Expensive hanbags-please explain

Don't know what it is, but they are my weakness and shoes of course! I'm obsessed with COACH and Kate and often have lines of people at my garage sales on my first opening mornings because I have to get rid of some if I want new ones! hahaha!!

I toss them wherever I feel, because it is only a bag, but I often get yelled at by my husband who picks it right up! hahaha! I know they cost a lot, but I like them. The styles, the colors, they are so fun.

I'm not a bag snob though, I have many handmade bags from Etsy, bags from TARGET and other places. If it's cute and colorful I buy it.

What an odd comment, I recently took mine to garage sales, thrift stores and even in Mexico I carried a wristlet while I was touring the ruins. My daughter is 3 and I also let her carry a wristlet by COACH. No biggie. They are cute and if they match her outfit all the better. :)

I guess i'm just odd.

You're known for your garage sales?? :worship:

Do you live by me? I'd love to be one of the ones in line. ;)

Hon, I climbed Dzibilchaltun (Ruins in Progresso Mexico) and shopped all day in Cozamel with my small black Coach wristlet...then used it at the formal dinner that night with my black and pink skirt...LOL Gotta love versitility.

Yeah I want to hit your garage sales....how far of a drive from Oklahoma are you.....

I love my Coach purse. My Coach purse's original price was $365 but I paid $100 at an outlet store. I didn't buy it because it was "Coach." I bought it because I liked it. And the Coach purse isn't a flashy logo one, just a nicely made purse with a small Coach Logo on the buckle. I take the purse everywhere including Six Flags ;) but not Disney. I have a special Disney bag for Disney vacation's.

I agree that it is "to each his own" because I personally don't understand paying more then $100 a night for a hotel room but that is just me.

About the "fake" Coach purses:

I have a friend who knew someone who worked for Coach back in the day. They told me that Coach also makes specific lines for their outlet stores. So if you see it in an outlet, and never saw it on line or in the stores, that's what it is. I think those are what you see at 6 Flags.

When I went to a place called Point Pleasant/Jenkinsons Pier ( a boardwalk with games, rides, etc.) here in Jersey I noticed there was a lot of those "claw" games with Coach in them. So of course I had to play one. :rotfl: And I got a wristlet on the first one! :cool1: I looked at the outside tag and it looked like it came from an outlet. And it was NOT fake.

Now about Vegas - there is also a great Saks Off Fifth outlet at Warm Springs/Las Vegas Blvd that has TREEEEEmendous deals. I picked up a Michale Kors that was originally $1k for $75. Now that place is one you want to win a slot for!

Also- for great bags - not so expensive - Marshall Russo, they are in MGM?, Excalibor, Bally's and the airport in the C terminal. I got a great pug bag a few years back.

Do you think I need HA? (Handbags Annon.) ;)

:goodvibes It's nice to know that we all have the same addiction.

What's the deal with 6 Flags and what people carry there? I think there are people who go there who have a Coach or LV or whatever :confused3 I don't care for 6 Flags but I am pretty sure that they will let anyone in who buys a ticket and don't consider what bag they are carrying :confused3

My name is Lisa - and I'm a purse snob. My husband says my 2 favorite past times are "purse-sniffing" and "ring-sniffing", which basically means I look at and judge everyone's purses and wedding rings. I'd love to tell him that he's full of crap, but... not so much. LOL. :rolleyes1

I agree with the other posters that have mentioned that what everyone "values" is different. My best friend (who just turned her nose up at the new Coach and Dooney bags I bought at the outlet mall last weekend) goes to Mario Tricoci every 3 months to get her hair cut and highlighted. I know she easily drops $150+ every time. Now, I would NEVER spend that kind of money- no judgement to those who do, but that's not what I "value." I get my hair cut in my mom's friend's basement for $10 every 3 months. I figure all the money I am saving in Mario haircuts goes to luxury handbags, no? It's not better, not worse, just different.

Handbags are my one vice (ok, maybe shoes, too...) I will wear a $250 Coach bag with $200 Coach shoes with my $14.99 cotton tshirt and Lane Bryant jeans. I can't see spending lots of cash on a shirt I will inevitably spill food on, or jeans that will probaby not fit me next year as I will either have gained or lost weight, but purses and shoes are forever! They always fit me, I don't have to go to the pudgy girls section to buy them, and yes - I like the attention. There, I said it. I like having luxury items that people coo over. I'm a snob and I am ok with that. LOL :snooty: Thank god the spouse is too, he funds my habit! ;)

I am so WITH you on this. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I My everyday bag is an LL Bean Healthy Bag. I have a tan one and a blue one. I got the blue one on sale for $29 and free shipping.

I have the same bag in tan except I went to the store to get it. It's much better for my back.

I just love the 'styles' of my Doonies. I really dont consider them all that expensive but I know alot of people wouldnt spend the $$.

Another poster said she thought the Coach bags they SOLD there might be fake.

Sorry for not clarifying. :)

None of my Coach bags are the type with the logo all over it. They are just nice looking leather bags that last a really long time.

Earlier this spring, I found a Coach bag hidden in the back of the closet. It was the first one I ever bought (cue the wistful sigh ;) ), back in 1993. The thing still looks fantastic and the leather's so soft you want to pet it.

Hee hee - the spouse makes fun of me all the time when I shop for accessories. He says when we go to the outlet malls or wherever, that I have to "pet" all the handbags and shoes... LOL. :lmao:

Over the past couple of weeks I have been entering the SOAPnet contest-20 designer handbags over 20 days.
I got an email today saying I won one of the bags. The email had a affidavit attached which I had to sign and fax in. I hope this for real.

Anyway, the purse it said I won was a Jamin Puech's white Georgia Bag.

I have no idea what kind of bag this is. Has anyone heard of Jamin Puech purses? I wonder how much it costs??

Thanks for any info.

Here's Reese Witherspoon carrying one:

Clarifying: she's carrying a Jamin Puech bag...I don't know if it's the same style you won.

I have several expensive bags and I love them because:
1) I have to be very dressed up every day for work and must attend many business functions at high end restaurants and hotels and they are always appropriate, look totally professional and complement my outfit
2) I am ridiculously hard on purses and kept having to replace cheaper ones every 3-6 months, costing me more money, while now my bags are lasting years and years and still look fabulous
4) Both DH and I have worked extremely hard over 20 years to get where we are and since we can easily afford them, who am I hurting by buying them?
5) But, lastly and most importantly, they are beautiful to me and so they make me feel special every day

Meanwhile, I only go to Disney every other year - my choice, but I would never criticize those who choose to spend their hard-earned money on going there once every year or even several times a year - which certainly adds up to a LOT more money over the long haul than my handbags.

YES! That is the picture they showed when I entered the contest. Looks like it is about $985. I dont know if I need at $985 purse. Maybe I should sell it on Ebay??

Thanks for all the help.

I love shoes & bags.

My bag would never be on the ground especially my LVs.
I am also a firm believer that if you buy quality & classic pieces they last a long time.

I think to assume a bag is "fake" because it is at a theme park is silly and price is all relative, my coach bags are for my sloppy days.
