Expedition Everest

The fact that all these folks who aren't DVC or AP are getting rides off this board during our preview time, even though they don't really qualify, actually kinda burns me. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade -- we don't have a clue yet when we'll be at AK and we'll be with a big group so we couldn't take others anyway. But all you extras will add to my wait time ;) (Please read the sarcasm here)!!!

For regular folks, the official opening is Spring '06. If you definitely wanted to ride EE, you should have planned your trip for later in the year. Or, be like the rest of the folks on these boards and get creative with your begging!!!

I actually kind of agree with you. You guys deserve these types of perks. I wish there was a Disney Visa card holder preview :). I doubt there will be too many DVC owners that will actually let anyone tag along. The only thing that bugs me is that I know when I go the ride will be ready, but we can't ride it just because Disney isn't ready to open it yet. When I play Rollercoaster Tycoon, I open my coasters as soon as I build the exit/entrances! :teeth:

do any of you think there will be rides for those other than dvc? I mean just how many DVC people are there going to be there in Jan? Wouldn't they want some of us "peons" to have a try????

Personally it will eat me up to see people be riding and be told my family can't go, I mean I don't mind DVC people getting the free lanyards etc, but isn't this type of practice (excluding those less financially fortunate) something Walt would have frowned upon?

I guess if they continue with this type of thing, the next step will be the rumored fast passes done by the type of resort you stay at (ie deluxes get more) Sorry if I sound grumpy, but this type of practice does bother me a bit. However to all of you DVC people PLEASE enjoy the priveledge and tell us how cool this ride is!!!

I wouldn't say non DVC members are peons. I mean, DVC members and AP holders are people that spend more money for their membership, and therefore should be entitled to perks like this. I'm not a DVC member, but I certainly understand the perks that they receive. They earn them. They pay a lot of money for their membership.

I don't think Walt would have had a problem with this. That's like saying, Walt would have had a problem with someone who couldn't afford an admission ticket to Disney World being turned away.

It's the American way - You pay more, you get more.

Thank you! I just don't understand why some will begrudge the FEW perks we DVC members get - if you want our perks pay up like we did.

Instead of looking at what others have that you don't have, look at what you have that others don't have.

I see the DVC/AP previews as a way of thanking us for our loyalty to Disney.

Oh My...I certainly didn't mean to "take advantage" or try to "beg" for something I wasn't entitled to. I am an AP holder but I'm the only one in my party who is, so it doesn't help my girls, and I don't really want to ride. I agree that those who pay for things like DVC and AP should enjoy the perks, it just seemed that Disney was encouraging folks to bring others with them by allowing the extra guests. I would have been happy to bring others with me if I could have ..hope no one is offended. I don't think that was anyones intent...it certainly wasn't mine.

I also didn't mean to upset anyone. Believe me, I know what a really big favor this will be from our "host family". And if it would become inconvienient for them then it would not happen. DVC is very expensive and I think that owners are entitled to extra perks. If our ride works out then we will be greatful for the opportunity and thankful for our family sharing with us!

From Email today:

Passholders are going to be let in as well!

Dear Christopher,

As one of our most valued Passholders, you're invited to a special preview of our thrilling new Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain™ attraction happening January 26 through 29...before the grand opening—and you'll also receive a free gift!

I guess since it says nothing about guests, we can't bring our companions unless they have an AP. That stinks.

The comments that have been made, are directed towards the poster that seemed annoyed that DVC members were getting this perk simply because we are more fortunate and are able to buy into DVC. There was also a comment about "peons" etc - You can go back to read for the exact wording. It had a general "poor me" quality about it - IMO.

If DH and I were there we'd be hunting down people to share the experience with us. Unfortunately we miss this event by 5 little days - lol

Geez! I didn't mean to start a debate! As I said in my e-mail -- please read the sarcasm into what I said!!!! I didn't mean any of you asking to be a DVC guest were really doing anything wrong -- I was more trying to make a point to the OP! I hope everyone finds a way to ride it (just don't break it before I get on!!!). You are a tiny few compared to the mass of people who will probably be riding that weekend. I just hate it when people begrudge the few perks I do get from the fortune I've shelled out for DVC (and AP, too). I guess I'd be happy with DVC even if I didn't get anything, but it's nice to know Disney appreciates us sometimes.

And don't hesitate to stand outside the ride and ask people in small groups if they can take you, too! We went to NYC for Pocahontas in the Park with no tickets and weren't willing to pay scalpers $100 each for tickets they got FOR FREE. We had a plan to just wait as close to the front of the line as we could and ask people if they had extras, promising that we only wanted two and we weren't scalpers, just wanted to see the movies. Only took us 5 minutes to get two tickets! It was a great start to a fantastic day (that really thought was going to be a disaster) and kinda reaffirmed my faith in mankind a little!

I hope to see you all on EE!

WOW ~~ I had NO idea I was starting this kind of thing by asking to be someone's guest!
kinda reaffirmed my faith in mankind a little!
I get that from a lot of folks on this board, ESPECIALLY my host family. I'm so sorry you feel as though we who "begged" for this special treatment are begrudging your perks!!!! That CERTAINLY was NOT my intention, I was only trying to do something nice for my DH. We LOVE Disney and spend a lot of money going to Disney, however, with 2 sons in college, and a 6 year old, we cannot afford to be DVC owners at this time, I certainly don't think that makes me a "peon"!!! If I or anyone else here offended you by "asking" to be someones guest, your comment that we are "peon's" has offended me. I say, let's just drop it, if you or anyone else who is offended and don't want to be a "host" family then please don't offer. Again, I'm so sorry that this nice, wonderful thing has turned into this.

I am SO THANKFUL to my host family. (I've decided NOT to post who they are, I wouldn't want them to be ostrasized for so graciously offering to be our host.) I think you are a truely wonderful person, and I appreciate that you are willing to share with my DH. I also want to add that I've gotten 5 offers for host families, which I'm glad to say -- there is still that kind of "faith in mankind" in some people. To all of you who offered, Thanks!!!! I appreciate your kindness!!!

Good Luck to any of you who are wanting to be guest, I hope a wonderful family "adopts" you!!!

Also, I do not want this post to start anymore controversy over this issue. I'd just rather leave it alone, and hope no one else is "offended".

Wendypooh -- you should really have read all the comments here more carefully!!! I think you shot off your nasty reply before you realized that I was being sarcastic with my original post -- trying to make a point to the OP who called themself of peon and didn't like that AP / DVC members get a perk!!!

I would never use the term peon -- and DID NOT USE THE TERM IN MY ORIGINAL MESSAGE -- because everyone deserves to have a magical Disney vacation. I have plenty of friends and family who are in the situation of not being able to afford Disney trips as frequently as us (and we frequently take them along to stay at DVC with us and share in the perks and discounts Disney affords us).

married@wdw ~~ Actually, I did go back and read the post, I apologize to you. You didn't say that, and I'm sorry. I should've read them more carefully. I just never intended this to get so out of hand. I only wanted to do something nice for DH. I hope everyone who want's a host family gets one. Again, I apologize if my comments offended anyone. No one here is trying to "begrudge" anyone anything, I'm certainly not.

Have a lovely wonderful New Year!!!

Well, since Wendypooh has already found a "Host Family"... I still have 2 spots left with me on January 29. If anyone would like to join us let me know.

Good Deeds I sent you a PM about the 27th ;)

I am a DVC owner and and PAP holder.....so does that mean I can go twice? Once as DVC and once as PAP??????? As a DVC owner I can also take up to three guests!

Hey Wendy1953 - If you are going on the 28th, please feel free to adopt me (and DS10!)!!!

I'm starting to feel like the ugly dawg at the pound! :paw:

We will be at WDW on 1/26 thru 1/28 am and would love to be "adopted" by someone. 1/26 is my birthday...anyone want to give me a birthday present???? :rotfl2: PS, what is the height requirement? Anyone know?

Ok. I can go because of my AP pass, but my Mom can't. Anyone willing to adopt her on the morning of the 28th?

As far as I understand, you can ride as many times as you like as either a DVC or an AP holder. You will only get the special gift (lanyard and pin) once but there is no limit to the number of rides you can take.
