Sorry you're having trouble...we definitely all have those days...sometimes weeks! The best advice I can give you came from my trainer when I was experiencing the same thing...take a break if you need it. It's ok once in a while to say "you know what, I just don't have it today...at all"...especially if you've really been hitting it hard lately. I look at it as my body's way of telling me "this is your warning...take a break now or I'll MAKE you take one!" (injury!) Now, there's a fine line between that and giving up too easily too often...sometimes you do need to just suck it up and get out there (those runs really build mental toughness and character)...but only you know yourself good enough to make that call. The times I've decided that an unplanned rest day was a good idea, my body thanked me for it and I got back on schedule felling stronger. I hope you start feeling better about it soon!
This is exactly the post I needed to read! My last 2 runs went really well. On Monday, I ran the 5K in 43:18, which is an improvement, then yesterday, I felt completely drained. All I wanted to do was take a nap and watch tv. I skipped those but didn't go on my run, either, and I felt HORRIBLE about it. Major guilt all night. But, this morning, my teammate (DH) and I agreed to make up for it with a long run this evening, and now I'm looking forward to it.
I thought I was messing myself up, but reading your post reassured me that it's vital to listen to your body and take breaks when needed. Thanks for boosting up my morale, now I'm pumped for this evening!![]()
What a great outfit. I still don't understand the tutu's everyone wheres when running - but to each their own!![]()

Checked the mail and peeking through all the junk was my ME envelope!!!!! I get so excited when that comes in the mail...it's better than Christmas!!!
KigerKat, I wouldn't worry about your pace on the treadmill using the Galloway method. When I was training for my first 5k (on the treadmill) my pace was just above a 15mm. When I ran my first 5k in Feb. I shocked myself by running a 13mm. In my second race last week-end, I improved my pace and felt like I could have kept running at the finish. I love running on the treadmill, and can't see giving it up. I just don't worry about the pace anymore. I would say based on my experience you will run faster off the treadmill.![]()
That's just what I needed to hear!! I don't really like running on the treadmill and wish my allergies didn't keep me chained to one. I find that I'm constantly watching the clock when I'm on it.
And I know the energy of the EEC will give us all a huge boost to do our best! Now, if only we could all work together to figure out the clues....![]()
I'm running w/ my 60 yo dad. We run together each time we go. Thankfully, we are pretty much at the same pace (SLOW!) but we do argue about when to take walk breaks, when to keep going, etc.Quick question for everyone running with a teammate.
Are you all training with your partner to try and get into a groove before the race, and if so, are you finding it difficult to establish a pace?
I've ran about 3 times with my teammate (my DH) and each time I have a really hard time keeping my normal pace, which is also a problem for him. He's about 7 inches taller than me, and he runs about an 8 minute mile. (I'm at 14) When I went running with him last Friday, I found myself going way too fast to try and keep up with him, then going too slow to try and overcompensate. I'm wondering if I should just scratch running together until the race to give myself a month to try and speed up on my own, or if I should keep trying this awkward running system to prepare myself.
Last year, at the race, my pace was insanely good, so this wasn't as big of an issue, so this is a new problem for us. Maybe the race will give me such an adrenaline boost all this will be moot.![]()
