Expedition Everest Challenge May 5 @ 9:30 2012

I came up with the word "belay" but figured that was wrong because I didn't think that was even a word...went over to the EE FB page and they were coming up with the same thing...and someone there looked it up and "belay" is evidently a climbing term so I think it's right! Fits with the theme of getting up the mountain like the email discussed. I hope they don't get any harder than that though!

Depending on whether you are 'on-belay' or 'down belay', yeah. Mostly means coming down a rock face with a steep slope.

I haven't been getting any emails, but I am an understudy for a friend. But my chances are significantly improved, as he broke his fibula (or tibia?) last weekend. His wife and I did the Halloween 5K through AK last year and had a hoot.

Yes, that's what I got too and knew immediately it had to be right b/c it's a climbing term.

Once I looked again - I forced myself to relax. I think the anxiety and feeling like I'm being "tested" gets to me but once I forced myself to relax i had it within 2 minutes :)

YAY!!!!! Glad I did it and didn't need someone to explain it to me. Makes me feel better about this portion. I wonder how quickly DD will get it later today.

I came up with belay too, but didn't think it was a word. Huh. Interesting. If that's correct, then there's hope for me yet!! ;)

Well, I've lost all hope...not only did I not get it, I didn't even know what it meant when I cheated and looked on this thread. Oh dear...this will be interesting.

AND, right now I'm in a quiet, air-conditioned building...what'll happen when I'm running around, in the FL heat, with bunches of people around me???

I'm hoping when DD looks at it later today she'll get it instantly b/c I'm depending on her brain power ;) LOL
Glad to see I'm not the only one who will be depending on the brain power of their kids to figure out the clues. :rotfl2: My DS figured it out rather quickly, but I said "that can't be right, it's not a word" :rolleyes1 Guess I'll just have to trust his logic from now on.

Me to!!! :scared1::rotfl2:

Um, I'm completely perplexed by the clue it contains. This does not bode well, lol!

Anyone?

Well, I was stumped, but fortunately the other 1/2 of the KansasKeteers (my wife) got it quickly! And she said "seems too easy"! I'm glad she's going with me!

:scared1::guilty: I'm dooooooooooomed! I couldn't even start to guess how to solve the clue and I still don't know how to instinctively know what the hint in the clue is. And I'm running solo, so I won't even be able to depend on someone whose brain works a different way.

And to think, I was initially afraid of the obstacles! :lmao:

I got BELAY too but didn't think it was a word. I came here looking to see what everyone was saying about it. :)

Well, crap! I was reading WAY too much into the clue! I was thinking, "Well, the "a" in the first sentence isn't capitalized, and it should be, so maybe that has something to do with it!"

DH couldn't figure it out, either. Yeah, we're definitely going to need some help!

Well I'm happy to report that DD did get the answere INSTANTLY!!!! I was shocked at how fast she got it! and VERY happy too :thumbsup2 I'm glad to have her brain power on my team. Now to just get her out running more often. LOL

:rotfl: I'm, glad it wasn't just me! I meant to show the clue to my DS last night, but he was swamped with homework and got to bed late as it was, so I'll see what he makes of it tonight.

I am right there with ya! I think the solo's should team up!
Also - I may start looking up mountain climbing words, along with Yeti and Himalayas!!

Well, as far as the clue goes, my teammate (DH) got it instantly. I think it would've taken me a little longer to figure it out.:confused3

My mother, who's running it solo, called me early this morning, and the first thing she said was, "Is that first block red??? I know my eyes are bad, but are they THAT bad?" :rotfl2:

Apparently, she'd gotten the clue eventually, but she didn't think BELAY was a term. She thought her eyes were mistaken and it was RELAY. She wouldn't hang up the phone until we talked to my father and figured out what the word means. :rotfl: Last year, the words were recognizable, so it got me a tad bit flustered that I didn't know this one. Hopefully, this is one of the harder clues we'll be facing.

I was doing the same thing, reading too much into the clue....something about the number above the color corresponding with that letter in the alphabet, or the number of letters in the words of the colors or some sort of wild configuration. Glad to know that the answer was much simpler than I was anticipating - too bad I couldn't get it without peaking on this thread! And my team member couldn't get it either...I think we'll be lurking behind all of these genius 12 year olds.

This must be the week of the bad runs....yesterday morning, it was raining so I waited until after work to try my second attempt at the 1:00/1:00 run/walk intervals. It was terrible! Although the weather was cool and clear, I couldn't breathe very well. And my tummy wasn't cooperating either. It seemed that my lungs and stomach were on strike - guess they like couch potato me much better.

I only made it to 1.69 miles before I had to stop. My pace was slower than two days ago but, on a brighter note, was still better than when I'm doing the C2K. It was pretty depressing - we have a walking trail super close to my house and I was behind a couple leisurely walking their dogs. I couldn't even pass them! :sad2:

Oh, the ups and downs of the running life....

Kigerkat, how is your ankle doing? By the way, I'm in Memphis and so many people have had bouts with allergies due to our high pollen count. Then I heard on the radio that Atlanta's pollen count was triple that of ours....no wonder you can't breathe!

Well, i guess in a worst case scenario we can always just attempt to put ANYTHING down and go ask if we are right and when they say no we may be able to get another hint from them :)

debieandroo - sorry for the bad running days :( Apparently EVERY runner has bad days so it might help to keep that in mind :) Your doing GREAT!!! on bad days I like the sayiing "No matter how slow you go - you are still lapping everyone on the couch"
So even if I don't do so hot some days I'm still WAY ahead of where I was when i was on the couch :thumbsup2

 Thanks so much, Wakica. I needed that. And I do love those pictures you posted upthread - the one you quoted was my favorite -- I tried to post it but it was pretty huge.

How are your erratic airways?

I'm most definitely feeling the allergy effects from running outside on Wednesday! For those of you not from the south, the pollen count gets CRAZY this time of year!! They calculate the pollen count by grains of pollen per cubic meter of air. The pollen count in the Atlanta area on Tuesday was over 9000. Compare that to what is considered "very high"(500), and you have a city full of people trapped indoors for a month. Why didn't I just stay inside?

As for my ankle we went back to the shoe store where I purchased my shoes today and had the owner watch me run. My ankle hasn't been bothering me since Wednesday so I was able to run about three times for him and he told me my problem was more posture than how my foot was hitting the ground. I'm going to run again this evening, but I'm switching to the Jeff Galloway method so I'm not spending so much time running.

Good news: I've been able to get off one of my blood pressure medications, but the bad news is when I asked my doctor when I would be feeling the increased energy effects of running, and he said it might take a little while. I need that increased energy now!

Well, I'm back to running inside again b/c we got the dreaded snow back. I really was spoiled to even BE outside running in March so i guess i can't complain too much but it was a VERY good learning experience for me!! I'm now running WITH a 1 incline ALWAYS so I am more prepared and I've started on the Galloway run/walk/run plan to see if my lungs can handle that way better. Once it warms up again I'll be back outside. I still havn't gotten into the doctor. I need a full physical so I had to book when they are doing physicals. I'll definitely fill you all in on what she tells me. THanks for asking

Good news on the stopping of meds :thumbsup2 and for energy - I have been running since November and while I don't feel that much more energy i do find I'm able to stay up later and get up more easily so maybe it is helping a bit. Sure with it would give you a boost like coffee though b/c I can't have coffee or tea and don't drink pop b/c of the caffeine and some days i SURE WISH i did!!!

I'm doing Jeff Galloway too now :) We'll have to compare notes. I didn't mind it too much but I find the starting and stopping a bit on the annoying side and I'm not sure how i'll do running this way with my daughter b/c she doesn't care to start and stop all the time - she'd rather just get it done and go go go. Kids - must be nice!
