MB's...so ugly I would never pay that much for ugly shoes..plus I'm really hard on shoes so I tend to buy middle of the line ones, good enough to be well made but not so expensive that I get mad when I scuff them in the first week.

Same with sunglasses...I break them or lose them in just months, so why pay a fortune for them...cheap and no big loss when they fall over the balcony.

It's all a matter of what you're comfortable with.

I abuse purses. :sad2: I throw my coach bag in my work truck, touch it with dirty hands and get grease on it, then clean it with baby wipes. I haven't killed one yet! :rotfl:

Ooooh, bookgirl, I LOVE Fossil bags. I got a hobo at the outlet last year, single compartment, brown leather, zipper close, holds everything for me, the DH and the dog. TWENTY bucks. I have shoe polished it a couple of times, the handle tends to lose the colour, but I LOVE it. I am not too pickey about wallets, but I like Fossil for those, too.

I love LV bags, I have since I was in high school, I got one for my graduation. That one lasted me about 8 years. Then I got one about 6 years ago, I carry it everyday, it goes everywhere with me and still looks great.

I am a SAHM so I carry it while wearing my Target T-shirts! I have bought cheaper purses but they don't last more than 4 months or so.

Like everyone else has said, to each their own, spend your money on what you want!:thumbsup2

Absolutely.

I'm so out of my league on this thread. :rotfl2:

Never had a logo purse and don't want one. Last one I got was on final clearance at Kohls and it suits me just fine. Now if someone wants to start talking watches...now, that's my cup of tea.

To each his/her own.

I KNOW...love me some Fossil. Dillards and Macy's have closeouts about twice a year so I always go then. Last year I got trifold wallets in leather for 10 bucks. I bought a black and brown for general use and I found two that matched purses I had. In fact I have a solid blue and the two leathers are the ones I tend to carry with my Coach purses. (I just can't get into the Coach wallets they tend to be big like checkbook style or they have the strangest configurations...like it folds in half but even unfolded a dollar bill won't fit in the pocket what kind of wallet won't hold money for petes sake.) I went to the outlet in Bossier LA and found some great stuff as well.

Vegas has a Fossil, Coach, Dolche and Gabbana, Dooney and Burke and Kate Spade ALL OUTLETS.....man who needs to gamble I can lose all my money at the mall and have something to show for it. :rotfl:

But then you wont get that "free" buffet...:rotfl: :rotfl:

Who needs to eat at pricey Buffets when you can walk around with a cool handbag in the line at McDonalds.:lmao:

Actually I'll be eating at In n Out Burger....god I wish we had those in Oklahoma.

OK...I'll admit it...I had a huge Loius Vuitton. I bought it when preggers with first DS. Well, when I bought it, I thought it was fake and I thought about the prestige of it all and bought for $50 in 1988. Well, I found out it was real...just...fell off the back of the truck.

19 years later (with minor repairs) it still held up. I did the math and repriced the same bag and found out it really was worth it. I just can't come up with $900 to replace it right now. You really have to like it and be committed to keep a bag that long.

There are more fakes out there now then ever. I must admit that I bought a fake Prada in Rome this past spring. But those are throw away bags...the good ones last and when I get back in the work force, I'll think about buying another real one. (of course after we pay for another trip to USO/IOA !!!!!!!!

I guess I don't see the draw to them. Could someone explain this to me. I was camping last week and I saw some girls walking around with them. Why? They had them sitting on the ground or on top of the dirty picnic tables. I can't imagine spending hundreds of dollars on a bag that I know will get dirty.

I don't have a problem with people having them, it's their prerogative, but I just don't get it. Enlighten me. :rotfl:

If someone has to explain, you wouldn't understand. ;)
