Expedition Everest

You will probably love it. We have a wooden roller coaster near where I live (at Carowinds) and on one track the car goes forward and the other goes backwards. We always ride the backwards one!

I live an hour from Charlotte and I've never been to Carowinds. My DH wanted me to go this summer but I just didn't have time.

I can't remember where I heard this, but I remember it being mentioned that EE is supposed to be more of a 'family' coaster as opposed to a 'scare-you-out-of-your-pants' thrill coaster. I think it was compared as being closer to BTMRR than R'nRCoaster. However, I have no idea if that's true.

Either way, it sounds like a ton of fun. The theming sounds fantastic. And going backwards on a coaster is incredible! It's such a different sensation from going forward it kind of throws you for a loop. Can't wait!

Thank you Leota and ashjohnson80, I do love my boys.

I just returned and checked it out. I think it will be a great signature ride for Disney and a big boost for AK, it's a park that really needs more attractions. I'm excited and can't wait till it opens!

"I'm kind of nervous about the going backwards thing. I've never been on a roller coaster that goes backwards"

I have, and it is a BLAST! The Rebel Yell wooden out and back coaster at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia is a racing coaster. On one side the cars face forward like any conventional coaster, but the other side the cars face backward. It is SO much fun. I like it backwards better than forwards, it is such an awesome feeling! If you can do coasters in the dark, you should have no problem doing them backwards.

A show I saw on DL Paris said BTMRR goes forwards & backwards there.... I don't love backwards loops (ie. Boomerang) but I'll try it at least once!

Actually, that's their Indiana Jones Ride (The Temple du Peril, I believe). Looks similar to BTM though. :)

As to stats on Everest, the following was posted at another Disney site - no one is sure how accurate it is, but it sounds promising :

Ride time: approximately 3 minutes, 50 seconds
Ride capacity: 2,000 guests per hour
Passengers per train: 34 in rows of 2
Height Requirement: target range 44" to 48"

wow - long ride.
how long is BTMR?

It took me a while to suck up the courage to go on RNRC...I had to keep telling myself "it's only 60 seconds long...it's only 60 seconds long"

now...I actually REALLY like it...not a fan of loops, but it being in the dark works for me...can't see them coming!

Expedition Everest is a roller coaster...

Expedition EVEREST: The Legend of the Forbidden Mountain will be the newest, tallest and fastest attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom, as announced at the theme park's fifth-anniversary press event on April 22.
Located in Asia, the new high-speed train adventure will explore the legend of the yeti (known to some as the abominable snowman), an enormous creature that's said to live in the Himalayan Mountains and guard the route to Mount Everest.

The adventure begins when guests board an old mountain railway destined for the foot of the towering Mount Everest. The train rolls through thick bamboo forests, past thundering waterfalls, along a shimmering glacier field and climbs higher and higher through the snow-capped peaks.

Suddenly, the track ends in a gnarled mass of twisted metal. The thrills intensify as the train races both forward and backward through mountain caverns and icy canyons, careening down the mountain slopes as guests head for an inevitable face-to-face showdown with the giant yeti.

At nearly 200 feet in height, Expedition EVEREST will be the tallest mountain in Florida.
Expedition EVEREST will feature Disney's FASTPASS Service, and it's scheduled to open in 2006.

I haven't been over to that area of the park for some time now, but as a rough guess, the buildings are most likely what all the other themed areas have: restrooms, gift shop and probably a counter service restaurant

WOW!!!! I can't wait...I'm excited...I"M SCARED !!!!

I just returned from WDW and had a chance to see the Expedition Everest construction site.It is going to be HUGE!There were several buildings being built besides the actual mountain. In fact,it looked like an entire "village" was springing up.Does anyone know what all of these buildings will be?This attraction should really give Animal Kingdom a large boost.I think it may become one of the two or three signature attractions in all of WDW.Does anyone else think it will be that popular? It looks REALLY impressive. :D

When does this open, where can I get info on it?

Thanks

Michele
