CUTE OUTFITS!!!!!!!!!!!

I will definitely know you two when I see you :thumbsup2

What a great outfit. I still don't understand the tutu's everyone wheres when running - but to each their own! :dance3:

I think I have a team name for myself. Coming up with a shirt design. If my dad can help, I will post it here!

We are getting close!

Sorry you're having trouble...we definitely all have those days...sometimes weeks! The best advice I can give you came from my trainer when I was experiencing the same thing...take a break if you need it. It's ok once in a while to say "you know what, I just don't have it today...at all"...especially if you've really been hitting it hard lately. I look at it as my body's way of telling me "this is your warning...take a break now or I'll MAKE you take one!" (injury!) Now, there's a fine line between that and giving up too easily too often...sometimes you do need to just suck it up and get out there (those runs really build mental toughness and character)...but only you know yourself good enough to make that call. The times I've decided that an unplanned rest day was a good idea, my body thanked me for it and I got back on schedule felling stronger. I hope you start feeling better about it soon!

:worship:This is exactly the post I needed to read! My last 2 runs went really well. On Monday, I ran the 5K in 43:18, which is an improvement, then yesterday, I felt completely drained. All I wanted to do was take a nap and watch tv. I skipped those but didn't go on my run, either, and I felt HORRIBLE about it. Major guilt all night. But, this morning, my teammate (DH) and I agreed to make up for it with a long run this evening, and now I'm looking forward to it.
I thought I was messing myself up, but reading your post reassured me that it's vital to listen to your body and take breaks when needed. Thanks for boosting up my morale, now I'm pumped for this evening!:thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! I'm getting really excited for this trip and my teammate is soooooo anxious and excited for her first event ever!

I too had a not so great week. Skipped one run but today it's forcast for 19C which is the warmest we've had yet so I'm determined to get out and do the full 5K and test out my lungs again in warmer weather. I'm going to do the Galloway so my lungs aren't pushed too much at one time. This of course means I will not be running with DD b/c she doesn't like stopping every minute and finds that breaks make it harder for her to keep going. sucks that we have taken on different running styles :( We will have to meet half way for the race.

Keep it up everyone!!! Your all doing great b/c something is better than nothing :thumbsup2 and we are getting SO close!!!!

Cripey, what a cute outfit!!! The two of you will make such special memories on this trip - she is quite blessed to have you do this with her.

So glad to hear everyone's honest reports about training. I racked up a lot of miles walking this past weekend [18!] and decided to take Monday off. Then could not get going on Tuesday and was in a big blue funk all day. I did get up on Wednesday and ran/walked a little over a mile and half and felt that funk fading away. This morning, I ran/walked over three miles and managed a 16 mm! Maybe taking a break was helping me after all!

Princess V, I keep comparing your weather to ours - y'all are only a few degrees warmer than we are, ugh! I am so not ready for this hot weather already.

Wakica, my partner and I will have the same problem. She's in CA and is in much better shape than I am. I'm pretty sure she could run the race twice before I run it once. As long as we're together for the clues, we can separate a little, right?

Actually, though, with all of the people and the excitement of the race, you'll be more pumped up and she'll probably be happy to stay close to you.

Checked the mail and peeking through all the junk was my ME envelope!!!!! I get so excited when that comes in the mail...it's better than Christmas!!!

After a full week on Jeff Galloway's program, I have decided that I do like it better. The downside is that my time has gotten worse per mile, but the upside is that I'm not as worn out/breathless at the end of a workout.

I'm thinking because I'm on a treadmill that it's difficult to really get an accurate time, since my pace is determined by the treadmill. Who knows if my pace would remain constant like it is on a treadmill. I keep meaning to try out the indoor track at a local park, but I just hate having to drive somewhere.

On a good note, I have found that my ankle doesn't hurt as much when I put more bounce in my step. I also am positive that my ankle problem is because it is weaker than the other. After working out yesterday, there was a bulge in my left ankle that wasn't in my right. I started to freak out because I don't recall seeing it there before, but it didn't hurt at all, and the bulge slowly went down. DH swears it is a muscle that was just flexed from working out, and after I thought about it, it made sense. I pop my left ankle all the time by flexing my left foot. I would think after years and years of doing this, I would probably build a pretty big ankle muscle.

Cripey - That is a super cute outfit! I can't wait to see if I can spot you! I got something in the mail recently, too, but it was a "here's what your trip will be like" brochure. We're also going in August for FD, so we got that one on the same day. It was still fun and exciting to get Disney mail!!

KigerKat, I wouldn't worry about your pace on the treadmill using the Galloway method. When I was training for my first 5k (on the treadmill) my pace was just above a 15mm. When I ran my first 5k in Feb. I shocked myself by running a 13mm. In my second race last week-end, I improved my pace and felt like I could have kept running at the finish. I love running on the treadmill, and can't see giving it up. I just don't worry about the pace anymore. I would say based on my experience you will run faster off the treadmill.:thumbsup2

That's just what I needed to hear!! I don't really like running on the treadmill and wish my allergies didn't keep me chained to one. I find that I'm constantly watching the clock when I'm on it.

And I know the energy of the EEC will give us all a huge boost to do our best! Now, if only we could all work together to figure out the clues....

So glad to hear your ankle is getting better Kigerkat :)

i finally logged my March hours on my pre trip report and it was not nearly as much running as i would have like to do :( I did MUCH better in January - that was my best month yet and i hope to get back to where i was that month. i need to up it still for this month.

I also run much faster off the treadmill than I do on it - all my shorter runs are on the treadmill, and I always run faster during races and during my longer runs off the treadmill. I actually find that I can get myself in trouble by starting off too fast when I'm running outside, and then I wear out too fast. Oops. :upsidedow

The clues are the part that scare me the most. 'Cause I have no clue! :lmao:

Quick question for everyone running with a teammate.

Are you all training with your partner to try and get into a groove before the race, and if so, are you finding it difficult to establish a pace?

I've ran about 3 times with my teammate (my DH) and each time I have a really hard time keeping my normal pace, which is also a problem for him. He's about 7 inches taller than me, and he runs about an 8 minute mile. (I'm at 14:rotfl:) When I went running with him last Friday, I found myself going way too fast to try and keep up with him, then going too slow to try and overcompensate. I'm wondering if I should just scratch running together until the race to give myself a month to try and speed up on my own, or if I should keep trying this awkward running system to prepare myself.:confused3

Last year, at the race, my pace was insanely good, so this wasn't as big of an issue, so this is a new problem for us. Maybe the race will give me such an adrenaline boost all this will be moot.:rotfl:

I'm running w/ my 60 yo dad. We run together each time we go. Thankfully, we are pretty much at the same pace (SLOW!) but we do argue about when to take walk breaks, when to keep going, etc.

Honestly, I'd keep running as a team to prep yourself for the race itself. But I'm certainly no expert; hopefully someone more official can give you advice! ;)

My BF and I had to prepare for this situation for last year's W&D half. Like your DH, he's much faster than me and doesn't take walk breaks, so we rarely run together, but had planned on trying to do at least one race a year as just a fun run together...and we chose W&D for that. We had about a month in between a prior race and this one to sort of get used to running together. We decided to run once a week (our long runs) together up until the race and we took the "your only as strong as your weakest link" approach...not to say the slower of the two is "weak", but you know what I mean! The slower of the two is going to have to set the pace and the run/walk plan, and the BF was very accomodating and understanding of that thank goodness. At times if he thought I was struggling, he would run just a step or two behind me so that I wouldn't automatically try to run a little faster to keep up. We planned to take my normal walk break at each mile, and since we were running together we also planned to stop for as many character pics as we could. Fortunately for this race coming up, you have a few things going for you...the shorter distance is one...at least you won't have to be making adjustments for 13 miles!...and then the obstacles will force a break and a slow down in the running for both of you. I'd say keep on running together until the race and try to get some system down...the less you have to worry about that on race day, the more fun you'll have during the race!

I just paid the balance on my room today - but this post reminded me - did I tell my travel agent to book ME for me?? Thanks for the reminder! :thumbsup2
